When my X-E1, with the XC 50-230 attached, finds a focus point, it is pretty quick. However, when it cannot find anything to focus on, then it takes an eternity before the lens has traveled the whole focusing range (and the red rectangle appears).

I so understand that the X-E1 only uses CDAF focusing, while the X-E2 uses PDAF, which will be more reliable in low contrast situations. However, does the X-E2 (or X-T10) also get quicker to the conclusion that it cannot find a focus point? Or is the time that takes just a property of the lens?

Anyone who tried the XC 50-230 on both the X-E1 and the X-E2 (or X-T10)?

Thanks!

My XT-1 also can't get focus with XC50-230 sometimes, with long hunting. Rare situation but it is. Especially in lowlights.
I think behavior of 50-230 may be different for 1st and 2nd versions of lens, note the last one had a firmware update. I own first version so I cannot prove it.

From searching Google, I learned that it is the lens indeed. I don't complain about the focus hit rate though, even on a X-E1. And when it locks focus, it is spot on. It's just slooow when it starts hunting in less than ideal light.

I've used the XC 50-230 with an X-M1 and an X-E2.  The X-E2 is quicker when it's struggling if you use the central focus points - as it hunts less before giving up and giving you the red square.  Outside the central PDAF area it's the same as the X-M1
