Lack of sharpness is not really the issue for me. I find it plenty sharp. Its the lack of character that leaves the lens on the shelf for me.

Would be so cool with a x-pro1 profile in the x-pro2. Imagine the speed of the x-pro2 with the look of the x-pro1. Drool!

My 35 1.4 has zero to no distortion. The 2.0 on the other hand is horrid and its not very sharp wide open at its closest focusing distance. The 1.4 has none of those issues.

I often change view modes and it annoys me that I have to toggle between all those options when all I ever want to change between is two of them - EVF only and display. Would love if Fujifilm made it possible like custom screen setup to tick options on/off for views, so I can end up with e.g. my two favorite view modes only when I toggle between the options.

I wish Fujifilm would make an EVF only version of the x-pro2 with OLED instead of TFT and with higher magnification. I know alot of people find the OVF awesome, but I didn't choose my x-pro2 because of it, I chose it because of the x-pro2's form factor. I know the x-e2 comes close, but it is still to far away when it comes to build quality, shutter quality/speed/sound, joystick and display resolution. To me an x-pro2 with an EVF as close to the x-t2's EVF as possible would be a dream camera to me.

I just bought the 35mm f1.4 used, and despite the noisy AF I just love the lens. Actually I find the AF quite decent on my x-pro 1.

So, now I have the option of buying a used 23mm f1.4 to about half the price, and would really like to have it, but I wonder if the focal lengths are to close.

Would it be better to go for something wider or are there enough difference between the two to warrant a purchase?

As of now I have the 18-55 and the 35 f1.4 in my arsenal. The zoom only being used for snapshots. I like the rendering of primes better even though the 18-55 actually is quite good.

Look forward to your opinions/advice :-)

Processing speed in camera is used. And it should be blazing fast given that you can take a min. of 8 frames/sec on your x-pro2/x-t2 which are instantly compressed to jpeg.

You should. Both lenses are pretty cheap used as many people sell them when they can't find a way to use them.

Great comparison. I fully agree with your findings. And actually think they can be transferred to the other Fujinon f2's excl. the 90mm. I have just ordered the 56mm f1.2 and will be selling my 50mm f2 for the exact same reasons; that wonderful color rendering it shares with my 14mm, 35mm f1.4 and 23mm f1.4. Those lenses are simply in a league of their own.

Thanks. I'm still testing the difference and trying to get my pro2 to take images like the pro1. As someone suggested to me in this forum, I tried setting highlights, shadow and color to -1 and it has actually narrowed the difference between the two pro models. I still can't seem to match the pastel like colors of the pro1 though. Would LOVE if Fujifilm made a pro1 simulation.

    I now own the 14, 23 f1.4, 27, 35 f1.4, 50 and 18-55 kit lens.

As for magic the 35 f1.4 is a clear winner, and although the 14 and 23 f1.4 are more clinical, I find their rendering just beautiful. The 27 is sharp and very saturated which goes for the 50 f2 as well, and at first I was impressed, but the more I use them the more I find them looking over processed and digital. You know, where the contrast gets just that tad bit to black. I am seriously considering the 90mm, especially after so many of you state it has that magic rendering as well. Any samples, preferably sooc, with magic in them will be greatly appreciated :-)

Great read. I wish I was a bit more resolute. I have the 14mm, 23mm f1.4, 27mm and 35mm f1.4. Love them all. Looking for the 56mm second hand. Not APD as phase detection is disabled on that version.

I got the x-pro1 a few years back as a kinda last minute purchase (used, mint, really cheap) before going on summer holiday, and I totally fell in love with the camera - actually stating to my girlfriend; this is the best camera I have ever owned!

I love the image quality, the image character, the feel of the camera and its simplicity. Love it!

So, the x-pro2 was announced and I immediately started to drool. Wow, same feel, better AF, face detection and what not. A sure winner! Well, now I have it (bought used, mint, cheap) and for all its bells and whistles I can't seem to fall in love with it the same way I did my old x-pro1 (which I still own).

I see the extra sharpness and details provided by the increase in pixels, and the AF is great. The image quality as a whole is also great. Sharp, contrasty, punchy colors. And actually that is what I don't like about the camera. I kinda feel like it has lost that magic Fujifilm look, and now looks like what every other quality camera produces.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the image quality, I just miss that Fujifilm character of old.

I have owned an x-100s and t, still have an x-t1 and the two x-pro incarnations, and it wasn't until the x-pro2 that I started to look for that magic Fujifilm character. Am I the only one who feels like it just isn't there anymore?
