My 6x6 Hasselblad can barely keep up with my X100T with slow speed film, and it's nowhere close at anything over iso 800...

I still shoot film, but for the process, the deliberate slowing down and the colours in films like Portra. That's about it. If I need to do serious work, I go for the digital gear...

People have to find some way to justify their choices.

Personally, I've shot enough film to know that I capture much more detail in my digital images than I ever did with 35mm film. Add to that the issue of grain/noise (1600 asa film is brutal) and the many (MANY) conveniences of digital and I'm very happy with never shooting film again.

People can justify it with their lpm measurements all they want. The results are all that matter to me.

I'm sure that typewriters are capable of rendering type "better" (subjective) than a computer is. Doesn't make me want to use one though.

Each time the resolution of digital increases, the claimed resolution of 35mm film increases as well.

Kevin Mullins probably doesn't have the time to "weather" his cameras to get that antique look  leave alone pamper his camera.

I have tried fire retardant 3M electrical tape during my days in IASCA tournaments. They work great and doesn't leave gunk like you said.

I am very confident that the X-T2 will replace quite a few dslr and entice a host of dslr shooters. I tried the X-T2 at it's launch and already it's trumped the very capable Pro2. I love it.

Aswald said "I guess, this issue exists with other formats too. Perhaps it is more significant as previously most medium format cameras rely on leaf shutters. Would HSS be a possible solution to this issue? Granted HSS itself has issues."

Yes, one of the significant differences between medium format and 35 mm based systems is almost total reliance on focal plane shutters in the 35 mm world. There are a few fixed lens cameras that use leaf shutters (Leica Q and Fuji x-100 series as an aps-c example), but all system cameras are focal plane shutter cameras. For them, HSS is the only option.

But, HSS is, at best, a partial solution. According to Profoto, their B1 strobe, which supports HSS, loses one stop of flash power for every stop above the flash sync you go. So, if you use the B1's HSS function with the Fuji, to get to 1/1000 sec from Fuji's 1/125 sync speed, you lose three stops of power. That just turned a 500 w/s strobe into a speedlight. By contrast, the Hasselblad X1D, can sync at 1/2000 sec with no loss of power. Yes, leaf shutter lenses are more expensive, but, lighting gear, especially lighting gear that is light and portable, is very expensive. So, for those photographers who use lighting gear on location, the cost of the leaf shutters are well worth the price. It's no more expensive for them, and it cuts down on the bulk that they have to carry on location.

These are Kevin Mullin's Pro2's so I'm positive one of them is probably the prototype, and anther is one he probably purchased, or they both may be.  I think they have to send back the prototypes after a little while.  Mullin's also does a lot of street photography, so that may be why he tapes them up, but I have yet to understand, like Milandro said, either side of this argument.  Seems from an interview I heard from him on ƒfoton that he doesn't use his wedding cameras for street though...I could be wrong...Still...Hard to believe these are less than a year old though.  He is a busy photographer...

There is another form of duct tape out there.  Electricians Duct Tape.  It won't leave residue behind.  It's cheaper then Gaff and won't absorb like other cloth type tapes will, but I think you're probably still better off with Gaff.  It was made for what we want to use it for..

Ah...I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

I agree with you on the thieving part. Most are crimes of opportunity.......unless you are brandishing and flaunting it.

Gaffa tape leaves gunk. You can clean it with some lighter fluid but if it has hardened, it leaves a permanent color difference.

This, you know it's heavily used and not because of unnecessary abuse........ I wonder why they always have to use gaffer tape on the brand. Testing out prototypes?

I like the "goofy" iso dial too.

It's only ever unusual when it's "up side down" at moderate shutter speed settings......1/60 - 1/500.....but I got used to it and almost don't look at it anymore.

In got used to 36mp in my professional work very quickly. I have never once said to myself "Gee, I'd like to go back to 12mp." 16 feels "adequate" for personal work, family photos, etc. But I won't turn down 24mp when I can make the jump. Of course it's a small market. Medium format has been small market for a long time. But it can really deliver in the right hands.

This is a very good point. The 33x44mm sensor in the GFX is much smaller than a 41x56mm 645 format film negative and yet most of the GF lenses have max apertures equal to traditional 645 system lenses. People who already own fast XF lenses and are thinking about "going to medium format" primarily to get more subject isolation should tread carefully because the change in DOF might not meet their expectations. For those that don't love to do math, here are the GF primes and what the equivalent X system lenses would be:

    23mm f/4 = 12mm f/2
    45mm f/2.8 = 23mm f/1.4
    63mm f/2.8 = 33mm f/1.4
    110mm f/2 = 57mm f/1.0
    120mm f/4 = 62mm f/2

On the other hand, I use an X-E2 and a Mamiya 645 film camera with equivalent short telephotos. The DOF of the Mamiya 150mm f/3.5 and Voigtlander 56mm f/1.4 that use with the Fuji should be virtually identical on paper and yet the overall ability to separate the subject is not the same. The Mamiya lens has softer bokeh and film seems to be more tolerant of very contrasty and busy backgrounds (eg strongly lit vegetation), so I prefer it anytime there is enough light and the size and weight of the Mamiya is not an issue. The GFX lenses and sensor may likewise have many little differences relative to the X system that don't seem like much taken individually but add up to a meaningfully different whole.

In any case, I am happy Fuji made this camera. There are photographers who need (or want) higher resolution than APS-C can provide and I think going with 33x44 instead of FF was smart for both marketing and technical reasons.

    Heavy, but good handling.

because a focal plane shutter ( curtain) wouldn’t synchronize a flash with all shutter speeds as a leaf shutter does and, for the same reason, a maximum synchronization up to 1/125sec. would be considered a limitation in that respect. But a leaf shutter cannot go as fast as a focal plane shutter, so that has, in itself, a different set of limitations too.

Of course, when you have experienced working with the Pentax 6x7 which synchronized only up to 1/30sec ( and had only two lenses with leaf shutter  the 90 LS and 165 LS) one learns that there are workarounds but, traditionally, only wedding photographers ( which back them was not one of the main things to do for most photographers as it appears to have become now)seem to feel this limitation.

The Pentax 645 had also a curtain shutter with synchro to 1/60  and two lenses ( if I remember well) with a leaf shutter.

Of course now many use high sensitivity and want to synchronize the flash with fast shutter speeds, hence the criticism. Different style. Not mine.

Two days ago I was discussing with a friend and colleague the thing that some people seriously discuss the fact that Fuji isn’t very good (?) at ISO above 3200.

We, both old school photographers, found this utterly ridiculous.

Different way to think, old school and new school.
