Dramatic headlines and polarising opinions generate page views. Page views (potentially) generate revenue and make people feel like they an audience, which makes them feel like they have something significant to say. The reason Parr, McCurry and the rest don't feel the need to get involved is because (apart from obviously being too busy having a life) they have something significant to say through their images.

I want the XF 10-24... is it worth selling the 18mm and 14mm for it?
olli replied to Patrick FR's topic in Fuji X Lenses
I'll second citral - why not rent the 10-24 for a week and see how it works out for you? Then you'll be in a better position to make a decision based on your own needs and experiences, rather than those of others. I'm not sure where you are but there were definitely a few places that did rental around Munich when I lived there (happy days). -

Beautiful image. The echoes of the rocks across the layers works beautifully. I also love the subdued and muted look you have here. This is a great shot, so simple yet so harmonious.

My favorite camera bag is...
olli replied to erreflower's topic in Bags, Half Cases & Straps for Fuji X
I use a freebie from the OSCE ODIHR that I got a few years back doing election monitoring in Albania. Advantages - it's a perfect size for a camera, a couple of spare lenses and various odds and ends; it has a multitude of pockets, most with zippers; it doesn't look at all like a camera bag. Disadvantages - it's not waterproof or water resistant; it's not padded but I just use padded inserts. As well as that I have a Lowe Messenger bag I picked up some years ago and an Ape Case Envoy Compact. For a while I was also using a messenger style bag I got from MUJI. Key feature of all of them is that they were cheap (or free). While I understand that some people need more than I do from a bag I find the pricing on many brands of dedicated camera bags a little bit crazy. -
For me the 10-24 will almost certainly be the next one. Beyond that maybe the 16mm. I just wish there was a smaller cheaper version of it.

Hi Jerry. I'm also in the Philippines - living in Pasay City. Let me know if you would like to meet up some time.

My wishes are a little more mundane - for all future camera an accessory rubber for the viewfinder and an adjustable/tilting rear screen. These are the two things missing from my X-E2 that I miss most from my NEX-7. Other than that a decent flash system would be nice

Thanks for this. I'll be there at the end of June and will definitely look them up.

Coming from Sony NEX I did regret that I would be giving up the lens based IS on the 35 and 50mm Sony lenses. But it wasn't a big enough issue to put me off buying into the Fuji system. Realistically you should be able to use reasonably slow shutter speeds already with the smaller primes already so the advantage with IS on these kinds of lenses is there but it's less significant than with bigger/longer lenses. The only place where I would really miss it would be the 16-55 which I don't and probably won't own. I had previously moved from sensor based IS (with a Sony DSLR) to lens based and while senor based might be nice to have, again, it's not a deal breaker.

So happy, he's dancing. Though his friend seems less than impressed. The Filipinos are the nicest, friendliest people I've ever met. Taken on Arnaiz Avenue, Pasay City. (X-E2, XF35)

I noticed a few days ago that the XF55-200 is available on Amazon new for $499. This is the cheapest I've ever seen it. If you're in the market for this lens and you're in the US now might be the time to buy.

I think perhaps this plays into the question that was raised on FR a while back about whether there will ever be an X-E3. If not, and the X-T10 is to become Fuji's offering at that price point, then it would be nice to think that Fuji would go out with a bang as give us X-E owners one final comprehensive update. On the other hand, if they are still undecided about the future of the X-E range it would make sense for them to hold off since they would want to offer some of these kind of capabilities in a new X-E3.

I know you could say that its already covered in 'Street Photography' and I understand that you don't want to create an endless list of photography types, but would you consider adding 'Urban Photography' to the list? I see urban photography as including the urban environment in a broader sense that street photography including the built environment, urban infrastructure, architecture and more. However, if you would rather not I will post away in the 'Miscellaneous' section.

I also have both of these lenses and for practical use I can't tell them apart in terms of image quality. Since I'm not really interested in bokeh I can't speak to that. I personally have a slight preference for the 23 for my kind of urban documentary photography. Before I switched to Fuji I was using a 30mm lens almost exclusively and I find it is easier to get used to being a little wider (23) than a little narrower (35). I think knowing what I know now, if I could have only one it would be the 23, but I prefer to have both.
