jlmphotos got a reaction from iantownsend in Memory Card + Travel
To me I like to "spread the wealth". Having large 128GB cards, even 64G is too many eggs in one basket. In my gear I have a split of 32G and 16G SD cards. I can take a total of 8,943 images shooting JPEG + Raw. If I lose a card, or it's somehow damaged, or the camera is stolen, I only lose either 891, or 480 (approx) images on the card depending if they were 32 or 16G. Also, Once the card is full and back in my card wallet the card wallet is NO LONGER KEPT with the cameras. The card wallet is on my person wherever I go, at anytime. If the camera gear is stolen, I still have my images.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

jlmphotos got a reaction from clapotron in XF23mmF1.4 or XF23mmF2 WR - POLL
I think there is way too much emphasis placed on the WR of lenses. I have used "regular" non WR lenses for 40+years of photography from the Alaskan north, to the tropics, and have never, ever had any issues with ANY lens.
Last september I spent 10 days shooting in, literally in tropical, humid, 90+ degree weather, including in the water with my X-T1, and the 18-55, Zeiss 12, 16 1.4 (yes, WR) and I had no issues with any of the equipment other than some minor sand-related stuff getting underneath the X-T1 on/off switch that made turning the camera on and off a two finger operation. I have no rubber peeling, no distorted doors, nothing to this point and I'm well over 100,000 images (I would guess) with my X-T1.
The WR means absolutely nothing to me. I have found ALL lenses to be extremely resilient when it comes to weather resistance as long as some common sense is exercised.

jlmphotos got a reaction from karin.gottschalk in Least used lens.
Per my LR library Smart Collection my least used lens is the 55-200 @ 1725 images in my library. Now keep in mind these are just the "keepers" not taken and thrown out. This lens, my least used, is amazing and will remain in my inventory.
23mm 1.4 at only 2531 keepers.
MOST USED, or at least MOST KEEPERS: The 18-55 has created 31,752 "keepers" alone for me. Yeah... Not bad for what many consider a crappy kit lens right?
And the FABULOUS 16 1.4: 9,123 images -- Three, of them taken just yesterday here... Of my new grandson and newest addition to the force. Here is the link to the Flickr Page. The three images here are with the 16 1.4

jlmphotos got a reaction from scorpionz in 10-24mm F4 OR 16mm F1.4?
I have looked at the 10-24 and I love the "wideness" of it, but I am in LOVE with my 16 1.4, It's sharp, clean, and I can use it as a mini-macro lens. It's my second "don't leave home without it" right behind my 18-55 lens.
Even though the 10-24 is fabulous, I don't want to carry the bulk or the weight; this is the reason I've also decided to stick with the 55-200 vs the 50-140 2.8

jlmphotos got a reaction from Mehdi in Autofocus with 35mm f/1.4
If it's any help or use to you: I've owned my 35 1.4 since February 2013 and used it on my X-E1 and now on my X-T1. It is an amazing lens, though still slow at acquiring focus. I use it for many things including photographing three boys all under five, and you know how fast they can be. So it is somewhat frustrating when I miss a shot, but at the same time when I nail it, I NAIL IT and the photos are just gorgeous.
I don't have an X-T2 yet, that won't come until next Spring but the 35 1.4 will def. be on it at some point.

It's only for photos shared on Flickr, but it reflects more or less what's going on in terms of lens usage.

jlmphotos reacted to dalto in Fuji X-T2 raw file sizes
Hmm...looks like both lightroom and fastrawviewer support them.
EDIT: It is a pretty substantial savings on disk space. My files are mostly between 22-26MB

It depends on what's in the picture. Usually between 20 and 30 MB.

The 22MB are compressed. Not all software handles them yet.

jlmphotos got a reaction from Blues_stringer in Fujifilm XF 55-200mm F/3.5-F/4.8 or XC 55-230mm F/4.5-F/6.7?
I've never used the XC series, but I can definitely attest to the GREATNESS of the 55-200 lens. It's my go-to for long(er) shots. I prefer the 55-200 over the 50-140 due to it's size, weight, and a somewhat longer reach.
If you can afford it, go for the 55-200

jlmphotos got a reaction from menphrad in Does a missing sync cover affect the X-Pro2's WR sealing?
I kept losing the little round sync cover on my X-T1. I finally got fed up with replacing the darn thing and took a little bit of Sugaru (I think it's called) and filled the darn thing in. No more problems.
As far as keeping a cover on the flash hotshoe I bough literally a bag of like 15 small, rubber, tight fitting levels and slip these into my hotshoe on the X-T1. I think the bag of levels cost me under $9.00US. They are cheap, and fit very snugly so I know zero moisture will get in there.
But oh that darn sync cover... Sealed that puppy right up as it's something I will never use. I'm sure some of you are wondering: What about when you go to sell the camera? Um. I pretty much use up cameras to the point they become paperweights. So once I'm finished with the bodies, they go into a glass display case I have at one of my homes and they stay locked up in there. No one will want to buy my used crap -- even though I do keep my gear in excellent mechanical working order the outside looks like sh*t.

jlmphotos got a reaction from merosen in Use our Fujis as workhorse tools or keep them pristine?
OH MY GOODNESS I love this topic. My two cents: Don't throw it around, but use the darn thing. If it gets dinged up, so what? As I've mentioned in other posts throughout when I'm done with cameras they become paperweights. I still own my 1978 Minolta X-E7. If you saw it, you would swear it doesn't work; but it does!
It has traveled from the northern slopes of Alaska, to the Florida tropics and everywhere in between!
I don't abuse gear, but I'll be damned if I'm going to baby it. All this bullshit of WR and non-WR lenses to me is just that. BS. If a lens can't get wet, screw it -- move on.
As I've said before: Back in the day, there were no WR lenses. We used what we got. Period.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Thanks for the advice and comments guys. I was worried I was turning into a collector rather than photographer. Time to remove the leather cases I reckon.. Regards Drew

jlmphotos got a reaction from menphrad in X70: For how many shutter releases was it designed?
I wouldn't worry about it. Most likely you'll move on to another body long before you need a new shutter mechanism
