Open topic for Fujifilm Sports shots

As it seems that X-T2 is finally making breakthrough for sports photographers out there, I think it's time to make an open thread for sports shots also. So we don't need to make new topic any time someone shoots sports with Fuji :)

I start with some shots from this week.

Both shot with X-T2 and 50-140/2,8 and are JPEGs from camera, slightly edited in LR. I'm more and more moving to only jpegs for my work on Fuji, as the results from straight out of the camera files are just so good and I can save a lot of time using only JPEGs!

I seldom do action shots. Here's one taken yesterday with the XPro2 with the 27mm F2 pancake lens.

I always shoot night football on this field with a minimum shutter speed of 1/640, and try for 1/800 at midfield. Unfortunately, I rolled the dial on the finger grip and slowed down my shutter. Luckily Fuji fixed this with the lock feature on the new firmware. Unfortunately, it was after the season was over :)

As I still am in favor of using one thread for regular photos of one theme, not making a new one for each sports category or event, I'm going to post my latest basketball shots here.

Good shots - my question would be, how did they get to be silhouetted against the Hilton? Are they coming off of a small kicker? A big one? Are they coming out of a half pipe? Are they 5ft above the ground, or 50? Where are they going to land? If you include a bit more context the viewer will understand the story better

The picture below is from Getty Images. It's a motorbike not a skier - but the principle holds. The photographer had used a wide-angle lens to get in the take-off and the landing, and has included spectators for context. It tells a much more powerful story than a close zoom on the action alone

Hi

Here's one with a little more context... ;)

....it's from of Québec City's Winter Carnaval annual Ice Canoe Race.

First of all the English translation of the french expression "canot à glace" might induces some confusion, rest assure, the canoes are solidly made of high-tech layout of fiber: kevlar, carbon, fiber-glass, not ice.

Ice Canoes were used to be a traditional way of travelling on the St-Lawrence River in winter has now evolved into an all out endurance and quite extreme sport with more than 40 teams and a circuit of ten races. Québec City's race is one of the oldest in existence dating back to 1894...

It's only a 3 kilometers ride across the St-Lawrence River from Québec to Lévis on the South shore and back to the starting point. But then, there is the ice, and to make things worse there is also the current and the tide that can be quite strong too, it's not an easy ride. In the elite class, the man will do it 3 times for a total distance of 9 km, the women 2 times and the participation class only once. It's really an all out effort: the best time this year in the men's elite was 1:26:01 hours, with the second and third place finishing just a few seconds later in a epic duel.

Shot with a X-T2 + XF50-140 with the 1.4TC and a X-T1 + XF16-55.

Hi !

Here's a few pics of some really fast kids in the 1000 m race at the Coupe Québec No 3, a provincial level competition.

This was the last long track speed skating event of the 16/17 season at our local ice ring.

Speed skating is really a nice sport to shoot, I think we are quite lucky to have this type of installation here in town....

    • Looking more like the next Fuji camera we see will be an X-T50 but it is still a rumor and no specs have been published.
    • Hey guys, The shutter on/off button switch may be loose on mine. After turning camera on and pressing the shutter/holding close to the area, the camera will turn off and say 'sensor cleaning'. This doesn't happen if I'm shooting via touch screen at all. Everything else is functional. Anyone else experience this before? Would love a much cheaper fix since Fuji Canada just quoted me $700 CAD to fix it, and considering everything else is functional except that part I'm not even sure why MPMB Main Board parts is being replaced😕 I got no explanation from them either.
    • As far as I know the firmware is not country specific. Are you sure that the filename has not been changed ( I am told this can happen with mac os). That's the only thing I can think of.
    • My x-t5 does not exhibit the focusing switch behaviour as you report it, so that is very strange and indicative of a fault. It does not matter whether the flash is attached or not. Once you set the camera for your studio flash, say 1/250th at f5.6, the camera, which is showing you what you will get at that exposure without the flash, will show a black screen unless the ambient light is brighter than what you would typically get indoors. That is why, as Jerry says, you have to set preview exp/wb to off. I have set a button for this.
    • I connected to FRAME.IO a while back and it works fine, but the camera wouldn't connect to the internet all of a sudden today and would get stuck on the reset screen, including initializing and even switching USB Connection mode. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
