  1. More from my trip to Israel can be seen here.
  2. Just some miscellany shots. More here. But this was kinda special:
  3. Hello Forum! I did a shoot yesterday and a first happened to me in regards to missing files on the SD card. I shoot JPG+RAW and import all RAW files into Lightroom as I like working with the RAW files and pushing them sometimes. Anyhow ... 3 of my images were missing. I went back to my SD card and 3 of the images I shot did not have the RAW file!! The JPG was there but the RAW was missing. Now ... what differed in these 3 images is the camera aperture, ISO and shutter speed. Because it was bright outside and I wanted longer exposure (and didn't have ND filter with me) I set camera to 1/20 F22 and ISO to "L". This was the first time I pushed ISO below 200. I'm guessing that by pushing the ISO to 100 (at least I think that is what L gives) the camera does not record RAW file!? Thanks for any wisdom.
  4. Hello, A few weeks ago I went to see some motocross event close to where I live. I have been there in the past, but this year was the first time with my X-T1. I brought along my XF18-55, the XF55-200 but also an adapted Leica Summilux-R. I have used this MF lens in the past on my Canon gear and its rendering is wonderful. Focusing on fast moving subjects is pretty hard to do, so one has to use a different approach. Find a nice position along the track, where you can see the bikes coming. Prefocus on a piece of the track where you have possibility of a nice shot (e.g. after a hump, or in a bend). Set the f-stop to f/5.6 ~ f/11 for plenty DoF. Check the shutterspeed you get. Longer ones give nicer motion blur, but your keeper rate will drop considerably. I try somthing between 1/125 and 1/400 depending on the speed of the bikes and curves in the track. The whole set is on my Flickr, but the images are unsorted regarding lenses. https://flic.kr/s/aHskbHe8Pm Kind regards, Crispian
  5. I shot this photos on a climbing path over the city of Caprie, in Piemonte, Italy. It's a climbing that whoever with a normal physical form can face. Carring the X-T1 all the way to the top wasn't difficult, expect from some difficult transition where the rock was on my left side (where I had the camera), and the weight of the camera + lens didn't bother me at all. I almost forgot of it in some moments. Here some of the shots I took. #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 #7
  6. Interesting walk on Roosevelt Avenue. More here.
  7. Hi! Recently I was trying to get an nice sharp overall image while manual focusing at the hyperfocal distance. I have the 18-135 mm lens, the pictures I had taken where all at a focal length of 18mm. The apertures I tried where F16, F11 and F8 so the hyper focal distance should be (according to DOF Master) respectively 1.03, 1,45 and 2,04 meters. The results where pretty sharp!! So it seems to be working! But the distance indicator on the X-T1 is not that accurate (white indicator, not the blue zone) therefore it is almost impossible to set the distance indicator at exactly 1,45 meter as example. I was wondering if you guy's are using these values as well or using different values, resulting in a better sharpness? (I'm aware of the discussions about the representation of the blue DOF zone towards infinity) Greetz, Burb

  11. Hi everybody! During Christmas 2014, me and my girlfriend spent three weeks traveling through the northern half of Vietnam. The tour was (unsurprisingly) more or less: Hanoi --> Cat Ba --> Ninh Binh --> Hue --> Hoi An Wait... what? Heard that somewhere before? Well, that's right. This is the second of two "twin threads". Check out the (rather mediocre) landscapes over here. After having a long, hard second look at all the pictures, I decided to make a dedicated thread for the street shots. Normally, I would consider myself more of a landscape photographer, but I have definitely shot far better landscapes with my trusty X-T1 than on this trip. And even after several months back, I still like the documentary-style shots way better than the landscapes. One reason might very well be that with all the heavy-DSLR-lugging tourists everywhere, the X-T1 made me feel rather unobstrusive, so I had no problem getting in close and establishing some sort of contact with the people I shot. Or in some cases - take a few steps back: This was also the trip that made me seriously fall in love with the 35mm-equivalent (which was the XF 23mm 1.4 back then... and which also led to an additional X100T later on... *sigh*). So, let's get this finally started with the... Streets of Hanoi, Part I Make no mistake - If you're not used to Asia, arriving in Hanoi will come to you like a shock. Well, it certainly did for me. The smog made breathing pretty heavy already when we left the airport. The taxi ride into the city gave us a glimpse of the madness that's called traffic which would await us in the Old Town. People keep telling you and they do because it's true: It does take you something like half an hour to cross the street at first. Unless you have a death wish. After half a day, however, I got used to the constant madness, crossing the street became merely a matter of not looking left and right, walking at a constant pace, trusting the motorbikes to drive past you and NOT EVER STOPPING ONCE YOU STARTED WALKING. It's about then when your attention is drawn to all the things that are going on around you at the side of the streets: This fairly quickly made me finally fall in love with the city. I don't know how other tourist experiences are, but I felt pretty much unhasseled and safe wherever I went. And the food is absolutely delicious - we pretty much started eating street food right away and never had any issues. Sitting on a plastic chair within all the chaos, scrubbing your spoon and chopsticks clean, eating ridiculously delicious noodles of all varieties, served with fresh herbs you've probably never tasted before (and which you share with pretty much everyone near the food stall) is just a great experience. Oh, and did I mention the cà phê sữa? Try the coffee! Drink the coffee! Love the cof... okay, I guess you got it.

  13. Hi everybody! During Christmas 2014, me and my girlfriend spent three weeks traveling through the northern half of Vietnam. The tour was (unsurprisingly) more or less: Hanoi --> Cat Ba --> Ninh Binh --> Hue --> Hoi An I would consider myself more of a landscape photographer and I have definitely shot far better landscapes with my trusty X-T1 than on this trip. (Probably because I spent too much time enjoying the country and the incredibly delicious food... ) However, I would like to start my first topic here with Vietnam anyway for a simple reason: This was the trip that made me finally switch completely from Nikon to Fuji, for reasons of weight, bulk and inconspicuousness. So, expect a little bit of mediocre landscapes and some decent street shots. I anyway put it in this forum since the subjects are mostly typical travel-centered things. Hope you enjoy! As a starter: One of my favourites from Hanoi's West Lake:
  14. I'm looking for a lens filter mostly to protect my 18-135 lens and don't want to cheap out on it. Any recommendation?

  16. What are the thoughts on the Rokinon 12mm Vs. the Fuji 10–24 in terms of image quality? I understand that with the Rokinon you get a fixed focal length and no auto focus. I have the Fuji 18–135 and three M42 mount lenses: 28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8 and 70-210mm f4–5.6. I think all I am missing is an ultra wide. I don't have the budget to drop $800 on the Fuji 10–24. If the Fuji is really worth the price, should I wait till I find a good deal on eBay? Thanks all.
  17. Hi people Has any one bought a Fujifilm X-T1 half leather case from Fuji there not cheap but I thought I would treat myself But on the web site it says it has access to battery and SD card.Well it arrived today and unless I am going Bonkers There is a flap to the battery but no access to the SD card doors its just a solid leather side where the sd card door is. So it looks like that you have to take off the case every time you want to change SD cards which is mad Anyone got one Any help
  18. On my canon DSLR, there was a way to input copyright info into the camera so every image had the copyright when I imported into Lightroom. Is there no such setting on the X-T1? Right now my workaround is to import my images and manually input my copyright info on one image and then sync the metadata on all the other images. I am not a professional and not an expert in Lightroom. If there is an easier way to do this, I would appreciate some pointers.
  19. The OEM battery for the X-T1 costs $48 (amazon.com), where as two non-oem batteries along with a travel charger (also on amazon.com) costs $24. Most reviews on amazon say the non-oem batteries are great. What are thoughts of the community? Would I be correct to assume that the OEM battery would hold a longer charge and last more charge cycles in the long run? Can the non-oem battery affect the electronics in a negative way? Thanks.

  21. Hi all, I'm new here, and a recent convert to the XT1 from a Canon 650D. I'm mostly into travel photography, and thankfully I got high enough up the learning curve to get some good shots on a recent trip to Chernobyl and Pripyat. These are mostly with the 10-24 iirc First we went to the Duga 3 radar array which is the most spectacularly big abandoned thing I've ever seen. And has awesome gates. Then we hit the road to Chernobyl. Pretty much all the roads are very long, completely straight and completely deserted. Then Pripyat Which has a ferris wheel...
  22. Sony had a flap like this one few years ago with one of their IR cameras. www.wired.com/2015/08/fujifilm-x-t1-infrared/ Of course, I don't think they have one to test, but the phenomenon is well known.
  23. When you make square pictures (ratio 1:1) with the Fuji X-T1, only a part of the sensor will be used. Why does Fuji not make the sensor bigger (higher)? You can still use the same lenses but the quality of square pictures will increase.
  24. It had to happen some time that someone would copy the hugely expensive Thumb grip for the X-T1. Some of us had quickly noticed that the “ universal types” suitable for rangefinder style cameras, don’t work on the X-T1 ( and wouldn’t work on the X-T10 too) , because of the “ hump” containing the EVF, where the flash hot shoe is. All the Chinese copied which more or less fit on a variety of cameras, quite literally, fell short when it came to the X-T1. Quite by chance, when scouring the net, I came across this “ fittest MZ-005’ which I believe is the first copy of the Thumb grips for the X-T1.
  25. A couple of shots from a Grape Stomp event at a winery in Minnesota. I had a lot of fun shooting casual portraits and some other stuff, and fun sampling the wine too.
