Fuji XF18-135mm Lens Automatically Zooms?

On a few occasions when I was setting up to shoot a subject within a few feet or so, the image in my viewfinder suddenly zoomed in to the subject, probably to maximum image at 135 mm. My view also included a small outline of a rectangle containing the entire original image and then a smaller outlined rectangle within that which contained the zoomed in portion of the image.  To my knowledge I did not use any setting on my camera or lens to cause this and I was quite surprised to see this.  Is anyone aware of this happening?  I don't know if it could be some obscure function of the lens/camera or if there is something wrong with my lens/camera and it needs repair.

My camera is X-H1.  Thanks for any help.

Thanks, problem solved!  You are both on track about focus & zone, it was not a zoom issue.  I learned that it will zoom in to the AF area if you press the rear command dial. Guess that's what I inadvertently did. Never would I have thought to explore that, but now I do see it mentioned in the manual.  But who reads every line of the 288 page manual?
