MSW got a reaction from Phiggys in Am I the only one who likes the XC 16-50?
I have 12x18 prints on my wall, one taken by an E-X1 + XC 16-50mm and one by a Nikon D7100 + Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 DX.  Both on a tripod with good lighting.  The subject is different but still with your nose close to the glass studying at the details the Nikon shows no advantage.   The XC series is highly under rated in my opinion.  I have a fantasy that Fuji will make a XC 16-105 someday.

I have printed 18x12 from a cropped image made with an X-E1. I do not see any shortcoming with respect to resolution. I think you will just fine with the X-T2. In fact, now that I'm using an X-PRO2 (same sensor as X-T2) it's not the additional pixels that continue to surprise, it's the dynamic range that is the biggest deal. Situations that previously called for HDR now only need LR's Dhadow and Highlight sliders.

Frankly from my point of view and personal preference.these are pretty unimportant
    1. Not interested in video.
    2. Would be nice as long as it didn't increase the weight or dimensions -- unlikely pipe dream to say the least.  I can deal with it.
    3.  Never used that feature on cameras that had it.  Prefer to just switch out batteries.

Of course, these are all PERSONAL --  they could be deal killers foe someone else.,

    However:
    4.  OVF is a tremendous benefit in certain situations with very bright sunlight.  It also works very well when panning or following a moving subject  - no black out, no freeze, no flicker.  Even when a small fraction of a second all of these annoy at best and sometime seriously interfere.

    5.  I find it a big step up from any of the prior generation Fuji cameras for just one big reason -- the new sensor.  I could have stuck with the older Mpix count, that's not super important.   The new sensor seems to have a greater DR - at least that's how it feels when I'm working with the files in Lightroom.  Situations that used to call our for HDR just don't need it anymore.  I thought I was maybe kidding myself on this but this last weekend I hauled ot my X-E2 because where I was going involved a fairly strenuous hike and I wanted to minimize the weight I was carrying.  Quite a few shots that would have worked with the X-pro2 that I've become accustomed to just didn't work out because I couldn't make LR adjustments as successfully as I've come to expect.

MSW got a reaction from Curiojo in 60mm macro with X-Trans III, does it hold up?
Sharpness is not an issue - it's way more that jim dandy.

Cons - which are well known
    - Very slow AF, but if you are using it or any other macro lens at macro or close up distances, AF doesn't work that well.  MF or moving the camera in and out works better.
    - Max magnification is "only" 2:1, where as many people only 1:1 to be macro.  However, several decades back the first Nikon lenses designated "micro" only achieved 2:1 and were the wonder of their day.  Besides that it takes a lot of practice to shoot handheld at 2:1.
    - The working distance (space between the subject and the front of the lens) is short and can make it awkward to get light on the subject or if the subject is alive and mobile getting close may chase it away.

I think og the XF 60mm as a good general purpose short short telephoto lens with macro capability and accurate but slow AF.

If you are interested in this lens for dedicated macro (nothing else) i suggest two alternatives
A- wait for for Fuji's XF 80mm macro next year
B- Look for a used Nikon 105mm Micro "AF-s", "AF" or "AF-D" (but NOT "G") on eBay plus a Nikon E to Fuji X adapter.  It will be inexpensive, heavy/bulky, manual focus only and sharp  The manual focus is mechanically direct, i.e., not 'by-wire" which works better for macro anyway, especially if you try focus staking.

I think the the following is and will be true for any of the new bodies:  the 24mpx sensor is a big improvement over the older 16mpx for several reasons but to me the most important is the improvement in dynamic range.  It's ver obvious to me when I compare processing in LR.

Fotasy works for me.  I use it with a Nikon 105mm micro.  Be aware that there are two different types of adapter for Nikon lenses:  One for G-series, i.e. newer nikon lenses without an aperture ring. One pre-G Nikon lenses, i.e., the ones WITH an aperture ring.

If you use the AF-L button for BBF like I have starting with X-E1 you like others may find it is too flush with the body to locate just by touch; that is without taking your eye from the EVF/OVF.  At least one person has reported using a small dab of Sugru to raise a bump on the button but fears that may affect resale vale.

Here is my alternative suggestion:  Cut a short, narrow strip of gaffer tape in the space between the AF-L and Q-menu buttons.  Actually I use three strips on top of each other to be sure it can be felt easily.  Gaffer tape leaves little or no residue when removed.  It is black with a rough surface and barely visible but easily felt

Rockwell sometimes has useful info but you should filter it through your personal common sense module.  First time I read his column he was praising all thing Canon and bad mouthing Nikon like crazy.  A year later it was the opposite.  Speaking as a dad he reminds me sometimes of a teenage girl - when there is some undefined annoyance with life the symptom is expressed by a stream  bitching about everything in site that lasts from minutes to days.  Just as you get used to this it all flips the other way and the world is suddenly filled with fabulous , joyous wonders.

A long as I'm being catty let me note that I've looked at his gallery and while he may exceed my technical abilities I definitely do not share his aesthetic sensibilities.

It's cool. I like it.  It's a commentary (conscious ??) on equipment as objects of ownership vs.tools for a purpose.

A couple of months ago I sat down on a stone bench to change lenses.  The X-M1 was placed carefully on the bench beside me.  Some guy came along, asked if it was a Fuji and said he was shocked I would treat a Fuji that way (setting on a stone bench).   I was a little confused until I figured out he was serious.  I explained I was more interested in what the camera could for me than to treat it like jewelry.  Nice guy but all he wanted to talk about was cameras -- not one word about what I was doing with it, (which might have been interesting since I had had it IR converted..

I know someone here who takes his Toyota 4x4 out to remote ares of the southwest where roads are primitive to say the least.  He tells me that when he bought it one of his first acts was to bash a large dent in the body work so he could past that stage of new vehicle obsession and get on with just using it as intended.

"Will Fujifilm Make The Same Mistake?"
Probably not since one of their representative has said publicly they have no interest in FF.  There are recent hints that that's not the case regarding MF.  If the MF is tru I hope they are aiming at Pentax prices rather than Leaf or Hasselblad prices.

Can't say I'm too upset the X10/20/30 series was just a little too bulky for me.  My ideal for is Canon's S100/110/120 series.  The fit in my button flap shirt pocket and are not too heavy.  Canon's new G9X just  fits into this niche but has a 1" sensor.

That said if Fuji wants to attach this market segment ("fits in my pocket but unlike my iPhone is a real camera") they could try something does not exceed the vweight or dimensions of the G9X but X-Tran-ize the 1" sensor.  And Fuji-ize the controls.  That would be something that I would make it practical to have a camera every time I step out the door.

I would prefer keeping the current layout of buttons.  Also please move the tripod mount so the battery door can be opened when a mounting plate is attached.  How about an optional eyecup for the EVF to make it work better in bright sunlight.

These may apply to all models:
--Wider auto exposure bracket (+/-2, +/-1, 0 )  not just limited to +/-1  Needed for HDR triples-- we haven't reached limitless sensor DR yet.
--On X-E2 drive options, the two continuous frame rates seem either too fast or too slow to me.  Can we get something in between?
--UHS-II compatibility.  Need to clear the buffer faster!

    MSW got a reaction from Lord_Vader in 35mm f/2 vs. 23mm f/1.4?
This is an ancient debate.  In the days of 35mm film there were endless discussion about which was the more natural field of view, 50mm or 35mm (which were equivalent to what you are talking about). Going back to Fuji's, the 35mm corresponds more to the field of view you get from eyes when you don't swing them back and forth, while 23mm is more like what you see with your eyes when you move them around some what. (The previous statement is subject much argument!)

It really comes down to individual preferences.  If you have the 16-50 or 18-55 try setting the focal length to 23mm for a few days and shoot as much as you have time for, then do the same for 35mm.  YUse a little square of duct tape to keep the focal length in place,  Compare results and your personal experience.

Which ever one does the best job of tracking action.  Horse races, dog agility events (unless you have tried, you have no idea how quickly a border collie moves!) and the like.  Then I would no longer have a motive for retaining my Nikon.
