  1. The most common thumb rest is the one by lensmate available for $70 on amazon.com. I understand that its a solid crafted metal piece, but I think $70 is a little high. Does anyone have a recommendation of an alternative thumb rest they have tried thats not overpriced?
  2. I made a short test of dynamic range is ES and MS, sorry, written in Hungarian but if you click on galleries you can see the comparison. I might say that forget the e-shutter, but this is not that simple. If you are a landscape, or astro photographer, use a good old mechanical shutter. A new generation of Sony sensors have significant detail from the shadows. But if you photograph people, however, then feel free to use the e-shutter. The nuances of facial skin is not good for the brutal level of post-processing correction, not a coincidence that Fuji DR200 is only going to set up automatic (equivalent to 1 EV plus used).
  3. i did sports for the first time with my fuji setup. anyone who is interested can read about my experience here: http://www.patrickpapesch.com/messenger-race-with-the-fujifilm-x-t1-2/ any feedback and discussion is welcome:)
  4. Hi there. I wonder if someone had a mechanical shutter failure in his or her X-T1 ? Mine is ok for now but im curious for how long it will be alive. Greetings
  5. I cannot afford to spend $500, $1000 or more for a nice macro lens, so I found an old Canon FD 200mm F4 Macro lens on Ebay for $300. It is an awesome macro, but I need another old macro lens that is more in the 50-100mm range. With the 200mm, I end up having to back a little too far away from the subject at times. Constantly getting up and walking over to reposition the subject is annoying. Any recommendations for some incredibly awesome vintage macro glass?
  6. https://insigniachiaki.wordpress.com/2016/01/19/x-gene-a-love-and-hate-story-fujifilm-x-pro1-x-t1/ Hi! I would just to like you guys to know that I have created a blog and written my impressions of the X-T1 and X-Pro1 in a post there. I have shot Fuji for a year now, more or less. It would be great to have some feedbacks! Thanks!
  7. Hi all, I took my Fuji XT1 for a shoot yesterday and something that caught my attention is that when I hold my camera in portrait mode and tilt it along Y axis (vertically slowly), the panorama mode turns on. Is that normal? How to turn it off? Is there some sort of automatic accelerometer related function that turns it on? Also I observed that shooting mode automatically jumped from S to 'ADV.' then to Panorama while holding it in portrait. I just wondering if there's some sort of issue with the Drive dial. This isn't something that happens always happens while shooting with the camera title sideways, but lately it's become more noticeable. Thanks, SR
  8. When I first started using digital cameras, I was dismayed by the lack of a small but worthwhile accessory that I'd always used with film SLRs — a real eyecup. Quite a few manufacturers call their slip-on eyeguards "eyecups," but they aren't. They're don't keep (distracting and annoying) stray light out of the viewfinder. When I used Canon DSLRs, I went through the considerable pain of making my own eyecups — I'd found a small supply of ancient "A" series eyecups that fit nicely onto Canon's slip-on eyeguards. It was worth the trouble. (Later, the people at Hoodman finally got a clue and started making real eyecups for Canon cameras.) When I went to a Nikon system, I was grateful that Nikon continues to make real eyecups for its higher-end DSLRs. I was bummed to find that Fuji doesn't. But never say die. Again I've made my own using the stock X-T1 eyepieces, Nikon rubber eyecups, and the great adhesive product called Sugru — and as with the Canon cameras I'm glad I went to the trouble. (I wish I could buy not just the extended eyecup for the X-T1, but also the smaller one that comes with the camera — it's easier to work with.) But is this DIY business necessary? Does any third party make a real (round) rubber eyecup for the X-T1, attached to a proper-fitting slip-on eyepiece? I asked Hoodman about this, but they claimed in their reply that it costs about $100,000 to tool up for a new product — and they don't think the Fujifilm cameras are a big enough deal to make such a product worth their while. Maybe it isn't worth their while, but I would still think there's a market for a small but sometimes pretty important accessory like that.
