Just bought xe1 any tips on setup pls

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Just bought an xe1, now initially I'm loving the ergonomics, viewfinder etc..

I'm off to Barcelona on the 24th and want to get the best out of it.

Any tips help and advice appreciated.

I bought due to the retro look and knowing of the xtrans sensor really.

Had an xa1 before but always wanted a viewfinder.

Are you users happy with your camera?

Thanks Gary

I love my X-E1. You will too. I recommend shooting JPEG "fine". Generally you can leave it in "P" auto mode by leaving aperture set to auto and shutter speed set to auto. Also set your ISO to auto. If you have a lens that does stabilization like the 18-55mm zoom for example, then set your auto ISO settings to minimum shutter speed of 1/30. Set the max ISO to 3200 or 6400 at night if you must.

Regarding film simulations, STD Provia is a good go-to. I also like "S" Astia quite a bit.

I also like to set DR to Auto for general travel shooting.

X-E1 has nice feature which I miss in X-E2 now. You can see "film simulation" icon when selecting Custom setting.

I usually save different combination of Auto-ISO + minimal shutter + film profile  to different Custom setting. So when I attach 18mm lens I switch to profile with Auto-ISO + 1/30 min shutter. When I use 100mm lens, I quickly switch to custom setting with Auto-ISO + 1/200 min shutter. That's very fast and convenient.
