Any ideas which adapter is "better"? Fotodiox, Fotasy, Metabones, Novoflex? The last 2 selling for $99 and a whopping $169! Any feedback is appreciated.

It would seem like so but I've found that the lens is good enough to get good focus most times. It stood out from the rest of my other FD lenses as it displayed very little CA. I haven't had much success with the FD50 wide open. It tends to be very soft. From F2 onwards, it's more or less ok. Great pictures btw.

Nice cat.......FD200 F2.8.

For sure, the APD version isn't the light monster like the standard 56mm. In difficult lighting, the AF hunts half the time but it does lock on eventually. Overall, the APD version feels markedly slower than the standard version. However, I still manage to get quite a number of keepers and the bokeh makes it all worthwhile. After getting the hang of this lens over the past week or so, I'm pleased to say, I much prefer the picture IQ of the APD over the standard lens.

XT-1 Firmware Should go to Xpro-1 too

Oh dear..... -
Unfortunately, for modern lenses, I agree with you. I must be a fool to think that I can hand 'em down to my grand kids next time. Having said that, I don't worry beyond bickering about dust....it's everywhere. Just more obvious on Fujifilm lenses.

Yeah...you can put your fingers right in front of a 800mm lens and not see a thing. I know coz I've tried. I'm not too bothered about the front elements. It's stuff inside lens chambers which I don't like. It is very easy to see dust and fibers on or around the rear elements and these affect pictures when stopped down. Having had rear lens coating of my 85mm smeared by some fibers, I'd learnt to dislike them.

Yes, thankfully it doesn't really affect the pictures for now....can't imagine years down the road. For that matter, I always get a thrill when I zoom on the XF55-200. I can feel the gush of air in my eye from the OVF.

Welcome Daniel! Beautiful pictures in your blog!

I did the same too before I picked up the X-Pro1. Looks like the new LEICA Q is going to give the Sony a run for its money.....well, almost the same amount of money, give or take a thousand or two...

I absolutely love the files from the A7s.....it's really very good. Perhaps when processor speed moves up a notch or two......

I know what you mean. You're fortunate you have the X-T1. I'm on the X-Pro1!.....it's easier to ask my kiddo to stay still or pose!

I want one!

I saw a fibre strand on my new XF56APD. That's what prompted me to shine the torch for inspection. Naturally, I was quite mortified. I remember doing the same for my XF35 when it was new. Speckless! After a few months, I see dust and others. I don't mind taking my lenses for a cla at Fujifilm. I did that to my XF18. The problem is, after a couple of months, the problem came back again. I asked the technician at Fujifilm and all they could do was give me this look.... I was just checking if other Fujifilm owners had the same problem.

I hear you .......and I do shoot. Quite a lot actually. However, I have quite a few lenses and I always clean them after using, before putting them back into the dry box. I have EF L lenses, EF M, FD, Zuiko M and XF lenses. Among ALL of these lenses, the Fujifilm XF lenses are the most prone to attracting dust both inside and out. I spend the most time cleaning XF lenses. Since all the XF lenses are fairly new in the market, I wondered how they will age.

http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2015/06/i-dont-know-why-it-swallowed-a-fly-weather-sealed-lens-with-a-fly-inside Well.....looks like Fujifilm lenses not the only ones.

While the Sony is great, it's also more expensive.....not too sure I like to see Fujifilm getting more expensive than it is now. Just spoke to someone who jumped the wagon from Canon dslr to an A7s. 2 things, expensive glass and still can't chase his kiddos. It's the only system where he felt he had to adapt and still trying to. FF or not it doesn't matter to me but 24mpix may be good.

I bet you if there was a firmware update on your Ford's PGM-Fi for better efficiency and safety, you'd be driving down to the dealer wouldn't you? Not only free, you'd get roast coffee too. Happened to me when I was driving the factory fit Ford Laser TX3 Turbo, down under.

Just an update. I went ahead with the swap to the XF56 F1.2 APD lens. I decided to swap as I shoot mostly F1.2 to F4 with these portrait lenses. Having just owned it for a day, and having had the standard version for a little over a year now, I must say, it's a bittersweet feeling at best. What I like about the APD, 1. Bokeh. 2. Somehow pics turning out slightly "darker". 3. Somewhat "richer" in color due to no. 2, I guess, making pictures feel somewhat "denser". 4. Perceivably sharper (or I could be getting a better copy than my standard) What I miss, 1. That BRIGHT and lively pictures time and again from the standard version. 2. Lower ISO for the same shot. 3. That super bright light transmission when you shine a torch through the glass.....for inspection of course. Somehow I feel as if I took a step towards the "dark side".....indoor pictures are perceivably "darker"...having used both lenses, I can say that both of them affect the camera's WB differently. On shots that were a bit magenta on the standard, the APD version looks better without that magenta tint. However, the APD may be slightly too warm on some other scenarios. Here's a pic I took with a busy background in the garden. The way that this lens melts away background and foreground detail is just amazing. 1/4000s F1.4, ISO320. The butterfly was about half an inch and camera was about 3 feet away. So, pic is pretty heavily cropped. I'm no macro shooter so please pardon the pic.

Has anyone of you noticed that Fujifilm lenses are dust magnets? I just did a general inspection, cleaning and was horrified when I shone a LED torch through the glass! Most of my lenses are cleaned and put back in the drybox after use. My camera bags are cleaned and wiped out regularly. Dust is inside and don't even look at the focus ring grip. The etched lines on the manual focus ring is like a skin shaving collector! All lenses are bought new and was inspected similarly when new. It was speckles.
