indoorsman's Achievements

  1. That's an evf option you can change in the settings. Dark/ bad lighting really doesnt benefit from using your EVF to figure exposure. If anything its better to not judge exposure using the evf in these conditions as then it becomes much more difficult to focus and view the scene in the first place. If you are shooting in tough lighting conditions, I'd be locking in ISO (on my XE-2 I stick to 800 or less) and shutter anyway, those will not change in the same scene shot to shot much. After shooting, either post process or if you prefer the OOC jpegs, use the in camera RAW developer and push the exposure up as needed. The images are much cleaner this way, I never enjoyed high ISO shot noise and color rendition, it's pretty ugly for the most part.
  2. The most obvious oddity of the new firmware - holy font kerning batman! The font sizing and kerning is just a little funky....
  3. This is a big update, i had to crack open the new manual as there is a lot packed into the menus now. Just wanted to pass along a few observations while shooting with the 27mm (this was from last night, so imagine: indoors, incandescent lights, etc) The addition of zone focus is largely what makes this a brand new camera, as others have noted. It takes the multi (area) focus setting in previous firmware, but the camera restricts itself to the pdaf points on the sensor. It now (finally!) focuses generally like it always claimed (.05s) - i would say that on average, it actually is faster than single point focus for the following reason: the camera reacts like it uses multiple pdaf points at same time to aid focus (this shows on the screen as several focus point boxes, and those boxes are really not a gimmick). So a particularly tricky auto-focussing scenario with low contrast or a single line becomes much easier for the camera because it can pull in much more information to arrive at a focusing solution. Continuous and zone focus work well in these (not great) lighting conditions also. This is a big deal - continuous focus is not largely a fake switch on this camera anymore. Going to wide area focus with continuous focus caused the 27mm lens to rack focus back and forth, so it appears that in wide focus the camera does not attempt to give preference to the pdaf points. So, I would recommend generally sticking with the zone focus setting.
  4. Since we are talking about the X-E3, not the existing X-E2s coming in January (which from all the rumors, appears to not be all that different from the X-E2): 1. Faster thoroughput of the sensor (The X-PRO2 reveal will . This would improve significant functionality in the camera such as continuous drive, video, evf quality/ refresh, and evf focus magnification during manual mode. If we could get the thoroughput in this camera on the order of something like the panny GH4, it would take this camera to a wider level. 2. I second an earlier post in the need for improving the accuracy of the in-focus edge highlighting. It needs to be more discerning in larger apertures. I find that I need to half-press the shutter to get out of it and confirm focus at times. 3. The on/off switch and shutter need a rethink. The switch is a little too small and mushy. The shutter is pretty good, but i'd prefer more positive feedback at the end. 4. The grip is terrible. I don't know if you can fix it much out of the box. I have a hunch that the camera is made this way to not scare off consumers and that Fuji always plans to have a add-on grip for those who really use the camera. 5. Battery. I don't think it's worth the energy (hah) to really go on further with this one however, since they continue to use the same one in newer cameras. So maybe the design specs of the XPRO3/XT2/XE4 should include this. 6. Bigger EVF, it's somewhat cramped for manual mode. Much more important than increasing resolution.
