I purchased the XE2s and it is a great camera.
However I did not own a previous XE camera

I do not think the XT2s is meant to appeal to XT2 owners
    Or even XPRO2 owners

It will be there for people who do not own these cameras and at the time of purchase require the latest modern gear
they will compare and contrast  to other camera manufacturers
put yourself in the position of the camera salesman trying to flog off an old model

    Good morning,

Africa Safari requires long lens - my present set up is Fuji X Pro 2 with 100 - 400 lens and then 2 times converter when taking small birds

    then a 27mm lens for the XPro2
Panasonic DMC LX5 for landscapes etc.
Very careful about changing lens in the great dusty outdoors

However if I want to carry a second interchangeable lens camera will take the X E2s with the 18 to 55 zoom then no lens changes are needed

Went for a couple of years with the X S1 which was a great solution
My route from XS1 to the ZOOM 100 to 400 passed through the XC 50 to 230 which I did not regret

Will be off to the Pearl of Africa in a month or so to get away from the English Winter
Bird watching is amazing at Entebbe

Hope you find your optimum solution

Taking the photo and having the experience is for me more important than the photo!

Well I don't always use one of the fuji film sims, and I quite frequently farm out a .tiff to a different app (eg on1 photo) so for me, raw is a must

If you're making a decent job of raf sharpening (and I daresay you are) then IMO you'll best the sooc jpegs in a crop scenario

If you're happy with sooc fuji colours, not cropping, not pixel peeping and doing a good job of exposure in camera, shooting scenes that don't surpass the DR of the jpeg engine, then there's less need for the raw.

Best to shoot both imo and decide later, even if later means making different jpegs from the in camera convertor

Good to share thoughts, David. I had a tough time shooting at the 400mm end of the fantastic 100-400. Desperately looking for a field scope when I was using that! You must have very steady hands....

Are people still into bridge cameras? I'm not sure but it would seem to me most brands are not doing well in that sector. Once OPPO successfully get their zoom smartphones going, it'll probably spell the end of things for bridge cameras.

Location wise this is now a no brainer

    bright shiny XT10 bundled with the 18 - 55 XF or 16 - 50 XC and then save up for 100 - 400 lens

trouble getting a second hand fixed - ha - and camera second hand gear is over priced on the belief people look after the gear!
there is always a reason for sale! - and with fuji it is not quality

I am not going to drop it intentionally, scruffed the screen on my xpro 1 by letting it sit on the car shelf, was not happy at my carelessness, but won't cry as i use the viewfinder!

if a do bust it its time for an upgrade!

I feel my X-S1 doesn't seem to be very popular but I was fortunate to purchase a very late model with none of the inherent faults and love it to bits and still learning from it.

XT-10, X-Pro1, X-A1, X-S1 are all in the pool of cameras used, but the XT-10 is the only camera I normally carry

As others have said - getting the effect you want with the XC kit lens can take some planning.

With a longer lens and/or one with a wider aperture it's easier - but you can get the effect with any lens, and even with a camera-phone, if you set the shot up right.

First - set shutter speed to Auto A

Set the aperture to manual - and use the wheel on the back to get the widest aperture (lowest f number).

Then set it up so that your subject (flowers in your test shot - but this effect is normally used for portraits) is fairly close to the camera AND the background is as far away as possible.  Extend the zoom to get the composition you need - try moving back and zooming in as needed - so that the subject looks close and the background is in the distance.

With your kit zoom used for a portrait shot - you'll need to have a person at head and shoulders distance away (or head only).  You need a longer lens and wider aperture to get a whole body shot with a blurred background.

    That should do it.

Background blur is a result of using a narrow depth of field (the range that is in focus) - and the wider the aperture, the longer the lens and the bigger the sensor - the narrower the depth of field.  Your sensor size is fixed - so play with zooming the lens and always use the widest available aperture (lowest number).

A head and shoulders portrait at mid to max zoom/widest aperture with a background waaaaay back (like a line of trees in the distance) will do what you want with the kit zoom.

As another example - a mobile phone has a tiny lens and short focal length - so the subject needs to be right up close and the background way back and lighting bright to get the effect - but any camera can achieve the effect you're after ..... it's just much easier with a long/wide lens.

Presently our cameras are evolving quicker than they are ageing, they are discarded before wearing out, bad news for manufacturers but will we have a plateau shortly?

The images are good, like a movie shot on green screen, it has its place, but not in my photography, and if I was buying an image for the wall, yes, my pictures are memories, framed for my wall, RAW to JPEG to Print or SOOC

I have the XS1 & X A1 and would buy an updated XS2 with faster auto-focus = imho the XS1 is a great all in one camera for travel in Africa ( & other spots )  and without a long lens the system cameras do not replace it = would love to take pictures of birds in flight = when I tried the HS50EXR the birds were no closer when you compared the photos with those of the XS1
