umijin reacted to Aswald in WR, how relevant is it?
Well, for one thing, WR is a bit like a double edge sword. Whatever goes in needs to be "professionally" removed. It's not a 100% seal.

In that respect, you do need to care for WR lenses, a little differently at that.

I think that WR should not even be an "option". It should be a standard feature on all lenses and not have a price differential. We're all guilty of driving this market by merely discussing it!

It's just like smartphones. To me, all smartphones should be WR. We shouldn't have to worry about dropping one in the wash momentarily and face a static screen thereafter. For all the technological advancement they boast, a little moisture and poof!

    Food for thought.

I think it is a bit overrated by most people. Regular lenses can withstand some abuse pretty well is my experience.
However, if it comes in as a bonus, or for a slight extra, I'm in. It is not just protection from rain, but also from dust and sand. On windy locations around a beach, that is definitely a useful feature. But I have never abstained from shooting pictures with my kit at those same locations.

Once I had to stay 1.5 months in Kolkata, India, where the humidity was off the charts, worse than what I have seen even in Florida. I remember my glasses turning completely white from the condensation every time I was leaving the hotel. The air itself was soaked in water.

First of all, changing lenses in this environment would be suicidal for modern camera. But even if the lens stays put on, you need WR, and you still need to put your camera in a plastic bag when you leave air conditioned room.

And even after these precautions I would not be surprised if something would corrode after prolonged use in your camera.

Anymore I get the impression Fuji isn't interested in the X system any more.  The trend is the GFX.  If it isn't GFX they don't want to bother.  The GFX is impressive but out of my league and something I really don't need.  I do love my XT-2 and have the lenses I need for it.  I believe it is time to spend elsewhere.  Education or travel maybe?

umijin reacted to milandro in Seen any new and “ interesting " accessories for the Fuji system? (or general purpose ones)
    Fellow FR forum members,

During occasional phases of boredom I like to look around the internet seeking accessories ( the weirder the better) for my camera system. Not that I would, necessarily, buy everything but I really like to treat myself to something useful or simply nice to have.

In so doing I have collected a few useful things but I still like to be informed on the things which inventive people come up with every now and again.

So while doing this I found this wooden thumb grip and soft shutter release, I didn’t buy it because I don’t have this particular camera but I supposed that someone else would have liked it so I brought it to your attention.

wouldn’t it be nice if  you were to do the same? This is a platform for this kind of things. Please feel free to add as many and weird possible accessories, ideally meant only for the Fuji system but also other ones.

umijin reacted to jlmphotos in Is the Fugi XT1 really water proof, and the 18-135 lens waterproof???
The Fuji is water RESISTANT.  Meaning you can get it wet with rain and snow and it "should" be ok.  The lenses with the WR designation are also water-RESISTANT.  None of the equipment will survive a dunking of course.
With that being said I used my X-E1 and 18-55, of which NEITHER was WR in rain, snow, sleet and around salt water.
I've used my 18-55 and my X-T1 in the same weather; no problems.  My grandson smacked my 18-55 and X-T1 with a full load from water canon last summer directly at the lens and again everything still functions.  Though, I did have to remove the lens and dry the water that seeped in between the lens and the body!  No big deal.
I do believe these Fuji's, as I'm certain other brands are rather robust.  Even though I love Fuji I won't be a fanboy and say that only fuji will be this rugged.
I just spent ten days in and around salt water, sand, and rain with zero ill-effects on ANY of my lenses or my X-T1. I have the details in my blog.

Would be the perfect lens for an WR body that's already out there, hopefully. :-p

Hopefully, it will the perfect lens for a WR body we haven't seen yet. The narrower front would be perfect (well, better) for a hybrid OVF/EVF. But I don't see me selling off the 35/1.4 to get one for my X-E2.

I really don’t think that the dimensions or weight of these two lenses will be a game changer to prefer one lens ove the other.

I am sure that when this lens will officially come out, lots of comparative tests will sprout everywhere to compare image quality, performance at fully open aperture ( sometimes one wonders why do some people even bother buying lenses that can close the aperture since all they want is shooting fully open), and the autofocus performance, both in terms of speed and in terms of noise.

The fact that one is weather resistant might just be a slight advantage but not if ( like in the example given above) this is going to be the Ideal companion of an NON weather resistant body as it is with the X-T10.
