  1. I'm not a concert photographer, just a fan in the crowd with a camera hoping to get some photos for prints to hang in my office. Here are a couple from the last show I attended with the X-Pro1 and XF 56mm F1.2 R.
  2. Over at the DPReview forums there is a gentleman that indicates the issue appears to be hardware and the US center has fixed them (link). Not sure what to believe, but I no longer have my money invested in the camera, but I am interested in the outcome as I had three X-Pro2's with the black frames, off/on error, and WiFi issues.
  3. The X-Pro2 is faster to acquire focus; no doubt about it. That said, I have had three units that I would not consider using for a paid job and have finally taken a refund. I really like the image quality I got from it and will come back to it in time when the camera and firmware matures. In the meantime, I picked up an X-Pro1. It is something I always avoided as it was said to be too slow (and it is compared to other things; a Canon 5D Mark III, and X-T1). I was very frustrated with the X-Pro2 and the issues I had as a foolish early adopter and the foolish decisions I made in buying into the advertisement non-sense. I still come back to the X100T as one of my favorite cameras to shoot. Well, I decided @ $499 U.S., why not the X-Pro1 while I wait. I know it is slow, I compared it to an X-T1 some years back, but I like the experience with the X100T and I liked the X-Pro2 most of the time. Turn off chimping (Image Disp = Off / on the second wrench menu) on the X-Pro1, and it performs quite well. Image quality is still second to none. I still shoot with Canon gear and the 5D Mark III is a better camera, but I love shooting with the Fujifilm gear and the X-Pro1 is my new favorite over the X100T (that and my 17year old daughter stole the X-T1 from her old man). As far as image quality goes, I need to do some prints, but I think it is a wash. X-Pro2 OOC ACROS JPEG - XF35 F1.4 @ F1.8 X-Pro1 processed in Lightroom from RAW, XF35 F2 @ F2.0 With the problems I encountered with the X-Pro2, I say hold on to that X-Pro1 a while. Wait a few months for the X-Pro2 to mature and give her a go. I don't think it will make you a better photographer. You'll do that yourself if you enjoy your gear and learn how to use it (and your image above tells me you got it working for you).
  4. I've been through three X-Pro2's with various issues. The turn off/on being the most common while shooting and I finally gave up and elected a refund. The WiFi issues to Instax and locking up the camera to the point of having to remove the battery occurred on all. The final one, rattled off 4 shots it, camera locked up, no error, would not shut off. Had to remove the battery. Decided this camera is not yet worthy of the Pro in the name. I do hope it is firmware... And no, I do not think the battery is the issue. I used a Fujifilm battery exclusively in two of the three X-Pro2's I had. All the while I contacted Fujifilm New Jersey U.S.A. and they were respectful and understood. The last thing he said to me is Fujifilm Japan was aware of the issues, but nothing since. I can't recall where, but someone said firmware was coming (facebook or other forum), but I am not convinced it is firmware. I tend to think there may be a problem with the shutter mechanism, mainly because one of the Steve's at Fujifilm NJ mumbled it and I picked up on it. He just said it was possible, but he did not know for sure. I figured the third one would be the charm. I desire the 1/250th sync speed, the 1/8000 mechanical shutter, and I do believe Fujifilm will address the issues. I will try again in the coming months and watch these forums to see if the chatter dies. I sold one of my 5D Mark III bodies to pre-order the X-Pro2 and that would have had me set with two bodies on the Fuji-X system and I would have been content. I ended up picking up an X-Pro1 to compliment my X-T1 and WOW has it improved since I first handled one... and it was a great price. When you consider what it goes for now, it is a steal of a deal. Day after I received it, took it to a portrait session for a prom party and pretty much used the X-Pro1 for 80% of the shots with the 35 F1.4... Used some off camera flash and it was killer. Paid for itself that night and some. I did not RTM first, but it only took a minute for me to figure out I had to use the D-pad and not the rear dial to adjust the shutter in 1/3 stops. This will be fine until the X-Pro2 issues get resolved... and I will not part ways with the old X-Pro1. Glad I was late to that party.
  5. I would return the camera. I had many issues with my first X-Pro2, on my second and the only issue I have is with WiFi to an Instax SP1 printer. I will be calling Fujifilm next week as I am back from spring break but did use the camera extensively on holiday with no lock-ups.
  6. Don't notice any heat issues with mine, but I am using the MHG-XPRO2 grip.
  7. I've never used the feature on any camera I own.
  8. It took a little adjustment for me to get used to it, But, I use the rear display to lift and turn and it works well, it changes on the display real time My complaint was a little glare through the window for ISO made it hard to confirm.
  9. Does not look like they fixed the Instax SP1 printing issue or my general WiFi issues... Still... something. I'll take it. I don't have the immediate need for WiFi. Do hope it gets fixed soon.
  10. I can say the Transcend cards work great - http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-64GB-Class-UHS-II-TS64GSD2U3/dp/B015E8K868/
  11. I got tired of waiting. 30 day return policy here; mine went back for a refund the day after I first encountered the black frames issues. My old X-T1 works fine. Always loved my experience with the X100 series and loved the X-Pro2, but it had the frustration factor. I enjoy the X100T and the X-T1 and want to take those out with me over the 5D Mark III and I was hoping the X-Pro2 could be the one that had me finally letting go the heavy gear. No, not yet... it has to be reliable and I have to trust it.
  12. I got the black frame issue yesterday. I was going through my images and 2 of the 100 or so photos I took were black frames. I was photographing groups of kids so I would pan from one group to another and take shots at an easter egg hunt event. The camera in on it's way back for a refund. Way too buggy. Not sure firmware will fix that and no chancing it as my 30 day return policy is coming near.
  13. Over two weeks with the camera right now and no more settings issues. Only issue is it locks up on WiFi to the Instax SP1. Unable to turn off the camera and must remove the battery. Wondering how many are experiencing the issue? Debating sending it back.
  14. I used IMG tags (link to help you out) to a direct link to a jpeg on my flickr site.
  15. I like the OVF with primes. EVF with zooms like the 55-200 or the 10-24 (I have not used the 55-200 with the X-Pro2 yet, but I am sure it would be EVF all the way). Of course I am an X100T user. Have not used the X-Pro2 much yet.
  16. Originally, I broke my old 35mm F2 and was going to try and get the Sigma Art 35 (but it was sold out everywhere); someone talked me into the X100S. I now have the X100T. I parted ways with a 14mm Samyang in favor of the 10-24 with the X-T1... and more recently, the 135L for the 90... and that was a harder sell for me, but the lighter weight was needed as I like both lenses. I do not use the battery grip with my X-T1; just the optional XL hand grip. It's nice to take a lighter weight camera out. I did speak with Fujifilm support today about the issues I had with the 35 F1.4 on the X-Pro2. They asked that I keep tabs on it. Folks, call them if you have issues. They have been excellent on the phone in the two cases I have needed to talk to them. This is the US New Jersey location.
  17. I suspect there were rules in the NDA for those using the camera. I don't think there as any RAW processing program available and given it was a pre-release firmware they had, I suspect it did not perform as fast and some features were missing from the camera. I have not seen any follow-up videos from any of those I am following (Kevin Mullins, The Camera Store TV, Bert Stephani) since the camera came out. I was interested in what Zach Arias had to say; so far he has been silent (though he usually quiet on the social media front). I just took mine out to see if I could get the black frames or feel any heat.. Single shot AF and fired off a few hundred shots (with the OVF and 35 F1.4)... Surprised the full battery only went to 83%... I guess I am lucky (so far), no black frames. May go out and try it again with the Nissin i40 on 1/256 power and burn some more battery in a bit. Hopefully this firmware comes out soon and addresses my concerns; it may introduce new headaches though. A little more patience from me is what is needed. I, for one, enjoy the size and weight of the Fujifilm kit. I already own a full frame Canon and the reason I got this Fujifilm stuff was due to being but on weight restrictions after an elbow injury else I probably would have been content with the X100 series. Cannot give up my full frame gear as there are things it can do that mirror-less can't (70-200 for basketball and the 100L 1:1 macro and off camera lighting is better/more comfortable with a DSLR; hoping the X-Pro2 steps more into this arena). Gonna hold out until next week on returning this thing. Love/hate... love/hate...
  18. I spoke with Fujifilm NJ, they are aware of the WiFi and settings reset issue and they feel a firmware fix will be coming soon. How soon? He did not give an exact date, but he said if I still have issues it should be within my 30 day return policy for Amazon. That is reassuring. I am not seeing the black frames or feeling the heat of the camera like others. I'll hold on a bit longer. Still on the fence, but feel a little better about talking to them.
  19. I am currently on the fence about returning my X-Pro2, but the shutter button is not the reason. Still works and it feels the same as my X100T. I use a concave shutter release button on both as I have really large hands. Think it functions just fine.
  20. I had one issue with the 35 F1.4 with AF missing with the OVF (and corrected frame was on). But becuase of the WiFi issues locking up my camera often (I have since given up on using WiFi), I wondered if doing a manual reset would fix it and it appears to have worked. AF with OVF appears to be good again. I have not been tempted by the 35 F2 yet. I find the original 35 F1.4 is very snappy on the X-Pro 2. I cannot see myself parting with it. It's a great lens. Only lens I am parting with (finally) is my old Canon EF 50mm F1.4. It's been hiding in my Pelican case and it will be for sale soon on a Canon Buy/Sell forum. I still have not taking the X-Pro 2 out with me, just shooting the typical dogs, kids, photos around the house as I familarize myself with it (and don't feel it is firmware ready for trusted use). Love ACROS... And so does my pup... this was with the 35 F1.4:
  21. Have had multiple settings reset issues early on (had the camera a week now), not since. These include shutter sound and AF confirm beep turning back on as well as RAW reverting back to JPEG... What I consider annoying. WiFi (to Instax SP1 or iOS or Android) locks the camera up every time. A power off does nothing, the battery must be removed (often results in some settings reverting to default). I've given up on getting this to work. Initially the format shortcut (trash command + rear command dial in playback mode) was not working. I manually issued a camera reset and got that working again. 35mm F1.4 was not hitting focus with OVF, even though corrected frame was on. However, I issued another forced camera settings reset and went through the settings again and that appears to be working again. I've only experienced that with the 35 F1.4. Still feeling the camera out and not using it as extensively as I would have liked. Right now have a love/hate relationship with it and trying to remain patient. The good news is I am getting familiar with the menu system.
  22. I've had the settings reset a couple of times with fresh batteries. Other issue I have had on a few occasions is WiFi locks up. Shutting off the camera does not fix it, the battery must be removed. Usually resulting in some of the settings resetting. And the last issue I resolved last night. The shortcut for SD card format (from playback mode TRASHBIN + center push of rear command dial) was not working. Did my own reset of the settings and it seems to have corrected that. One thing for sure, I have gotten used to the new menus, but at the same time have gotten very frustrated with this camera. I am sure it is firmware. Hearing to many reports of these issues. Not bothering with My Menu... Heard a few cases of settings not sticking there too. Battery life is less than impressive. Hopefully they can make some tweaks to performance and give it a little more. I can put in a full battery, turn it on hours later and it is 92%. I didn't even turn it on (but I have not seen that happen since I reset the camera myself). I have about 23 days before I have to decide if the camera is going back. It's got the features I want, but it is a little too buggy out of the gate. I do hope Fujifilm has an answer with a firmware update before I need to make that call else I will wait for the X-Pro 2S or 3 and stick with the other X camera I have for a while longer.
  23. My first Fujifilm X camera was the X100S, so the Rang-finder style won me over, but I do shoot a Canon 5D3. I blew out my elbow and ended up getting an X-T1 over the X-Pro 1 because it was better at AF and the EVF was amazing. I have healed up (long time coming), but I still like the X-T1 with the 56mm F1.2 over my Canon for portraits. Because I shoot indoor sports on occasion the 5D3 and 70-200 F2.8 will be around for the time being, but I am getting the X-Pro 2 (we will see if that changes things though I am not expecting the AF to keep up with basketball)... the 1/250th flash sync was enough to push me that direction and my love for the X100 series. I would imagine the images from a Nikon sensor or on par with the X-T1 though. The Camera Store YouTube has a comparison of the X-Pro 2 and the D7200 and they are on par... both APS-C, but I have to imagine it is in the same ballpark as the D750 FF sensor as well.
  24. I still have Canon 5D Mark III's and a ton of glass with no intention of getting rid of it, but I purchased an X-T1 and now, several lenses. The lenses are ultimately the reason you invest in the system. The bodies will keep coming if the lenses are worth a darn. I think they are. I enjoy shooting my X-T1 and X100T, but I still have a Fujifilm wish list that includes a flash system, better AF and tracking, even better EVF to name a few. The pros of the system are the size and weight, image quality (sensor & lenses), and it is simply fun to use. I enjoy photography; for me, not for anyone else. It really does not matter what "brand" I use if I like the results I get.
  25. I shoot indoor basketball and can't imagine the X-T1 could handle this. I have a FF DSLR and 70-200 F2.8 for this and don't see myself parting ways with it anytime soon. The Canon AF system is amazing. I have not attempted to bring my Fujifilm with me to a basketball game and don't see myself purchasing the 50-140. It's a beast and not much smaller than the 70-200. I wouldn't mind trying it after the 4.0 firmware, but... ehhh... best I don't. It's not something I need or something I wanted the Fujifilm system for.
