  1. Thanks Fuji for fixing this issue in v1.01! Cheers! Rolly
  2. Looks like the bug goes beyond the x100F. The X-T20 exhibits more of a dancing distance focus shift when the shutter release is half-pressed. Same thing with the X-T2! Only the X-PRO 2 seems to not have the problem but this is from preliminary testing. There appear to be issues with Fuji's implementation of manual focusing by wire across TRANS III cameras. Will report back to see if the upcoming firmware update addresses the issue for the X-T2. Cheers! Rolly
  3. Confirmed, my x100F has the same behavior with each successive burst moving the focusing distance inwards when the aperture is set between f/3.2 to f/16 . Starting at a focusing distance of 15', by the 10th set of pictures the focusing distance has moved down to approximately 3'. This weird behavior was only observed from f/2.2 to f/16. When the camera was set to f/2.0 or A the focusing distance would hold. At f/2.2 and f/2.5, the focusing distance moves outwards increasing the focusing distance. At f/2.8 it is negligible but still shifting the focusing distance. From f/3.2 to f/16 the focusing distance movements shifts from moving outwards to moving inwards. Looks like another bug that hopefully Fuji will address. Cheers! Rolly
  4. For now, the only workaround I can see is to simply leave the camera on and disable Auto Power Off. While in Power Management menu, might as well throw the camera into Economy mode to conserve battery power. The battery life should be stretched further when using manual focusing and the OVF. Oh, and carry lots and lots of batteries... Cheers! Rolly
  5. So in other words, cripple the camera since it's too much effort to change the lens cap design. Brilliant! Furthermore, the lens only protrudes with distances less than 2', specifically when shooting macro. So instead of Fuji checking to see if the focus distance is less than 2' to take the appropriate action, Fuji instead decides to default to 7' regardless of the focus distance setting thereby making the camera almost unusable for those who choose to use zone focusing. Compounding the situation further is that there's lag between powering up the camera and being able to adjust focus. So when either the EVF or LCD appear the focusing still can't be adjusted for another 300 to 400ms. Ugghhhhh! The camera is brilliant in so many other ways, but this decision by Fuji is like serving an exquisite soup with a fly floating on top making the total experience unpalatable. Rant over! Rolly
  6. Consistency is all I ask for. But somehow Fuji managed to throw me for a loop. Having an X-T2, X-Pro 2 and an X-T20, they all behave the same when the units are turned on with the previous distance settings preserved. But Fuji had to go ahead and put in a default setting of 7' for the X100F when powered on no matter what the previous setting was set to. Arrgrrggghhhhhhhh!!!! WTF!!!! It's the little things that can drive one crazy. Cheers! Rolly
  7. You may want to consider the X-T20 - a miniaturized X-T2 with all the TRANS III goodness - which is smaller than the X100F when a XF 27mm is attached (40mm equivalent). For wider shots, there’s the XF 18mm (28mm equivalent) otherwise consider the Rokinon 12mm or 8mm manual lenses. The Roki lenses are small and pack a lot of punch. Full reviews can be found at the lonely speck astrophotography website. Personally, I use the 12mm for my astrophotography as this lens is unmatched when it comes to speed and coma correction. Worked well on my last Iceland trip in ten below temps with 60 mph gusts. Cheers! Rolly
  8. Make sure the downloaded file is not corrupt by verifying the checksum that I've posted earlier in the thread. Also, verify that the file has been copied to the root folder of the SD card. It should not be placed in any sub-folder.
  9. I'm using http://onlinemd5.com and getting the following: MD5 Checksum ------------------ Beta release - "4E12F4EB43AD6AD1F215FE189B9CBED7" Fuji release - "F7AD4C2FB4CFCF18CEEB3B6ADDEC3840" SHA-256 Checksum ----------------------- Beta release - "199CC47270CAF456909972398403B0DECA0D2B0831FF43DB1E2CC5E77F77F29A" Fuji release - "330EA550094D48D292E73359454A78D7D5B4924E8290DD4F654F6BC1D9C57615" Cheers! 10. One final note about the AF in low light with the 56mm... The XT-1 is focusing down to -0.33 EV
  11. MD5 and SHA-256 checksums are different between the early "beta" version and the official "fuji" version. I'm also noticing performance differences in low light AF capability. I was having some problems with the 56mm 1.2 but now it performs like a champ in very low light. Cheers! Rolly
  12. MD5 does have multiple vulnerabilities including identical checksums for different files so there is a possibility, though remote, that two different FW 4.0 files end up giving you the same MD5 hash. To be certain, simply use SHA-256.
  13. As one of those who took a leap of faith, I needed to verify that the camera would allow a re-install of the same version. Seems to work as the camera goes through the paces by displaying the progress bar of the install. Once completed, my X-T1 is behaving the same as it has been since I've installed the new "beta" FW. I also tested to see if I could re-install 3.11. I can't, which confirms what has been previously stated about not being able to install a previous firmware release. Also, I verified that that the firmware updater does indeed use checksum to verify the integrity of the FW file. It does. Cheers! Rolly
  14. One more little tidbit: version 3.11 and 4.00 FW files are exactly the same size of 42,599,472 bytes. However, when you dig a little deeper the differences become apparent. And that is all I have to say about this topic. Cheers! Rolly
  15. Here are the ranges for the various shutter modes in the T setting: ES - 1" to 1/32000 MS - 30" to 1/4000 ES+MS - 30" to 1/32000 AE bracketing still +/- 1 EV . Someone at Fuji must hate HDR... Cheers! Rolly
  16. Just finished doing some quick tests with various lenses (10-24, 14, 23, 27, 35, Zeiss 50, 55-200 and 56) and I'm . However, I did come across a lighting situation where the camera struggled to focus with the 56mm. Below is an image of a djembe drum (situated 4' from where I snapped the shot) that gave the 56mm fits. But on the next image of the paint cans (about 14' away) the AF snapped into focus almost instantaneously. Seems like surface brightness is effecting phase detection. Cheers! Rolly
  17. Just tested the new firmware and over all I'm pretty impressed. It turned my formerly pokey Zeiss 50mm macro into a speed demon. Cheers! Rolly
  18. This Chinese forum - http://forum.xitek.com/thread-1454990-1-1-1.html - has a working link to the file. Rolly
