X-Pro2 LCD Screen Flicker

Recommended Posts

Weird. Same here. Mine flickers about 2-3 times AFTER letting off the shutter button, not when I press it. But the issue seems to disappear/happen inconsistently at slower shutter speeds. And it changes whether I'm using auto shutter speed or setting it manually. As well, it seems to happen at any speed if I turn off exp/WB preview. How annoying...

Hi, same here, but in the beginning I did not notice it on the lcd, because I rarely use it. I noticed ithe problem on the evf, especially in daylight, not in artifical light. Almost everytimes after focussing the evf flickers very fast, let's say 3 to 7 times. No difference between the power management modes. Because I bought the camera one week ago, I'm not sure if it was different with firmware 1.01. I have already contacted Fuji, but no answer till now. Yes, a little bit annoying...

I'm not a videographer, so the quality is... ;-)

But if you look attentively you will see it anyway...

That's exactly what the flicker on mine looks like. What a bummer.

I waited for the solution of the turn-off-and-on-again bug. Was about to finally spring for the camera, which I really like. Now this. Another deal breaker. Please let us know how this issue works out for you. I'm right on the edge of giving up on the Pro2.

I did not recognize any other problems till now... never seen that reported bug

Is it possible that this is the apperture opening again after the shutter button is released? It does this in little steps that may cause the flickering effect. Look at the front of the lens when you let go the shutter button.

Right, the aperture is closing in light conditions, not in one step, but in several small steps (in difference to X-100 e.g. which closes the aperture after releasing the shutter button in one step and faster)... that might be the source of this flickering. And should be easy to correct I hope...

I noticed my battery was a bit low when this was happening. I changed out the half dead battery for a fresh one. Now it does not do it. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. But, for now it has stopped doing it on my x-pro2

I don't think the battery is the problem. Did you try it while pointing the camara to bright light, let's say outside? In darker conditions the flickering diasappears (maybe becauce the aperture does not close).

It was indoors at night, with just one overhead light in the room when I first noticed the flicker.. Just after I updated the firmware it started to flicker.. I noticed the battery was somewhat low, shut camera off and put it away.. The next day I took the camera out to see if I could figure out whats going on.  Put a new battery in it, started it up, and no flicker.. Indoors same overhead light, but during the day. I just now picked up the camera, in the same room, with same light at night. And the flicker is back. Not when I press the shutter half way this time. But when I release it, after being pressed half way.. Ive searched online, and havent really found much about this, other than it seams to be popping up more, and more now..

I'm pretty sure now that it is related to the closing aperture... you never see it in poor light conditions when the aperture stays open. For some reason the electronic seems to have a problem 'smoothing' the steps of closing aperture in the EVF and LCD. I'm pretty sure as well that Fuji can fix that...

I have to correct myself... it also happens in darker conditions. The only thing you have to do is to set the lens to a smaller aperture. Then the camera closes the aperture during focussing and opens it after releasing the shutter button. The same phenomenon comes up then every time... only reversed.

I see the same, but it was there also on the fw 1.01. It's caused by the aperture trying to adjust to what you have set it to be and what it was before half-pressing the shutter. A deal breaker? Come on ..  ;)

Yesterday Fuji officially confirmed that the flickering is caused by the aperture, but did not call it a malfunction. According to what they said it is a normal and wanted behavior of this camera. Ok, good to know, but I'm still convinced that it is not a neccesary behavior and could be changed by Fuji, as other cameras do it in a better way, even other Fuji cameras. We will see... and yes, it's not a deal breaker, but would definitely be better otherwise...

    • Hello. Thankyou, now Is all more clear: I have take some time in your link. Let tell you. I has totaly forget this machine have "compress picture option" and not Only "compress lossless" anyway not change the experiment. RAW  and this last two format look like same result about Number of recording picture. Can tell all results in this: in raw you can make 17 pictures for second. Is wrong. Is about One single Press and wait buffer. Full 30/20/10/8 not change. After 17 Need Press again. You not can Press before "redgreen light recording Is on".   With preshot you can have 25  are more 7 pictures . The story change Only in jpg shot only. In jpg at 30 you have 30 picture but redgreen light off very Fast so you can shot very quicly. At 20 shot Is about start look like infinite shot. 60. So the best performance are this last One  about Speed and recording picture after camera working witout big limit. I want take a shot about Italy cyclet Just for passion. I think i Will use this last setting.  After Need check when battery not are full change and ambient temp.  Anyway my cam look like exactly specific about you link. Im Happy my cam working perfectly.
    • I do not use Flickr, so I do not know what their BB code is. All I did was copy the second link you provided, (starting at https: and ending at  _k.jpg — leave off the [img] and [/img] tags) and pasted it into the message. After a moment, a message popped up asking if I wanted to paste it as the image or as a plain link. I did this twice, the first time I had it paste in as the image and the second time as a link. Nothing fancy or tricky.
    • So do I just copy the BB code from flickr and paste it anywhere on the page like other forums or is there some other trick I need to perform to get it to post?
    • All software is the latest between camera and app. All settings are correct on camera. I have both lossless and uncompressed RAW files on the card in the camera. I have been up and down every reddit thread to no avail and am losing my mind… I’m doing all of the right things. It even sees my camera. It just doesn’t create the “drive” for it (see attached image screenshot).  Please Help!
