Hello Bruce, I know the database in Pentax forum, it's quite good.
The only advice is take every lens review with a pinch of salt, since no two lenses of the same type are the same.

Hello and welcome. After having tried several, I ended up using RawTherapee (I'm on Linux).

Tenor, what lens you had on the camera while having that message? If I remember well, I had it a couple times.
Always if I remember well, I had the 55-200 mounted. I've cleaned the contacts on the lens, maybe also on the camera. I think I haven't had the message anymore.

Correct. Nowadays the fashions going on are three: sharpness, megapixels and bokeh. All of the three mean nothing, or so, about how good is a photo.

lleo got a reaction from MailerDaemon in QC failure in my brand new X-T3
I always wait some time, when I have to buy something new appeared on the market, a camera, a computer or a car. This because the first runs can always have some problems.
About the X-T3 that's my worry: being built in China it's not the same as being built in Japan.
By a hand they have been able to keep the price low because of this, but by other hand the risks of lack of QC are surely higher.
    As your camera shows.
Hope you'll solve the issue quickly.

Three completely different cameras. The X100F has a fixed lens and, unless you don't need anything more, you can go for that. However, you might find yourself in a situation you need a different lens.
So I'd go for the XT3 or the XE3. Apart the characteristics, you should go in a shop and handle both, since they're two different philosophies.

I have that lens and it's great. Really quick autofocus and I don't miss the extra stop of the 1,4

You can have nice separation and bokeh also at f/2.
I own a f/2, I owned a f/1.4 for a couple days, resold it almost istantly. It had a bad colour fringe and it wasn's sharp at all. My f/2 is way better.
Having said so, you should try more samples of the same lens, having the chance.
Not 2 lenses are the same and my ex F/1.4 was probably one of the few? Many? not being well built.

I've never been into commercial gadgets. However I bought a grip because with my X-E2 when holding it my thumb goes on the AE-L AF-L buttons. That said now it works fine.
The thumbgrip for me is absurd since if you have a flash, you have to detach one and attach the other every time you need it.
Also. With the thumbgrip mounted it's a pain in the butt turn the speed dial.

Depending on where you'd like to go visit, I'd bring the X-E3, 12, 18-55 and 55-200. You might add the 23, but those three lenses cover the entire range.
If I'll be around, I'll happily invite you for a coffee

I've checked my 23mm f/2 and it has the same sound. Though is not like that, which is hugely amplified by the mic.
It's probably the motor inside. It makes the sound also when in AF. But you can hear it only if you put your ear next to the camera.
It's a thud like a "croc croc croc".
Nothing to bother about. Compared to the old Micro Nikkor 85mm it's as silent as the deepest silence.

With Lowepro you're beyond safe. To me, it's the best brand hands down. I use an old Orion beltpack and a top load zoom. I owned a backpack and they're top products. I'd never change for another brand.

Since you said the lens has been used only three times, I guess it's new. If so, take it back to the store and make them change it.

Kate, if you don't need autofocus, go for the Samyang. I own a 12 and it's a great lens. Also. Being that wide, if you use it half close on, you don't even need autofocus: set it on infinity and everything from a short distance to the horizon will be focused.
And it costs a fraction of the Zeiss.

Good. One thing: don't trust to several threads you'll find on the net about what grease to use. When I started working on lenses I knew a guy (a wish-I-was-a-fixer) who said he used the grease #10 or 30 for helicoids, which is absolutely wrong. Too thick, the focus will almost get stuck. Use the #500 that works well in quite all situations.

That would be fine. Unfortunately there are sellers who have bought items that are not in the conditions that have been described to them, who are completely unaware that the lens has been opened, or cleaned, or used, anyways they not necessarily have to be lying.
If you get partial refund it's good, opening that lens is not a major work. Just use the right tools and get a good grease.

I've read that if updated, the HSS "hidden" mode get lost.
