Well, it's taken with a Canon EOS 70D + EF400 F2.8 IS USM II. 70,000 shots and 365 gigapixels result. Feel free to zoom in. http://www.in2white.com/ Here's the article, http://www.popphoto.com/it-took-70000-images-make-worlds-highest-resolution-panoramic-photo?dom=fb&src=SOC On my monitor, the pic looks awesome....

I like it. It makes checking out new posts much easier easier! Thumbs up! I'm not sure if there is a feature which allows members to see a list of all the thread which is being followed with a "new post" alert if there is one. That way we will know if someone has commented on top of the last, something like a personal notification for all the threads we are following...

I'm sure on it's own, the APD will not pose any WB issues. I was just surprised that there is such a noticeable difference between the standard and APD lenses. What I wanted to ascertain was whether both will produce the same results after "correcting" the WB and in this case, I can say that they aren't identical. So, it becomes a deciding factor when posed with the decision to swap to the APD version. Despite the trade offs, there is no denying that the quality of the pictures from the APD is very good.

Haha...that's one way of putting it. I'll definitely check out this boring lens!

At this point, I can live with most things about the XF56 APD. My only concern now is the WB produced by it. All opinions are greatly appreciated.

A quick update. I did a very quick (and I mean very quick) test at the vendor's shop and I found out one more thing which affects the XF56APD lens. The color balance is "warmer" on the APD version. In difficult lighting this can translate to a "yellower" pic. When I attempt to correct the WB on the APD pic, it translate to a slightly "colder" pic compared to the WB corrected standard 56 version. So, apart from the known differences, I'm adding color balance to the list of differences. Here's a preliminary conclusion. All pics SOOC (except for WB corrected), reduced in PS. XF56 APD F1.2 compared to standard XF56 version 1. Dimmer by 1 stop of light 2. Slight better contrast 3. Warmer color balance in some lighting conditions 4. Smoother bokeh 5. Slightly deeper DOF. Noticeable in most shots. 6. Perceivably "Sharper" due to better contrast. Although this may just a visual illusion. I truly apologize for the sub standard pics but what do you guys think?

Hey....the XC series of lenses is crazy sharp! I love 'em! People who think that they are inferior have obviously not used them before..... -
Ok....that's worrying.....most dealers tell me that the APD version is slow moving but they didn't say why..... You must have some pretty sharp lenses that makes you say the 56 and 135 wasn't sharp.

Don't mind if I post a link to your article Jonas. I've just read it and even though I don't use that focal length, I'm nonetheless bowled over thanks to you! Some very nice shots and lovely photos....and for the first time, we can now get "Leica" quality pics without paying Leica prices! http://jonasraskphotography.com/2015/05/25/the-fujifilm-xf-90mm-f2-review/

I often day dream about how it used to be in the past.....especially on a hot, lazy Sunday afternoon. ^_^
-
I can see what you mean....and agree. I always love the bokeh of the 135mm (FF) but never get a chance to use that focal length as usually I don't have that working space.
-
Point taken. Would I be right to assume that the APD version of the 56 will be less sharp than the non APD?
-
Thanks for your feedback. My main concern is the Phase detection AF. I'll have a chance to try it out the next few days. Will update for sure.
-
Thanks! This helps! Funny as the APD does have a deeper DOF. A bit of a trade off when it comes to blurring the background. Most unusual indeed.
-
Haha....now why didn't I think of that? There's about 5 sets available for direct swap. I'm scratching my head as I really love the XF56 F1.2 but have very little experience with the APD version. I'll be it out over the next few days when it arrives. Will update for sure....
