External flash gets disabled after firing once

I just received a Flashpoint Studio Flash (FPBF120) which connects to my X-T3 via the sync terminal. The flash fires correctly when I take one picture, but doesn't fire on subsequent shots, and won't even let me test fire even though it indicates it's ready to fire. At first I thought this was a flash issue but then realized that unplugging and re-plugging the flash sync cable fixes the issue for one more shot before it's disabled again (restarting the camera does not fix the issue).

Do I have a faulty flash/camera? Or do these two models simply not play nicely together?

(I'm running firmware version 4.11. The only difference between it and the latest is a minor bug fixes, and I would not consider this to be minor!)
