red outlines appearing during focus in Viewfinder?

Recommended Posts

I was testing a Xpro-2 today in store when i noticed, what looked like subtle red outlines of objects during focus in the Viewfinder.

The salesperson mentioned it was telling me it was showing what i was photographing was over exposed, however everything was set to Auto. I had the feeling it had something to do with the focusing??

Can someone please advise what was causing the outlines to appear??? It was very annoying. Can it be turned off?

Thank you,

If they told you the red outlining was overexposure, then I can hardly believe how ignorant that sales person was! This is so basic that they should have been able to explain it correctly to you.

That's exactly what occurred. I believed she was incorrect, due to the lines appearing only during a certain time of focusing. Hence! Why I came here.

This forum has been great.

Glad you got your answer!

I'm just surprised that someone who makes a living from working in a camera shop is unable to explain about focus peaking on a mirrorless camera.

Anyway ... what was your impression of the X-Pro2? Considering to buy it?

I hear you.

Very impressed with the X Pro-2 while shooting with the new XF23mmF2 R WR – the former 23mm, not so impressed. My original plan was to buy the Leica Q but held off until I could hold the X Pro-2, XT2 and Leica Q in my hands. What the extra $3K in the Q has, is beyond me. All felt sturdy and sold in my hand. I found the manual focus to be more responsive on the Fuji's. That surprised me. So, the decision is now down the X Pro-2 or XT2……………… I'm going back next week, to my inept salesperson, to test the OVF on the Pro-2, then make a decision.

Blue Jays are tricky to get good photos like you have, they tend to fly away as soon as the lens cap comes off 😀.
    • I own the Fuji X-T1 and X-H1. I own several Fuji lenses but I tend to use 3rd party vintage manual glass which I find quite enjoyable to use. I'm testing a photo here taken from my Flickr account that showcases the Tokina 100-300mm Zoom lens with 1.4 extender. • Forgot to mention another thing. Mine does not work if I plug the USB cord into a USB hub. It only works if I plug the cord into one of the USB ports on my computer itself (an iMac). This surprises me because I think there's a hub built into the computer itself, which is how the computer has multiple USB ports in the first place. I think it was somebody here that suggested I try that -- sorry I don't remember who!
    • On another forum someone suggested spraying some electrical contact cleaner into the wheel but the Fuji tech said that could risk frying the rest of the cameras electrical so I haven't tried that.
    • I have an x100VI with 1.01 firmware - did a reset already and didnt solve issue I am about to describe. Can you all see if your camera does this: Switch to C mode, step down to f16 and then press shutter half way. Does your screen go dark? I have tried playing will all settings (have had the following so quite familiar with the menus: x100, x100f, XT-2, X-Pro 2, XT-3) , only happens in C mode. If you find this can you report to Fuji @ digitalinfo@fujifilm.com. They told me they had not seen this before and that it was normal behavior because the shutter is closing, but the shutter closes in S mode as well.
