  1. Yes unfortunately it is normal for closer subjects. I exchanged mine and the next one was better but they all have this type of coma at f2
  2. Yes, if the lenses were as good then I would definitely switch-the lack of ibis and touch screen on the flagship xt2 is an issue. The lackluster face detect is also still an issue and that isFuj beyond comprehension. The naysayer fanboys suggest back button or manual focus to which I respond: that's not the purpose of face detection now is it? There's no perfect camera but there is market competition and Fuji cannot rest on its laurels. Instead, Fuji needs to keep pace with competition.
  3. My vote is for the 55-200. I had a 50-140 and returned it because with the 1.4 teleconverter it was the same IQ as the 55-200, yes it was a faster lens but you had to stop it down to get any improvement. Essentially you had a 55-200 for nearly $2k. I haven't tried the XC zoom but it looks to be on par in good light. I'm a fast lens snob and return lenses at the slightest touch of coma or astigmatism but I have to say that Fuji really did a great job with the 55-200. Just be careful buying a used one. My first purchase had a faulty focus motor. I bought it used but through amazon warehouse so I was able to return in.
  4. Mine has been freezing up as well, usually in afc
  5. "Objective analysis is best suited to technical and scientific pursuits." Not trying to get into a tussle, but this sounds like socialists discussing capitalism or artists discussing economics. I'm shooting Fuji, Sony and Nikon and I get the subjective analysis aspect but when you need specs then you need specs. If you need a vehicle to carry 7 people and it can't then it's pointless to discuss the quality of the drive. Just Saying...
  6. It's the same sensor as d7000 and in raw I've found dynamic range to be good, not as good as my d750 but better than fuji so far. The dust issue does happen but I've never had a hair in it. I've used suction to get dust moving and there's a diy floating around for other methods. But, I've been shooting with the GR for almost 3 years and it's held up better than my fuji bodies. It's just a crazy good camera. Wish they made a new GR model soon.
  7. If you're OK with fixed lens and 28mm then go Ricoh GR. It's pocketable and made for one handed operation with a sharp lens wide open. I have both fuji and ricoh and the GR is much quicker and easier to operate in a flash. Downside is the high iso isn't as good, iso 3200 is max if you're going for full resolution.
  8. The 0 number of responses is an answer. Thanks!
  9. What he said below and ignore the other fanboys that say it just doesn't matter. With the right lenses Sony is sharper but much more expensive so it's not worth it unless Sony is already within budget. Medium format is better but not worth it unless you're paid and need it-MF lacks the lenses and is expensive for system redundancy.
  10. I'm not seeing a plethora of independent xpro2 reviews regarding face/eye detection. zip on youtube I was thinking about picking up one of the refurb xpro2 units but now I'd like to see how the af has improved and not only on the 2.8 zooms. anybody got any videos?
  11. After the 2008 crash most manufacturers, across products, began using much cheaper and inferior materials. This isn't a metal vs plastic issue but a quality metal/plastic vs weaker/cheaper materials issue. You can see it in cars especially with engine, transmission and trim. Lower heat tolerances and easier to break. 2008 was the start of budget cuts and spike in mineral prices. In a nutshell, the stuff we use to make metals and plastics got more expensive to find, extract and manufacture. So it's not Nikon d700 vs Fuji issue, had the X-T1 been built in 2007 (with current tech) it would be a much sturdier camera than what we have now. The d750 I have now is not as robust as the d750 from 8 years ago. Fuji does not sell parts but I've been able to find spare parts for a fuji x30 and that means it probably got outsourced to a manufacturer in China - since it's the company in China selling the parts and only for that model. I see a stock market crunch coming so I wouldn't be surprised to see a lack of inventory on new camera models. I'm looking forward to the xpro2, nikon d500 and sony a6300 but we'll see how it goes. Just in time inventory is a real pain when 'events' happen. Anyways, fixing the sd slot shouldn't require a fuji specific part since that's a 3rd party item made to fit sd cards inside many cameras. I'll just have to make sure I get one with the same wiring and data speed capabilities. Or just replace the ripped wire inside the slot. We'll see, it's more of a personal challenge now than anything cost effective.
  12. technical capabilities - yes time - maybe I refurbish antique cameras as a hobby but to work with the electronics requires more time, patience, a micro soldering tool and access to a 3-D printer. Fixing the sd slot is simple but in my experience, opening the camera can be a point of no return; I'll give it a shot though. If it works then I'll have a working fuji again and one that I can sell without concern about selling a lemon. If it doesn't work then I haven't lost anything new. Unfortunately, I do have to say that as much as I like mirrorless, they're not as sturdy as dslrs, but part of that is because of the weak materials used in production after 2008. I'll post results when available.
  13. I'm thinking of a camera mod to put the guts inside a leica but it just doesn't make sense given that fuji glass is really good. makes much more sense for an older sony nex. looking at some online options on fixing the sd slot, we'll see.
  14. Now the sd card slot doesn't work, yikes. It looks like my sd card was cracked and I damaged the wires when I pulled out the card. Outragous experiences with this camera. If it was $500 US to fix the side damage it will be another $300 to fix the sd card slot. I might as well sell it 'as is' on ebay with a full description. The sad part is, the camera still works well but now I'm getting card errors with all cards. bummer
  15. Yeah, agreed with darknj and milandro, the camera works fine so I'll end up keeping it. They have to replace the side plate, top plate and a bolt that holds both together. Top plate is fine but it's connected to the bolt. Since it works it looks like I'll be keeping it and weatherproof it myself.
  16. Got the estimate, it's US $500.00 and I'm not sure if it's worth it. The camera works fine but if I decide to sell it I'll probably only get $500 for it and it's no longer weather sealed. Really torn. Any thoughts?
  17. Did you shoot from left to right and top to bottom, with AF locked onto the couple?
  18. This does not bode well for my plans to send in my XT1 for repairs after it fell. Any other options for reputable repair if the NJ location is bad?
  19. I just finished a month long trip with the 10-24, 18-55 and 55-200. Sice returning, I returned the 55-200 becuase of grinding but also because it wasn't convenient to change lenses when traveling especially with a family. I'd consider purchasing another 55-200 if I had two bodies with the 10-24 (which I loved at the wide end) on the other body. If I had to do it again with one body I'd get the 18-135 and keep the 10-24. I found the 18-55 to be a good lens but not long or wide enough for travel. During the trip, I ended up keeping the telephoto zoom on the xt1 and using my ricoh gr with wide attachment for wide shots when I didn't have time to switch lenses. Overall, I did get some nice shots but when time was tight or when I couldn't get the AF to work quickly enough I did miss shots and my d750 with 24-120. Given your preferred options I would recommend looking into a second body, even the xpro1 since they're on a fire sale on ebay. For me, since I do a lot of astrophotography as well as indoor low light work I'll be using the d750 or pick up a d810. I'll keep the xt1 for fun.
  20. Thankfully, everything still works except for plugging in an external shutter timer. No more exposures longer than 30 seconds. I'll be sending it in for repair soon to find out the cost.
  21. I was shooting long exposures last night and a gust of wind tipped over my tripod with the XT1. Damage is minimal but it will need to be sent in. I was using an appropriately sized tripod but between the wind and me hurrying, it tipped. Any ideas about turn around time and cost? I had an external shutter cord plugged in, which caused most of the damage as it fell on that side. The lid is also damaged and won't close properly. Thanks!
  22. I tested it with the kit 18-55 and there's some improvement in single shot mode. Obviously there's now tracking available in continuous mode and it works. It's faster than the Ricoh GR but not as fast as the a5100 with its kit lens but the sony lens is extremely poor in IQ no matter how you look at it. Also, as someone noted, it does appear to have a .5 ev improvement in low light focus point acquisition. Face detection has improved in movie mode as well.
