jerryy got a reaction from BobD in Canon EF 400 f5.6L on my X-T4 with the K&F EF-FX A/F adapter
Welcome to the forum.
That is a really good lens, hopefully it will give you many great images.
You did not mention which K&F adapter are getting, they make several, but not all of them have the aperture control ring on them. Since that lens does not have an aperture ring, the price for the adapter with the ring (if you want it) is not much more than for the one without the ring.
I am mentioning this so that if the menu does not allow you to change f-stops for that lens - adapter combination (the lens will stay wide open for every shot), it is still possible to get it to work.
Best wishes.

I've ordered the AF version without aperture ring as I found it at a very good price (new). I'm reasonably confident I can make aperture changes in the camera menu however if that turns out to not be the case I'll probably sell the adapter and get the other version, or possibly the Fringer, with the ring. TBH with the weather/light conditions we've had in the UK for some time now I'll probably find shooting at a constant f5.6 obligatory.

Its a little more than just the metadata - there is also a 13MP jpg stored in the RAF file - if the RAF file was to be updated I'd probably prefer another copy.

It is far more likely something that was overlooked rather than being deliberately sacrificed. These camera are computers connected to lenses, anticipating every outcome to every option is hard to do even when the number of options is very limited. Every camera manufacturer issues firmware update to fix unforeseen issues.
Fujifilm does listen to requests and feedback. Today, they updated their X-App, the app for controlling some cameras from smartphones and tablets. The update removed needing Location always on. This is something many people requested.
Depending on which region you live in, Fujifilm lists ways to contact them. If you dig far enough, you can find the contact information for each region, including Japan, here is one for U.S. based customers:
https://fujifilm-x.com/en-us/repair-and-product-support/#contact_us
Try writing a letter explaining the issue, along with a means to fix it (have a menu option to turn it on or off) that lets everyone use it as they wish. If enough people raise the issue, making changes gains priority over other options.
I suggest politeness; conspiracy laden rants, regardless of how well intentioned or fact based, will not get your message warm receptions.

What do you mean by open it?
Usually after downloading the update, one puts the sd card in a card reader attached to the computer and uses the Finder to drag the update file over to the sd card’s icon and drop the fie on the icon. This copies the file to the outermost level for the card. Then eject the card, put it back in the camera and start the camera part of the update process.

At first I thought 'it is a sparrow', but it could also be a finch.

Why not use Image Capture? It would seem to have the same functionality as Finder for importing images and its built-in on your MacBook.

December 22, Winter Solstice Day.
Winter is getting ready to make the days longer, the nights shorter and presumably both colder. Autumn was seen at a postal office trying to take care of a forwarding address issue.

MacOS Image Capture utility might be your answer.
Its a software thing - the camera doesn't appear as a remote drive but you can transfer images to the MacBook.

Still in the Gemini constellation, but moving to Castor’s ankle (the star Propus region)...
(Screen capture from Stellarium*, with the added Propus — Eta Gem annotation)
This region has a lot to see, super nova remnants, star clusters and nebulas:
