Working a bridesmaids brunch yesterday, suddenly my new (9/2016) i60a started making this horrible "cracking" sound, the flash would charge (green light) and then make a popping/crack sound and the ready light would go to red and start up again. Sounded like it was shorting out- the noise was definitely electrical discharge or something, I shut it off and put it in my bag after removing the batteries. Hopefully it hasn't done anything to the flash circuitry of the XT-2! The camera seems ok, performed fine without the flash (thanks for the 56/1.2 in a dim room).
When I got home I put batteries in it again, and pushed the 'on' button. Flash cycled up and when the green ready light came on for a second or two, it made the same (frightening) crack-popping noise and the ready light went back to red, and I was done! Shut it off, and have sent it back to Minox USA.
I had the firmware upgraded to work with my XT-2 last month.
Anyone else run into this?
The bugger is this- I have an i40 that I use on my XT-1. But I can't use it on the XT-2 because of the firmware. So if I need to use flash, for now I'll need to use my XT-1. sigh.
