Hi! Anyone who has the X100V - I'm stoked to get the new camera, but I realise that the manual focus ring is smooth but makes a scratchy sound when turning (See attached video).

No functions affected but I don’t remember this happening with my previous X100 camera... does anyone have the same problem, or perhaps I have a lemon?

    thanks in advance.

I got my X100V recently. Lucky - no "grinding" - only it gets very quick very hot. I think by switching off as many of the el. buttons and functions as possible helps a bit with the heating issue. Will not buy any new camera so soon again, the X100V still suits me as all the other X100's did before. The new lens is great! Sharper and not much loss of Fuji's legendary  "lens fidelity"!

I will probably replace my X70 to this one. Been waiting for tilt screen on X100 series or X-E series.

I have the X100V and the tilt screen seems to be very practical. It is very thin, but the feel is not flimsy at all! Well done!. The V becomes realy warm, we'll see how it will do when it is realy hot outside! (I live in very warm climate). For longer video sequences I have problems (for videos I'll buy a small Panasonic LX10). But the lens is great, pritty much sharper than the X100F without much loss of the shade and color transitition (fidelity). The film-simulations are great for JPEG fotographers too. The CCP_CV_19 lock down gets slowly lifted here, so I will be able to find more about this new device I hope they don't ditch the X-E series and bring 2021 a X-E4. If you don't need a leafshutter, then the X-E3 is a  very good choice! How ever, Fujifilm is a small company and to many models in the shelf could become a problem. I'd understand this. Regards from SE-Asia.

I just read the new specs on the X100V to see if it would tempt me.  Some nice features but not nearly enough to make me replace my X100F.  My old X100S, converted to Dual Spectrum for mostly infrared shooting is a bit creaky but still OK so I will carry on with my it too.

I regret having sold my X100F!! The X100V is unusable for somebody who shoots a lot and in warm climate! I'm very much disapointed! Never again Fujifilm! I feel absolute scammed! The Fujifilm management must have been completely drugged to release such a piece of crap! This comes when designers have the say instead of technicians! Yes I'd have loved a weather sealed body, but not with this issues, which obviously can't be fixed! NOOOO GOOOD FUJI!

This Sunday I would like to investigate a crucial question. It’s probably the questions of all questions. The Fujifilm X100V looks better in silver or black? ;) I have a theory I will explain later… but first the rankings. I…

I had all the s/t/f in silver but I regret having ordered the V (also in silver) since it seems to have a lot of issues!

The x100V advertises itself as weather sealed, but I got a large speck of dust in the optical viewfinder after the second time of using it. This makes me question it's weather seal capability.

At this rate, it will more likely to get more dust in there. Would Fujifilm cover cleaning out the dust under the general warranty (USA based) ? So I could have it cleaned before the 1 year manufacturer warranty is over.

I'd definitely send it back as a warranty case .... and don't waist time! Seems together with the other issues the X-100V was not ripe to be released at all!

Hello! New member here from Kathmandu, Nepal up from the Himalaya mountains. I don't own a Fujifilm camera yet. I use the Olympus Pen-F for my daily walkabout, street shooting and a Nikon D500 for action and wildlife. I’ve always been interested in getting a fix focal length camera and the X100 is just so good looking, as is the Pen-F.

I’m considering getting the upcoming X100V when they come out next month but don’t want to clutter up too much gear so maybe sell the Pen-F? But then I love the little Pen-F and am quite sentimentally attached to it. Do you think owning both the Pen-F and the X100V would be overkill? Maybe I’ll love both? Anyone else here also own both the Pen-F and a X100 camera, what would you do? Hmm....dilemmas! 😊

Stick to the Pen-F and wait! The X100V has some issues, like getting hot and grinding noises when focusing manually!

  7. My take on the issues: I have not received my X100V yet due to the CCP-CV-19 quarantain lockdown here in the Philippines. How ever, owning the X100s/t/f before and now hopefully the V as my EDC camera for for almost everything from street to landscape to documentary or portraits, I'm quite surprised Fujifilm letting out a camera which is def. NOT RIPE to hit the market! This way Fujifilm is jeopardizing everything, the name as a top quality brand, superiour enigneering and manufactoring etc. What happen here is "f....ing" customers! This must be punished! I just cancelled the order for a X-T4 and some lenses and will wait how they handle the issue. I might even change the brand. Regarding the heating - yes I also wished a weathersealed body and expected the new X100V to be considerably bulkier therefore, what would not have caused any harm. Now they have the same problem as Sony had with there compact models. This is miserable engineering, marketing and a very, very bad move from Fujifilm. Same about the grinding issue which is obviously not just a quality controll but a more serious engineering problem. So let's see what they will do about it. To be honest, I expect total ignorance - but would eat my words if they should act properly!

  8. Since I bought my first x100T, later the F, I started to use my other camera stuff less and less. Today I exclusively use my X100F. My wishes for the X100V: WR, 2 card slots, USB-C, 100 ISO, 4K and may be once a crispier F 1.4 lens (+ WCL and TCL which I use a lot since I do from landscapes, street, travel doc. to nudes all with the X100F!). Sure and of course a fix of all the small quirks .... what we call model-care .... btw. LOVE THE LEAF SHUTTER!

  9. You need to know for what you want to use your camera! I have a X100F and a junky DSLR (which I'll dump in due time and buy a rugged APS-C or 4/3 pocketable camera, but where to find). The X100F is my EDC (wish it'll be WR) and I like the leafshutter with its great flash-synchronisation. Once I'm older and more settled,  I'll wish to switch to medium format (GFX) - a dream of mine!

  10. I use a X100 T/F with both the WCL and TCL since 2014. How ever if you want to have a wider choice of your lenses you have to switch to interchangeable lens models. It makes no real sense to ad more CL's to the X100 series, also since the attched fixed f 2.0 lens has its limits! May be once we'll see a new X100 WR (wide and rugged) what could be a blast for street fotographers!

  11. I pick up this relativ "dead" thread and ask:

What should the next X100(G) have or what could be abhandoned?

I use (SE-Asia, Europe) my X100F (before X100T) as a EDC in often very harsh conditions as a street fotographer, motor-biker, sailor and extreme hiker. WR and 4K video would be great and of course may be once a f 1.4 lens along with real 100 or less ISO!

I'm also concerned about dirt/dust infiltrating and get on the sensor! Does anyone have issues in this regard?

    Cheers from SE-Asia!

  12. I am actually waiting until Fujifilm release a WR version of the X100 series. Besides, I would lose more money than I can handle if I sell my X100T now, and upgrade to the X100F.

My strategy will fail of course if Fujifilm never decides to release a WR X100 version ;)

Yes - it seems I'm not alone with the WR wish! I have and use the X100F as my EDC camera and WR would be realy helpfull!! How ever it seems also other brands neglect the WR issue in the small and compact sector! A pitty!

  13. I think there will be first a X-pro2s with marginal improvements (may be also 4K) since Fujifilm and Panasonic put a lot of resurch efforts into a new sensor, which I believe is not yet ready. The X-pro2 after all is a good tool if you like the rangefinder system (I love it).

As a outdoors man (hiking and sailing) I'd also love to see of course again weather resistant/sealed bodies for both the future x100 and the X-pro series with at least a tiltable screen (so practical), 4K video and better battery life. In body shake compensation (on the X-pro) would be a plus, faster AF as well.

  14. well, I am not in the market for something like this but there are a few Leica customers whom obviously are. The reasoning is that ( from wikipedia):

    "

Leica claim that the camera delivers 100% sharper images than monochrome images derived from a camera with a color sensor (of comparable megapixels).[4] The camera is able to alter the captured image to apply three toning effects (called sepia, cold, and selenium).[4]

The achieved sharpness is due to the lack of a color filter array, thus avoiding the process of demosaicing by capturing the true luminance value of each photosensor.[4] The removal of the color filter array also means that no incoming light is filtered, making the sensor more light sensitive, which explains the high native ISO of 320."

    https://us.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/LEICA-M-MONOCHROM

They seem to think that this camera is worth the best part €6,000

Yes Milandro, I have seen B&W pictures (digital and prints) from the Leica Monochrome, and they are stunning! But a Leica is out of reach for me! But thanks for replying!

  15. Well, I understand a "hacked" color sensor is not the same as a B&W sensor designed from scratch. There are many fotographers out there who shoot a lot in B&W. I'm quite sure Fujifilm is monitoring this special field (and MaxMax) of fotography very carefull. A B&W sensor should outperform any other color-sensor of the same size re. dynamic range, light sensitivity and noise. Sure for the time beeing I use my X100T for B&W and color - what else! (Ah yea - sometimes I take my old Yashica film camera out, to take some B&W's)

  16. I stick for the time beeing with my X100T and FZ1000 until there is something out which is a real game-changer re. results. Sure 24MP is nice to have (large prints or crops) and also all the nice things like touchscreens etc. but it can wait. The hybrid systems (foto/video) will develop further fast and may be Fujifilm brings soon a monochrome camera with its great sensor and processor, this would be a blast! A X100Monochrom!!

  17. I am taking pictures since almost 40 years a lot, often when raining. Although i have never owned a weather resistant lens/camera until recently i never ever had a problem. When reading in this forum and blogs some people say WR is a big plus, others say it is overrated. Thus, my question: Who ever had problems with a non-WR or a WR-lens when raining?

I use a X100T and a FZ1000 and do my best to protect them from dirt, dust and rain with simple means, beeing a lot outdoors. I will certainly upgrade to the X100F or its succeeder just because I love this camera, but I'll also buy a WR (my be the comming GX9 from Panasonic or the X-T2??) unit as well. I think it is stupid not to use WR knowing you are often in the rain and dirt. Best protection and experience in this field has Pentax, but they are miserable in video.

  18. My thoughts: I have the feeling most of the camera manufacturers will have to "streamline" there range of models due to the enormeous development costs, limitted availability of sensors and strained markets. I'm also a lover of rangefinder cameras and have a X-100T (ev. soon a X-100F)

but I find myself using more and more often my mobile-camera as well for documenting etc. plus a Panasonic FZ for videos (waiting for the LX200 if ever ...). This means less model varieties and less often new models, BUT more electronic upgrades! We have 3 clear sides of the trade - the expensive high end and professional side with the FF and medium formats and the consumer market which tends to shrink and my be the market for real rugged outdoor cameras. The competition DSLR's vs. mirrorless will intensify. For myself, I notice, as a amateur travel-/streetfotographer, outdoorman, trekker, bushcrafter, sailor the need of a smaller and rugged camera with at least a 3/4 sensor a moderate zoom and 4K.
