  1. I have both cameras and there is a difference... when the cameras are set to AF-S. In this mode, the X-T1 acquires and locks focus when you press AF-L but on the X-T2 pressing AF-L does NOT acquire focus... it simply locks lens focus and prevents the shutter release from acquiring focus. In AF-M mode the AF-L button works the same on both cameras. Personally, I don't see why Fuji decided to make this change on the X-T2... its annoying and the reason for it escapes me.
  2. There is no evidence... just personal opinion based on conjecture and misrepresentation of the facts. Addressing my response with generalities doesn't add to the credibility of the argument and derogatory references aimed at a person don't belong in a public forum. 'Nuff said...
  3. Fact : the links you provided in an earlier post all point to Fuji Rumors web site... not Fujifilm. Fact : Fuji Rumors reported release of 4.20 and provided Fuji USA link as official announcement source. Fact : Fuji USA pulled its announcement all together without explanation. Fact : Fuji Japan announced availability/release of 4.20 Fact : Fuji Japan subsequently announced rare case issue with 4.20 and released 4.2.1 Stories about Fuji's real intentions, errors in judgement, improper testing, etc. are no more than fact less concoctions that don't serve any worthwhile purpose to those interested in practical and useful information.
  4. The Fuji Rumors web site dispenses rumors and the so called events outlined on December 14 and 15 come from them and not Fujifilm. We can only speculate as to why a Fuji USA office made the firmware announcement on December 11... but perhaps its more interesting to wonder why it didn't come from Japan in the first place. When was the last time official firmware was announced by other than Fujifilm corporate ? Its difficult to find credibility in arguments that are primarily supported by speculation, assumptions and the absence of facts.
  5. When Fujifilm Japan announced the firmware problem it explained in part "Unfortunately we have discovered that the latest firmware (Ver.4.20) launched on 17 Dec 2015 has an issue which in rare cases, when focus is set to AF-C mode, may result in the camera freezing." Sorry to hear that you're NOT one of those rare and special cases. Why some folks made a mountain out of a mole hill on this matter especially given how quickly Fuji provided a rollback solution is the real mystery.
  6. Verify that you did not unintentially move the Drive dial to any position right of S(ingle shot).
  7. If all you need are screws try making your request via email (attach pics) and ask they provide by post. Worked for me when dealing with Fujifilm Canada, no issue regarding warranty and I didn't have to be without the camera while waiting for a few missing screws.
  8. Bottom line for me is Fuji's overall track record in putting out quality firmware, especially given the frequency of firmware releases that enhance functionality and ease of use. I see no value in beating them to the ground for this... programming bugs are a fact of life and no amount of unit, integrated and regression testing can absolutely guarantee the release of perfect code each and every time. If anyone finds themselves on a shoot without a working camera as a result of this then I feel for them... otherwise we've been given the means to go back to an earlier firmware in record time. A responsive and responsible approach in my book.
  9. So a few minutes later and 4.21 is installed... software bugs happen (unfortunately) and the important thing is to react quickly to address the issue. I'm glad Fuji didn't hesitate to own up to the problem... a simple download and camera update isn't cause for anguish here.
  10. This is what's behind the "Begin Download" button on Fuji's site "http://download.fujifilm.co.jp/pub/tools/xt1zFdD1N8Z/FWUP0005.DAT"... there's only one file in this link.. For whatever reason interaction between your Mac and the Fuji web site is triggering two consecutive download requests of the same thing. Since the OS won't support two identical filenames in the same download location the second gets renamed. I'm not questioning the outcome at your end... simply saying this does not happen with Windows 7 and Firefox browser, period. Finally, my point about having multiple firmware files on the same SD card was not about keeping older versions. I keep the latest version of X-E1, X-E2, X-T1 and lens firmwares all on the same SD card in order to update other cameras or lenses from a single card.
  11. I'm not familiar with Mac but in Windows renaming files on download is either a function of the browser, a third party download tool or the operating system... not the download site. When files are renamed with an added identifier on download its to make them unique... meaning there's already one present with exactly the same name in the target download location. I've picked up dozens of firmware files from Fuji over the years and never once have had this issue of duplicate files. FYI... regardless of content (i.e., version) Fuji's firmware files are always the same size by camera body model or lens type. You need to do a byte content compare in order to establish if the files are in fact different or identical. Also, some folks don't seem to like Fuji's unique naming approach but it does have the advantage of allowing you to store multiple firmware files on the same SD card thus letting you make both body and lens updates without having to swap cards.
  12. That's one way of looking at it... but cameras, lenses and accessories are so overpriced to begin with why not look into cheaper alternatives ? Some of the Chinese stuff is very good value for the $.
  13. Not only should the second repair be at no cost to you but you should insist that they reimburse you the first repair.
  14. Guess that mid September joint announcement rumor between Fuji, Toshiba and Panasonic was groundlesss.. ?
  15. ... but that's the downside of making your own <repair>. Is Fuji likely to deny any future warranty work for your camera given that its now obvious that its been tampered with it ? In the longer term I believe that we (Fuji owners) are better served by pressing for a manufacturer fix. It isn't difficult to argue this issue of the basis of a manufacturing defect.. and more and more we are hearing that folks are gettting this repaired at no cost.
  16. Add another X-T1 owner who (had) the skin issue. The synthetic rubber parts (skin front and back + door + rubber connector cover on bottom) begin losing structural integrity and swell over time. Where glue is used, such as the rubber skins, the swelling breaks the bond with the body. I believe the root cause is bad formulation of the chemistry used in the manufacture of these parts. Fujifilm Canada repaired my camera at no cost to me and even arranged for prepaid shipping when they confirmed that not all the skins had been replaced first go around. I've owned lots of Fuji cameras and this is my first experience with this kind of issue. Time will tell if the replacements parts used in the repair have the same inherent manufacturing defect.
  17. Firmware file sizes for a particular chip (camera, smartTV or motherboard) are usually a fixed size eventhough content varies from version to version. The 'leaked' and final versions are NOT the same when doing a byte to byte content comparison. Don't know what changed from a functionality point of view but the code base is different. Bottom line... Fuji reps were honest in letting folks know that the 'leak' was not official.
  18. Please enlighten us.. how do you plan to change the firmware's version ID ?
  19. That argument suggests that RAF files coming in at almost 5 times their equivalent in jpeg 'wastes' far more memory card space...
