Hi all, I've been shooting stop-motion wedding films alongside my stills photography for three years now, and while I switched to Fuji for my stills last year, I've been still using Canon cameras for my stop-motion films. This was mainly due to concerns about battery life, responsiveness, manual focus etc.

I've now become very comfortable with the X-T1 and worked out how best to set up the cameras to achieve the results I need for my films, and have started shooting exclusively Fuji. Here's the first that's 100% X-T1 - we shoot approx 4500 RAW files for the film, of which about 1600 make the final cut. add to that another 1500-1800 stills and it's a 170GB day!

Anyway, if you want to see just what can be achieved with Fuji gear, check this out!

By the way, here are the results I got from this past wedding with the Fuji 11mm extension tube and the 56 1.2. So glad I bought the extension tube. Well worth it!

I think that left side is raf, but not sure.
Though, the main reason to shoot in raw not only details. WB settings, exp corrections, shadow recovery, etc. all of this thing is more powerful with raf.

The X-T1 is a slower AF camera, it really can't not compete against the likes of the 5D Mk3 or any of the Nikon Dx.
Heck, it even lags behind the Sony A6000 (great performer on AF btw). But that was mostly before the FW 4.0 update.

Now, we are still slower but it's no longer so indecent. For comparison, my Nikon 1 AW1 with the 18.5mm F1.8 (50mm equiv) focus much faster in good light than my X-T1 with any of my owned lens. The Nikon 1 is about the same AF speed as the Nikon D3S which is a tad slower than the 5D Mk3 and D4S.

So yeah, not the best for sports and/or fast moving subjects. It does okay with my son when he "pose" for me for half a second but not much more.

For wedding, I used to think that the Fuji X gear would be sub-par for the need, but I have been proven wrong by many of the forum regulars who are wedding shooter.

It seems the common understanding is that high end DSLRs have a faster AF than the Fuji X-T1. However, this seems not to be longer true, when the DSLR is in live view mode.
    See:http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_EOS_5D_Mark_III

I found this when I was looking for a review of the Nikon D750 which has even a tiltable screen. But when you shoot holding the camera ever your head and looking at the tilted screen then you will get a much slower AF than with the X-T1. The D5 III does not even have a tiltable screen.

Of course, this is a very special use case and may not be relevant for you.

I think, at the moment what ever we choose is a compromise in one or the other way.

The 56 F1.2 remains my second favorite lens from Fujifilm.

The X-E2 AF should be more than enough for weddings.

Between the X-T1 and X-E2, I would say the X-T1 has a slight edge.

Between the 5D3 and X-T1, I would say the 5D3 has a slight edge with some of the EF "L" lenses you attach to the body.

To your question of the X-E2 as back up camera, I think it's very good as a back up.

Which 52 F1.2 lens did you use with your X-E2?

No argument needed. Never said I shot only JPEG. Memory is cheap so I always shoot RAW + Jpeg. But if I have it dialed in from there it can much faster to use the jpegs for processing and pull in the raw if I need them. Dynamic range is great on the raws, but in actual practice I use the dynamic range adjustments as an exception, not a rule....meaning the majority of images don't need a ton of it. And those jpegs have a lot of range too.

I would argue that just because it can be done, doesn't mean it's worth the risk. Fuji Jpegs are wonderful, but when it comes to someone's critical life moments, I'm shooting RAW+JPEG at the very least. Film and RAW images are much more generous with dynamic range and white balance than jpegs.

It can be done. You need to be a bit more diligent on your exposures of course. Here's a few weddings where I used all Fuji jpegs, mostly w/ Classic Chrome simulation and Velvia for the dance party.

For portraiture, most often some form of clean up in post may be required, so RAW is the go to mode for me. But I have used the sooc jpegs on occasion. For more "realistic" portraits, they can be just fine.

I also shoot weddings using Fuji.

    Gear:

    X-T1 x 2 (hanging on a Holdfast Money Maker)
16 1.4 (beautiful for wide shots and detail work)
23 1.4 (I'm not yet getting the 23mm focal length completely... on fullframe I was a 28/50 guy.. nevertheless very useful)
35 1.4 (love that FOV but hate the AF performance on this lens, especially when the light fades)
56 1.2 (my workhorse... most used lens BY FAR)
    (90 2.0 coming soon)
16-55 2.8 (workhorse lens, never disappoints, although I prefer prime look)
(50-140 probably coming later this year for the reach)
Nissin i40 (rarely used but taking it for safety)
11mm extension tube (ring shots, close-up details)
    Reflectors in different sizes
Cards, batteries etc packed in a Compagnon Messenger.

I had the 10-24 but sold it. No plans for a macro since the 16/90 are both close to macro lenses.

My main combination for ceremony will be 16-55+90, currently I use 23+56. During portrait sessions I use 35/56. Details are shot with the 16 (and soon the 90).

1st engagement shoot of the season with the X-T1, 56mmf1.2 and the 18-55mm. Lovely evening light. Used spot metering mode for most of the backlit shots and quite impressed.

Been admiring / desiring the Fuji system for a while now. Finally jumped in with the X-T1 (I did own the X100 and 's' for a time but never shot pro with them). I've been a Nikon shooter for most of my professional wedding shooting. I currently shoot with a Nikon D750 and D610.

How did it go at my last wedding with the X-T1? It went so well that at some point after the ceremony I just put down the D750 and went mostly Fuji (I shot a couple groups with the wider 35mm on the Nikon and some dance photos later on as well).

    Gear used:
    X-T1 (1)
    35mm F1.4
    56mm F1.4

For flash I just used my Nikon SB-910's... not optimal but hey I was just getting my feet wet with Fuji  I've since added the Nissin i40 for now.  Another wedding in a couple weeks so we'll see how it goes.

If you want to take a look at the results I put up some thoughts and photos on my blog.

One of the reasons for switching to Fuji was my back. I was shooting with a 1Dx and a 5D3 on straps and was getting real issues. Since moving to the holsters I have to say I will never switch back to straps - it has revolutionized the way I work, and freed my shoulders to carry the super light Shootsac with the extra lens or accessory I may want at hand. No issues at all, I got two and a couple of extra pins so I can have one under my mini 90 etc. Make sure you tighten the pin with the wrench supplied - if you do it by hand it can work loose.

I've been looking into the spider holsters for myself. Right now I use a sling strap and just hold the other camera. I have a bad back, so I'm trying to keep as much weight off of the shoulders as I can (another one of the reason on why I went to fuji). Have you found any issues with the holsters over using a strap?
