Following 2 pictures are taken at F1.4 on 2 different 35mm lens + X-E2 :

  • Fuji XF 35mm 1.4
  • Zhongyi 35mm 0.95 II

Do you see any difference? Which image looks slightly better? Which SAMPLE is XF35mm ?

I'll post the answer soon, just curious if it's easy to say for experienced XF35mm shooters.

Is it out of camera pics? No? So in PP you can make different lenses look alike.

Yes, they are SOOC Jpeg, no PP, just resized to 1300px top samples, and also cut 100% crops to compare.

I've also purged EXIF by re-inserting JPEG into new file, saved with 90% compression all samples, so the comparison is fair without looking into EXIF.

I'll post originals with EXIF later as well.

Horrible halo effects and jpeg artifacts on both the uncropped shots tbh. Not a great subject to see textures, and neither lens makes a good job of it.

Here are full size samples, with JPEG quality 100%, should be no significant artifacts there. BTW, NR is -2 on both shots.

I don't observe any halo, can you explain that in more details?

Anyway, samples are targeted for subjective comparison, so you did, and it's one of great and detailed feedback, thanks.

Looks like not much activity there, so I'm posting the answer : )

I think it'd be higher activity if I could add real poll engine here.

SAMPLE 1 - ZSM 35mm II

SAMPLE 2 - Fuji XF35mm

I'd also add how I detect the difference. I've noticed that things while shooting with Nikkor 50mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.8 lens on same apertures.

Despite the artifacts, colors, shadows, contrast, sharpness there is significant difference of how the OOF blurs.

Usually faster lens will have more smooth OOF, even if same aperture is set. Here we can observe the same by looking at OOF area.

Glad to see that many experienced shooters easily detected XF35mm : )

Thanks for participation and valuable arguments!
