Latest MacOS update (10.15.2) broke USB tethering?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I have been shooting tethered for the last few days but this morning I failed to connect my camera (X-H1) to Capture One (v20). Tried rebooting, removed the battery from the camera, checked for latest firmware and software. Nothing. Then, on the same MacBook, I tried to run Fujifilm X Aquire, nothing. Updated it to the latest version, still nothing. I then tried to connect the same camera to an older MacBook with another cable. It is also running macOS Catalina, but it does not have the latest patch that was released this week. I was able to use X Aquire instantly.

Would someone be so kind to help me to narrow down the problem? Do you experience issues too whilst shooting tethered via USB on MacOS with the latest update (10.15.2) installed? Otherwise there might be an issue with the Macbook itself or the Tethertools USB-C cable I am using. Perhaps X-T3 users too?

Thanks a lot!

Sander.

Hi Olaf,

I am aware of the official release and support, but in my case the Fuji X Aquire software never stopped working when I upgraded to MacOS Catalina. Also, on my other laptop which is also running Catalina but on 10.15.1, so one patch level down, the Fuji software still works. My problem is actually broader than just the Fuji software. I normally use Capture One for USB tethering (v20 as we speak), and have been doing so since V20 was released last week. It only stopped working after I updated MacOS this week hence the question if other users also experience the same behaviour.

Thanks,

Sander.

I did some more digging and found a confirmation of the behaviour on the Phase One forum:

So basically all USB tethering for (AFAIK) all camera's is broken in Lightroom, Capture One and X Aquire on MacOS 10.15.2. Perhaps it is worth mentioning this on the website @Olaf W.
