The problem with buying a secondhand digital camera is that it needs being tested in general and in particular for hot or dead or otherwise white pixels and for dust, oil spots on the sensor.

True. Which is why you need to pick up the camera in person, and should bring a laptop (with a card reader) with you.

I agree with you that buying without having the chance to inspect it first is risky with electronics. You were right not to buy that X-Pro1, I believe.

OTOH; when I bought my Canon 5D in 2010, I paid €800. I sold it again last month for €300. So that camera cost me about €100 per year, which probably is much lower than if I had bought it new.

So while buying used is somewhat riskier, it's also cheaper in the long term, in my opinion.

  2. For those who love knocking, there are filter-mountable rubber lens hoods, branded and nonames, straight and collapsible, even allowing to add filter in front of.

I used such rubber lens hoods long ago ... worked very well, but eventually the rubber hood would crack.

But I think it saved the front element of my Zeiss Sonnar 135mm back then!

Wouldn’t know why the EVF should dive you problems causing you headaches, other than it is not a “ still” picture but like any video it is a sequence of images.

I suspect it's the different light; I especially noticed it after my latest surgery. Caveat; I never tried the X-T1 or X-E2 EVFs beyond testing in a camera shop. My understanding is that they are a definite improvement over the X-Pro1 EVF.

  4. I had a chat with a Calumet salesperson while I was there, and he told me that they had taken in a relatively high number of Fuji cameras for warranty repairs, compared to other brands. Fortunately the Fuji service, at least in Germany, is good.

  5. I'd love when the Fuji cameras would allow to display the settings screen on the LCD display while using the EVF. I don't need to see the image on there (except for some macro shots where the camera is close to the ground), but it's nice to have a quick overview of the camera settings (like the AF point and such).
