  1. I've been waiting for the flash to go back to the pre-April price of $175 on Amazon, but none are in stock. Has anyone heard anything about this? Only options I have is to order from Japan or used ones that are more than the MSRP.
  2. I used to have a Canon 17-55 with my 70D and although it's the best zoom lens for crop sensors, I remember it being pretty hefty. Adding an adapter would make it that much bigger with no upside since you couldn't even change the aperture. I'd sell it since it has good resale value and buy a Fuji 16-55 when it goes on sale.
  3. Hello from Seattle. I got into photography with Canon, but switched to Fuji with the XT1 early last year. I've gone through a black XT1, XPro1, silver X100S and a GS XT1, with the GS and X100S remaining now. I've also tried various Fuji lenses too but now only have the 35/2 and 18-55. In the past year I've bought and sold the following Fuji lenses: 35/1.4, 18/2, 27/2.8, 56/1.2, 10-24, 55-200. Out of those the only lens I regret selling is the 56. I really like using manual lenses and have several Rokinon lenses and vintage Helios and Olympus lenses as well. I find that shooting with Fuji cameras is so much more fun and engaging than shooting with Canon. There is nothing wrong with Canon, but I think Canikons have become stale and boring. I find the GS XT1 and X100S to be the most aesthetic pleasing cameras that I've ever seen. I plan on keeping them for a long time.
  4. Yes. I have 1 red pixel on my LCD but only if my X100S is set to manual focus with focus peaking. It goes away when I put it in AF and doesn't show up when I chimp. I think it's an unwanted byproduct of focus peaking but since it has no effect on the final product, I've learned to live with it.
  5. I had a later edition black that felt and looked exactly the same as my GSE. Whether you'll have those issues or not seems depends on when the black XT1 was manufactured.
  6. For the price of a Fuji extension tube, you can get a vintage macro lens with a mount adapter. I got my Olympus 50/3.5 macro lens and adapter for $40. With macro shooting you'll wind up focusing manually most of the time anyway.
  7. I have the ONA Brixton, Berlin II and Bowery. I think this brand has the best combination of looks and practicality. Lot of the other ones makes me feel like I'm wearing a fanny pack (who wants that?) Out of the three, the Berlin II is the only leather one and my favorite.
  8. Ona Street Prince would get my nomination. It's attractive, doesn't have a visible name tag and looks like a messenger bag. I have a Berlin, but since you don't want leather, the Ona in canvass would be perfect for your needs. https://www.onabags.com/store/messenger-bags/the-prince-street.html?color=field-tan
  9. XT1 & X100S Fuji 18-55, 35/2 Olympus OM 50/3.5, 135/3.5, 200/4 Rokinon 12/2, 85/1.4 Helios 44-2 58/2 Old lenses are great!
  10. Mine is always on too, but for the first time last week, I found blurry photos of the grey interior of my bag! About 8 shots, I think. It took me a moment to realize what had happened. I must have bumped the release while walking since I don't always turn the camera off when I bag it. So there could be a downside....
  11. Even when you have your subject in the focus point, the background scene sometimes gets focused on. This happens in AF only. It doesn't happen too often to me since I know to check before pressing the shutter, but if I give to someone else to take a picture of me, I'm out of focus half the time.
  12. I've used both 1.4 and 2 and I think 2 is at least 30% faster if I had to put a number on it. I wound up selling the 1.4 and keeping the f2. As far as the back focusing is concerned, I think it's more of a general Fuji thing than the lens. My X100S does it frequently, my XT1 occasionally.
  13. I use Gordy's leather straps on all my cameras because I like having them high on my chest too. They are stylish, custom made to whatever length you want, and very reasonably priced. http://www.gordyscamerastraps.com/
  14. I'd recommend the 35mm f2 over the 27. Having used both, I think 35 is more versatile and have better IQ while not being that much bigger. It's also WR, which will come in handy if you're doing street photography.
  15. It seems the UHS-II cards are slower than the UHS-I cards if you use it at the older format. My Lexar Pro 300mb 2000x SD card was considerably slower than my Sandisk Extreme Pro in my XPro1 and X100S. I originally bought it for my XT1 and it was blazing fast - much faster than the Extreme Pro - but I sold the XT1 and kept the card. The moral of the story is buy the card that matches the capability of the camera. Otherwise you're wasting money and even getting less performance.
  16. I've sold my 10-24 and bought a Rokinon/Samyang 12mm f2. The IQ is comparable and the size and weight compliments Fuji cameras very well. It sells for about $300, but is a manual focus so if you can get a 14mm for $400, I'd go with the 14 IMHO.
  17. You have to get the 18-55 for these reasons: 1. It's an excellent lens with very good IQ and size. 2. You can find excellent copies or even new ones for $250. (My local craigslist has been inundated with copies from a seminar where they gave away an XT10 with 18-55.) 3. It's the only way you can find out where your focal length sweet spot is. After going through about a dozen lenses, I have the 18-55, 35 1.4, and Rokinon/Samyang 12 on my XPro1. I had the 10-24 too, but sold it because it was too bulky for me. Hope this helps.
  18. I think the 56 f1.2 would round out your kit perfectly. I've found that my favorite pictures are consistently taken with the 56. It has reach without being too long.
  19. There's always a risk of getting a dud, hence the lower prices. Having said that, I've bought many lenses from Hong Kong through Ebay and never had any issues with quality or service. Stick with the main sellers and you should be fine. Always use your credit card, though, just in case.
