The X-Pro1 - Still Perfectly Valid

Recommended Posts

If anyone is interested...

I'm writing about my lust/hate/love affair with the X-Pro1 on my blog!

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/

As well as this story, there's many shots taken with the X-Pro1 and some with the XT1.

Please note that my blog features NO donate links, or buy prints links or buy from advertising partners links! It's simply a labour of love - a bit like using the X-Pro1 can be!! :D

...........

Edited post for anyone not scrolling to the bottom!!

The full story so far!

Unless someone can tell me otherwise (and please do), I think that I've now created one of the (if not simply 'the') largest opinion* based X-Pro1 articles on the internet.

(*there's facts and stuff in there too and of course many things are also true of the later X cameras!!)

I remain as passionate and enthusiastic about the X-Pro1 as I always, I know it's neither the newest or best camera out there, but I sincerely believe it's a perfectly valid photography solution, offering a signature look to it files, and in usage, the body responds well to be treated like a film camera.

So here's a overview:

Part 1:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/

When you fall for a camera, does it always work out how you think?

"Boy meets camera, lives happily ever, right? WRONG! But how wrong? And can two wrongs make a right?"

Part2:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/finally/

When you dream that a camera will be everything you hoped, how will you react when it isn't?

"This is the part where I moan, complain and moan some more about the laggy EVF, the woefully inaccurate OVF experience, the glacier slow AF"

Part3:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-three/

When you start to miss imperfection.

"The second time around the X-Pro1 became so very, very much more than eye candy to me. I finally figured out how to use it, I fell in love with it holistically"

Part4:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-four/

When you (well I !!) start to realise it's the way that files look that's important

" it was enough to draw me in - to forgive the camera its quirks and foibles and want to get the best from it."

Part5:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-five/

When you try to define just exactly what it is that you love about the look of an image

" IN MY OPINION and TOO MY EYE the X-Pro1 has a signature to its images, a look that I love very much."

Part6:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-six/

When you understand how over come physical limitations, via self improvement

"as you can see (and perhaps agree) by taking back control of focus from the shutter button, we still can utilize the benefits of AF"

Part7:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-seven/

When you understand that blind love of a camera is only a personal view point and that's important

"when things get personal, then people tend to bring their A game, and a strong A game can accomplish anything"

Part8:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-eight/

When you start to look at what bits and bobs you can add on to your camera

"they add to the camera, and they enrich the overall ownership experience"

Part9:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-nine/

When you realise that companies other than the OEM can offer valid items for your camera

"I’m going to say that if you’re getting a genuine benefit"

Part10:

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-ten/

When you have a good look at your camera's files and find your own path

"Why would I want to truncate my potential output by dismissing any of the available options"

The latest part.

Well it's Sunday morning, so that must been it's time for another installment of my X-Pro1 article!

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-eleven/

This week I take a look at the DR modes and their relationship to ISO.

But how do they work, and do I PERSONALLY feel they're worth using?

Enjoy...

Nice one Adam,

The images speak for themselves and are a great endorsement for the X-pro1.

I have been using the X100 series since the original X100, now running the X100s and have been so impressed that when Fuji offered the "Silly sale deals" before Christmas I picked up a brand new X-pro1 with case, 18 & 27mm for £600  so the cost of the lenses equates to more than the camera body and case so a case of "buy two lenses and get a new X-Pro1 and case free".

With the latest firmware it is a great performer and the AF is faster and more accurate than even my X100s!

I am so pleased with it (it reminds me of my days working as a PJ shooting analogue Leica rangefinders) and is a step up from the Leica M8.2 I used to own that I have traded in my Olympus micro 4/3 kit that has sat in a cupboard and pre-ordered the X-Pro2.

It is a very underestimated camera and deals can still be found in a few stores!  Great camera that delivers superb IQ and mine is used for street / landscape etc leaving my DSLR for sport / airshows etc.

After thinking about it for weeks, I finally pulled the trigger and bought an X Pro 1 at the discounter price of $499.

I think that's an awesome price for an amazing camera.

At the same time I got the famous 90mm lens at the current discounted price.

I think 499 is a great price for this amazing body.

Sure, it's no X Pro 2, but it's a great camera.

As I looked at those X-Pro1 shots I noticed that they were different from the X-T1 ones. Not necessarily better, not necessarily worse, but different.

I've spent quite a bit of time trying to figure this out for myself. In my photos, generally speaking, I compose shots a lot differently through the OVF than I do through the X-T1's EVF. I think that's part of why I keep picking up my X-Pro1. It's not something I do consciously when shooting either.

How I stopped expecting the ..............to do something it couldn't and instead got it to do things that it could!

Well, this, applied to any camera ( just add the name on the dots) that happens to be no more the latest one on the market, is one of the most sensible phrases that I have read about taking pictures.

Sometimes it looks like the people who were using a camera until it was surpassed by another model forgot that this, once, was the non plus ultra of its times... and that those times were only 5 years or so ago!

The X Pro1 will be able to give pleasure and make pictures for a very long time after some snobs have declared it a leper.

It's Sunday! The first day of spring - the dawn of the 2016 MotoGP/F1 motosports championships. (don't tell me the result, I've been busy writing this!!)

But of course, it's also time for my weekly X-Pro1 story update!!

The X-Pro1: Sycophants Please Step Outside…

Sycophants Please Step Outside

Just because someone really likes something, doesn't actually make it good... But what ultimately is the most important USP? (Unique Selling Point)

It's easy, easy like Sunday morning...

So easy writing about a camera that I enjoy as much as the X-Pro1!!

And speaking of Sunday morning, let's have part 12 of my little* missive

http://adambonn.com/my-love-affair-with-the-fujifilm-x-pro1/xp1-twelve/

Today we take a look at maximising DR in Jpegs, by using the highlight and shadow settings

Enjoy!

We might set up a clearinghouse post/thread here to trade them.

And if one of us can come up with an easy test of diopter experience measurement, that would help. For example, people with what they believe to be well-matched diopter lenses might try looking at 12-point type through that diopter lens - off camera - and report sharpness at 8". (I made up that number.) Then we'd have an off-campus metric. Yes, I know it wouldn't be perfect and would not account for astigmatism.

I'm hunting for a good XPro1 so I may need something!

I think the struggle with the XP1 and diotres is that you technically need a different strength one for the EVF and the OVF, so success on finding one depends on your eyesight prescription...

The easiest solution for that is using the X-Pro1 with the OVF, and the X-E1/2 for the other situations. The X-Pro1 EVF is not that good anyway, compared to the X-E cameras.
