Lack of sharpness is not really the issue for me. I find it plenty sharp. Its the lack of character that leaves the lens on the shelf for me.

I think the 18-55 is fine for what it is, but it is my least used lens as it doesn't have any exceptional skills/characteristics. I mostly use it for its fast auto focus during my daugthers soccer practice. With an x-pro 1! Actually works quite well.

Quite simple. An x-pro 2 without OVF. Preferably OLED evf with higher magnification. And please, the joystick!, not touch screen.

My 35 1.4 has zero to no distortion. The 2.0 on the other hand is horrid and its not very sharp wide open at its closest focusing distance. The 1.4 has none of those issues.

Exactly. I got mine really cheap. I believe they will complement each other very well.

    1. Allegedly the reason x-pro 2 has no 4K video is because of heat, yet its body is bigger than the x-t2 that does have 4K which in my world means that there is less room for heat dispersion. The hybrid viewfinder can't take up that much space, so the heat explanation seems lame.

    2. X-pro 2 has no articulating screen as it would add weight and bulk, yet the x-t2 has it and it is still a smaller, lighter camera.

    3. X-pro 2 does not charge via usb. X-t2 does. Why the difference?

I love Fujifilm, but these questions really bug me, as I really prefer the x-pro form factor, but feel I am missing out on some the cool stuff from the x-t2.

... that Fujifilm had kept the resolution at 16mp on the xp2 and xt2.
With the new processor, the high iso performance would (i believe) be out of this world and the AF would probably be even faster than now. Right now the increased resolution has given high iso performance on par with x trans 2 (some state worse). I would much rather have kept the already fine resolution and perhaps/most likely have had one of the best high iso camera available to man.

This is purely speculation, but valid at that. What are your thoughts?

Funny, how things turn out only a few of months after release where features like the joystick was highly praised. Now both the x pro 2 and x t2 seem to suck in sooo many ways :-)
Guess the moral is: never buy a newly released model till after a couple of months when the frenzy has cooled down and real life experience start to show its ugly head :-)
Guess I will stick with my excellent x pro 1 ;-)

Indeed. The more time I spend with the X-T2 the more I've come to realize that the improvements it offers over the X-Pro1 for still image quality/performance are marginal. This goes for the autofocus performance too. Yeah, it's much faster under a very specific set of ideal circumstances, but the rest of the time it falls back to a contrast detection cycle which is exactly the same speed (and accuracy) as the X-Pro1. Honestly, I think I could only recommend the X-T2 over the other cameras if you really need to shoot video (esp 4K) and need to do it with Fuji's lenses for some reason, or you have a similarly strong desire to shoot long/fast bursts.

It would be nice if the X-Pro1 had a finer grained grid of contrast AF points like the X-Pro2 and X-T2 do though (possible via firmware update but unlikely).

I'm really surprised by the fact that I don't hear about it more, and it didn't get mentioned more often in the reviews. For a while I thought that maybe I was anatomically different than most people so maybe it was worse for me, but I think the reality is that for a lot of people's style, the edges of the frame don't matter as much. When you're capturing the moment happening in the middle of the frame, who cares about the edges? It's fine for street or travel much of the time. I do portraiture and landscape work so the edges of the frame and the overall composition matter a lot to me.

I was very surprised that it wasn't improved on the XPro2 as well, though.

Does any of the other Fujinon lenses have that magic rendering the 35mm f1.4 is so loved fore?
I like my 23mm f1.4 a lot, but it has a more clinical way of seeing things. I do like sharpness, which most Fujinons offer in spades, but rendering is the most important parameter for as I do as little post as possible. I am a sucker for sooc images.

    Thanks, Adam.

The first time I have heard about improved battery life with the firmware upgrade. That sounds great! Are you shooting in High Performance mode? I know I will.

I have tested the X-pro 2 in a store where I got it to back focus alot. Meaning that it often ignored the front most element and focused on the most contrasty part of the background instead. Do you know if this has been improved with the 2.0 AF? I mean they changed the eye focus to prioritize the front most eye.

Also, is it true that you can now half press the shutter for focus and take pictures without the camera refocusing after every shot as long as you only lift your finger half way between shots? My Nikon D90 did that and I have always missed that feature on the Fujifilm cameras.

I only have the "old" lenses (14mm f2.8, 35mm f1.4, 23mm f1.4), so I am wondering how much of an improvement I will get going from the X-Pro 1.

I am still "only" using my X-pro 1, but there are so many used X-pro 2's each week here in Denmark, that makes me - I know a lot of people want to go for the X-T2 - a bit anxious as to why so many give up on their X-pro 2 so fast.

Adzman is spot on :-) Seems like you are right, it only works in manual focus. Maybe I remember wrong when I thought my x100t did in AF as well. Ah well, in manual mode is better than nothing.

Great shots, Jorge. The Dry tortuga looks fantastic. However I still find the bokeh of the 16mm a bit to busy. Besides that, the 16mm sure is a nice lens, which I have already owned. Found it to big. That's why I'm looking into the 14mm which is often very cheap used where I live. Like half price from new in mint condition. And I don't need its pseudo macro capabilities :-)

I just came home from vactioning in Skopelos, Greece where I used the 18mm end of the XF 18-55 f2.8-4 a lot and often found I needed it to be a little wider, so maybe the 14mm is to wide and the 16mm just perfect. Perhaps if Fujifilm made a smaller 16mm f2 I would be happy. Can't decide :-(

Is the 16mm better for peoples shots than the 14mm, given a lot of you say that people look funny if to close to the edge of the frame on the 14mm? Does the 16mm "distort" the same way?

The one I've ended up using myself is called Viltrox—nope, I've never heard of them before, either—and I picked them up after a fellow local X-shooter lent me his set. They're on Amazon, just search for Viltrox on whichever version of Amazon is relevant for your country. Two others I can recall were called Fotga, who make several Fuji accessories and theirs worked fine, and a set I can't remember the brand name of but their metal parts had funky red anodising, so they should be easy to spot.
I've tried five third-party sets in all and not noticed a problem with any of them, but for the life of me I can't remember the names of the other two. AF worked fine, exposure metering worked fine, all feel equally secure. The Fuji ones have  slightly nicer paint finish to them, obviously, but that's all that the premium price gives you.

I guess I should add, in the interest of fairness, that this doesn't just go for Fuji. Extension tubes are one of the easiest and cheapest accessories to make, for any mount, so there's no point buying official Canon/Nikon/Sony/etc ones, either.

My 35mm f1.4 never leaves me. My 18-55mm gets used on occasion. Bought the highly praised 16mm, but just couldn't find any use for it. I really like the tight cropped images from my 35mm. So I guess my least used lens is the 16mm. Will return it to the store. I am still considering the 23mm f1.4 as I am used to it from my x100s/t which I sold.
