Afraid to purchase x-t4 or 5

if you visit sites dedicated to other manufacturers’ cameras you will find similar issues, people posting about problems they are having with their gear. But that seems to be the nature of the beast, folks seldom post glowing tales of how good things are.

The cameras you are considering are good, and people are using them to get fantastic and ordinary images. Sometimes things do not work as expected, and so folks will chat about that, but overall, do not let that stop you from trying them. If, by chance, you do get a bad copy, they come with a warranty that will replace it with a new better one.

I've been using Fujifilm since February 2012.  I started with an XT1 - which just so happens to be sitting here next to me with the original 27mm 2.8 lens.  I sold ALL my Nikon gear including multiple D800e bodies, 70-200 24-70 and 16-24. The only Nikon I still own is my original D700 with a 50mm 1.8 and the 18-35 zoom lens.   I really fell in love with the Fuji system.  As you will note in my "signature" below I own quite a few Fuji items.  I have NEVER had a camera issue that required repair --- The exception being my Fujifilm S2Pro DSLR body that required a new sensor and Fuji replaced it free of charge and it was already a five year old camera.

So I'd go for it if you really want a Fuji.  On this forum you have an amazing support group that will answer your requests for assistance.

Good Luck with whatever decision you make.

I second what Jerryy and Jorge said. A certain (very small) percentage of even the best products of even the best manufacturers can occasionally be faulty and when that happens, it gets talked about a lot. Happens also to every camera manufacturer. Everything in my signature (to borrow this way of putting it from Jorge) has been working perfectly well for years. Except for the X-T5 which is fairly recent obviously and which for its price is a no-brainer, I think. Go grab one and enjoy ! A lovely piece of kit. And post some photos for us to see. Cheers J&J !

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but this is my first-ever contribution to this forum. I had used to work as an intake specialist for camera repair, where I became familiar with problems particular to certain makes and models of cameras. Some models have problems that tend to occur because of their design or a part specific to them. I learned to do research on what such common problems were before I'd buy a camera. For example, I've seen repeatedly reported that the screen on the X-Pro3 has shorted out because of how its mechanical apparatus affects the ribbon cable that carries the signal to the screen. (Such issues are why it's prudent to wait a while after the release of a new model.) The thing with Fuji cameras is that such a "flaw" in design is rare, as I find them incredibly well-constructed. Also, although it does happen, it's rare for me to learn of a Fuji X camera that has "just quit." I've fallen down, with my X-T4 hitting the ground, on more than one occasion, and the camera remained unfazed. I'd expected at least for its IBIS to be affected by this, but no.

I have found that Fuji appears to have poor quality control in the manufacture of X-T4 cameras. Specifically, poor sensors. Out of three X-T4 cameras I ordered, two were returned because of spots on the sensors.

Like others have stated, it happens and can happen to any brand make or model. All industries are subject.

I have had my X-T5 for 2 months and it is perfect. I come from Canon FF both EF and RF and Nikon for analog, all companies and segments with incredibly high QC rates. This Fuji is the same, from mechanical to software, top marks.

If you look for negative reviews, you will find them. Complainers are 10x more likely to voice an opinion than those satisfied.

I'm four months in and love my X-T5, no problems at all.  For me it came down to format choice, APSC.  The brand choice became Sony or Fuji as Canon lens selection seems lacking.  Then read up strengths and weaknesses of the two.  But physically looking at the camera made the difference.  I have XL hands and the Sony actually felt too small to hold.  I preferred Fuji handling but the big difference was the dials.  I could see how to adjust ISO, aperture, and shutter speed without instruction.  Took me back to days of shooting film.  I just wanted to use it.  I don't like wading through menus and I don't have to with this camera.  It has a ton of features I haven't used but I appreciate that I can go out and have fun, taking great stills, and learning the advanced stuff at a very slow pace.  I've only shot a couple videos and have no idea what to do with the histogram.  I'm not sure I care, love the camera.  As for 4 vs. 5, that's hard to say.  I don't want to video of myself so I prefer the tilt screen on the 5.  The resolution increase isn't a bad thing, I trim my shots quite of bit and more res helps with that.  I kinda wanted the latest and hopefully greatest.  But if the dollar savings is enough to help out your lens budget then go for it.

I'd never understood why people insist that the flippy screen (as on the X-T4) is "better for video," as I've seen no improvement in video quality while using it flipped out to the side. Now I finally understand that they'd meant "better for vlogging." I don't even know any vloggers. They only exist on YouTube.

My X-T4 developed a dust-spot beneath the glass that covers the sensor, although that occurred two years after I'd purchased it. A $250 repair. Maybe the sealing of that part had been negligent.

    • Looking more like the next Fuji camera we see will be an X-T50 but it is still a rumor and no specs have been published.
    • Hey guys, The shutter on/off button switch may be loose on mine. After turning camera on and pressing the shutter/holding close to the area, the camera will turn off and say 'sensor cleaning'. This doesn't happen if I'm shooting via touch screen at all. Everything else is functional. Anyone else experience this before? Would love a much cheaper fix since Fuji Canada just quoted me $700 CAD to fix it, and considering everything else is functional except that part I'm not even sure why MPMB Main Board parts is being replaced😕 I got no explanation from them either.
    • As far as I know the firmware is not country specific. Are you sure that the filename has not been changed ( I am told this can happen with mac os). That's the only thing I can think of.
    • My x-t5 does not exhibit the focusing switch behaviour as you report it, so that is very strange and indicative of a fault. It does not matter whether the flash is attached or not. Once you set the camera for your studio flash, say 1/250th at f5.6, the camera, which is showing you what you will get at that exposure without the flash, will show a black screen unless the ambient light is brighter than what you would typically get indoors. That is why, as Jerry says, you have to set preview exp/wb to off. I have set a button for this.
    • I connected to FRAME.IO a while back and it works fine, but the camera wouldn't connect to the internet all of a sudden today and would get stuck on the reset screen, including initializing and even switching USB Connection mode. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
