While waiting for the X-Pro 3 announcement (hopefully with IBIS!), I've been indulging in a little lens fantasy about what I'd really like to see coming round the corner in the future. Idle speculation I know, but I think I've hit upon a nice little idea so I'm wondering whether anyone has any opinions on it, for or against. Here goes...
Fujifilm should consider replacing the current 18mm f2 with a Fujicron style 18mm f2 WR. No surprise so far as the 18 for some reason I've never been clear about, isn't widely held in the same high regard as many other Fujinons. A WR version would round out the Fujicron range nicely. But here's the thing that really appeals to me. Imagine if Fujifilm were then to conflate the current 18mm f2 with the 27mm f2.8 to make an uber- pancake. It would boast the design, size and speed of the 18mm, i.e. f2 with an actual aperture ring, but with a focal length of 27mm.
Picture that! A 40mm equivalent F2 pancake lens on the front of your IBIS loaded X-Pro 3 as an all purpose walk-around lens for when you want to travel light. That's my idea of heaven. And of course, if Fuji did want to make it as weather resistant as the X-Pro body well, who am I to argue?
