manual focus

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am new to photography and using a fuji x pro 1. I love the camera and have been getting to grips with features and have taken some pretty amazing photographs ( well amazing for me that is )

I haven't yet used the manual focus and am wondering if there is an easy way to see what it actually does compared to the automatic or continuous focus setting? Do I just turn it on and then try and move the lens like on an old film camera to bring a subject into focus ? or do I need to adjust the settings?

any help appreciated

Thanks

Lorraine

By selecting the manual focus option on the focus selector, you will only alter the way autofocus works. That means you retain all other automated functions of the camera such as ISO, aperture and shutter speed, unless you choose to go into manual mode for any of them.

So yes it's exactly like an old camera regarding manual focus.

The X-Pro1 will help you manually focus through some nice features (focus peaking, focus point zoom) for example.

Have fun!

Turn on M mode on the front AF selector dial.

Switch on "Shoot without Lens" in Menu.

Don't forget to turn on focus assist and set it to high.

Pressing in the thumb scroll dial will activate the "magnify" tool on your lcd.

Press AF button to move the focus square to the desired area on the LCD to check focus while shooting.

Turn the manual focus ring on lens to focus.

All else works exactly as it does in AF mode.

It takes a while to get things in perfect focus but once you do, It's a fun process. happy shooting.

    • Ahoy ye hearties! Hoist ye yon Jolly Roger and Cascade away. NGC 1502 The Jolly Roger Cluster:

This is the equivalent of 43 minutes, 40 seconds of exposure. NGC 1502 is a neat little cluster located in the Camelopardalis Constellation. This region of space was thought to be fairly empty by early astronomers, but as you can see, there is a lot there. Kemble's Cascade (a.k.a. Kemble 1) is named for Father Lucian Kemble, a Canadian Franciscan friar who wrote about it to Walter Scott Houston, an author for the Sky And Telescope magazine. Houston named the asterism for Fr. Kemble and the name "stuck". NGC 1501 is the Oyster Nebula. A longer focal length telescope is needed to bring this one into good viewing range, but it is well worth the effort. • Looking for input; there are some decent deals and might want to take advantage to expand my lenses for my 100s already own: 110/2 32-64 35-70 100-200 + TC   Shooting mostly family shots, bringing my kit to capture family outings indoors and out. Tracking the 63/43 effective FLs on the two, but has anybody used both? Would the 55 (covered by two zooms right now) be redundant? Would the 80 be too similar in character to my 110 for portraiture?
    • See what I mean? Two instantaneous ads. Worthless.
    • What's the deal Fuji X Forum? I'm noticing there are seldom replies to any topics - except for advertisements posted as replies. Really lame. Anyone else noticing the only reply they receive to a question is an advert?  🤠 fotomatt in Colorado
