  1. I find even with the WR i am paranoid, so when the rain gets to coming down even a little I tend to get headed to a dry area with a nice warm cup of coffee. OK, I'm a wimp, but gear is expensive and I like to play it safe. I probably don't need the WR but I do like to have it. If nothing else for the sake of confidence when the weather gets rough and coming in out of the weather is not an option. That does occur at times as well - you can't stop a downpour when it starts in the middle of a four mile hike. The better suited the camera is for bad weather the more confident I am about not having problems later.
  2. When I see Fuji making a "Mark II" i can't help but wonder how they are going to improve on what they already have. Most their lenses are already great. However in this case adding "WR" weather resistance would be an improvement and follow along with the 23, 35, 50 f2 line up of late. I try not to be tempted by new lenses any more as I already own too many, but If the 18 can remain a good size like it is and perhaps made a little sharper I will be tempted.
  3. I own the Tenba Messenger Mini that I love and must agree the Vertical Grip is a problem getting it in and out of the bag. But I love that bag so I will keep struggling with getting the camera in and out the top zipper.
  4. Fuji does not recommend stacking their extension tubes. I'm not sure why. I do find myself using both depending on how close I want to get. I also find they work best with a zoom lens. Or perhaps I should say easiest, a prime lens requires moving in and out a lot to find focus, whereas a zoom allows you to zoom to get into focus range.
  5. For Butterflies you may not need the extension tube. I get great shots without. But having said that the 55-200 is fantastic with the extensions tubes; you will likely get some great Macro shots with them. I have both of the Fuji tubes and use them a good deal, especially for flowers. With the rains we have had here in Phoenix I expect a good Desert Bloom this year - really looking forward to it.
  6. I picked up the 100-400 a while back and find it is no different than my Canon 7D/100-400 combo. I would suspect the same for the Nikon system. What I am saying is it takes a few months maybe even longer to learn how to use an outfit (of any brand/combo) properly. I had somewhat the same review just after I picked up the 100-400 lens - I had some struggling with it. But after using it for a few months and learning how to apply the settings and use the Auto-Focus to my advantage. I now find the system to be very much on par with any DSLR. The Auto-Focus has no problems whatsoever if it is set properly for the conditions. It just takes some practice to know what setting/ when - and I am still learning.. I believe it might take a book to explain each detail, but for the most part, until you have a particular camera/lens in your hands long enough you don't really learn how to use it. Right now I am struggling with the XT-2/16 f1.4 combination. What an INCREDIBLE lens! But every once in a while I get into a scenario where I don't use it properly. Still learning the lens. That's what it is about. It takes time/practice with any lens - some more than others. As for which brand to go with it is hard to say. I really got some good times from my Canon gear, but now I love my Fuji. You just have to go with what you feel most comfortable with and learn to use it. It's like my Fly Fishing gear - the more I force it to practice the better it gets. In fact the gear I leave in the closet even gets better the more I force my current gear to practice!
  7. For me its personal: Granted most people disagree, but for me I am not cussing at a stupid hateful touchscreen My XT-2 is perfect as it is.
  8. There are some things the XT-2 can do that the XT-1 can't. Mostly it is the fast AF and 4k video, but if you don't use either of those then "no" not worth the expense. As a hobbyist I like to shoot anything and everything so when I take out my 100-400 and go out to catch Birds in Flight the new AF is a MAJOR improvement and well worth the expense. However when I go out to shoot landscape the only advantage might be the larger sensor if I decide to print really BIG. So definitely not worth the extra cost for that purpose. As it is, I kept my XT-1 as a backup so I find occasionally carrying both cameras to allow me quick access for action with the XT-2 and also access for Macro or landscape without the hassle of changing lenses to be very handy. You need to look at what you are going to be doing and if the changes provided by the XT-2 actually help in what you intend to use the camera for. Then Yes it's worth it. And "Yes" I LOVE my XT-2, it is GREAT!!
  9. Makes me realize that with the XT-2 I have purchased my last camera. All the new models no matter the brand are coming out with touch screens, so the XT-2 is likely the last camera I will purchase. Maybe I should pickup a back up XT-2 because they will have to last me a long time.
  10. This is a question that should always be asked when purchasing a new camera. I hesitated before picking up the XT-2 over my current XT-1 for just this reason. It finally came down to I really enjoy the challenge of Birds in Flight. The Auto Focus of the XT-1 just didn't cut it. I kept telling myself "NO", but all the hype on the new and improved auto focus convinced me to go for the XT-2. I have no regrets, the auto-focus meets up to the hype. It works really well. Without the improved Auto focus I would be as well off with my XT-1. I still use it as a second for non-action shots. It is a great camera, it just doesn't focus as quickly for action.
  11. I ordered the first day of the release and received my XT-2 from the first shipments. So far I love it and have had NO issues. However I do understand neither the XT-2 nor X-Pro2 play well with third party flash systems. The Firmware upgrade did correct some of that, but If I understand what I've been reading likely not all of it. I don't use flash often and when I do I have a Fuji flash so have not experienced any of these issues. The other complaint I've heard is locking up. From what I read this has mostly to do when using the Vertical Grip (Could be wrong here). I have the vertical grip and have not had any issues with it at all. I locked up once but that was from turning the camera off and back on too quickly. I thought I was done shooting then saw something to capture at the same moment I shut the camera off. This was really not a problem and easily fixed. As for jumping to the XT-2, I also used the XT-1 for quite a while and still love it. It is now my backup. To me the advantage of the XT-2 is the Auto-focus. If you shoot action then I would say the XT-2 is worth every penny, but if you don't shoot action, BIF etc. then not so much. The XT-1 is a great camera and does everything else extremely well with great Image Quality. For me the main advantage of the XT-2 is capturing action with the advanced auto-focus - with the 100-400 it makes a great combination for wildlife. Also I should mention the 4K video as an advantage as well, but I could care less about video so for me its the auto-focus.
  12. When the XT-2 came out I wasn't impressed with the idea of a joy stick. I figured I'd never use it. Now I find I am using it more and more. It has more functions then just moving the focus point. I keep finding new uses all the time.
  13. My 100-400 is quite sharp and does very well for me. So I can only figure a bad copy or user error. User error includes a myriad of possibilities so an image with exposure details might say a lot.
  14. I just switched from Windows to Mac and love my Macbook Pro, but with the new ones I am not so sure. Do I want to carry a bag of dongles every where I go? I have many years to go before I will need to replace my Mac, but if the direction Apple is going is still the same at that time I may just be going back to Windows, even though I hate Win10 with a passion.
  15. My technical background is kicking in reading this thread. I do problem solving and I see a trend with this thread and other threads I have read. What I see is that some have the problem and some don't. The trend I see most is that the users having a problem are those using mixed cards. That is "one fast card and one slower card" or "one large card and one smaller" AND the setting is to write to both cards at the same time, either as back up or something else. I am wondering if writing to two different cards, especially with two different write speeds at the same time was not programmed for. This is the type of thing programmers usually miss - that is a user doing something creative and not expected. This would be easy to test. I am just curious.
  16. Yes, it is a dilemma, but after purchasing the adapter I finally broke down and bought the Fuji 1--400. What a great lens! Anybody want to buy a Canon 100-400 mk I?
  17. I noticed a number of posts showing shipped from B&H. I pre-ordered on 7/7 at 4:00 AM so I knew I should be pretty high on the list so I chatted with them to learn my Credit Card had been refused !!! I checked with the Credit Card company and sure enough my trip out of state last weekend put a security hold on the card. With that straightened out I called B&H and got the charge through for them. An hour later I got my Shipping notice. It is now on the Big Brown Truck
  18. I was using my XT-1 with the 100-400 this weekend with a high shutter speed for a very active event. I found I was having problems with focus hunting. I had the focus square as small as it could go - so I enlarged it and no more focus hunting. In fact, I was able to focus extremely quickly which allowed me some pretty good shots. I like it small for detailed work, but for quick focus it is a good idea to enlarge it.
  19. Check out the new NP-W126S batteries. Word is they are designed to be used for the 4K video specifically for the purpose of keeping things cool. It is my understanding they will also work in the Xpro2 so might be worth a try. You might ask Fuji for clarification on how they will perform with the Xpro2.
  20. Interesting read, but I believe it still comes down to personal preferences and what you want to accomplish with your camera. Both cameras are great cameras, but each is designed to perform a little better at one task over another. In the case of these two I doubt the performance difference is that great. The A7II is said to have the better IQ, but the XT-2 keeps right up there with it in a lot of aspects. The XT-2 is said to be better designed for Sports and Wildlife, but the the A7II keeps right up there with it in a lot of aspects. My curiosity sits in the idea of IBIS. I have never used a camera that had IBIS so it would be interesting to give the Sony a try. A have to wonder how much difference there is with the Image Stabilization in the camera verses the lens. That could make for an interesting comparison and likely would vary between brands.
  21. Yep, my new 100-400 arrives today. Can't wait to get it out and play this weekend. Hoping to capture some Humming Birds and Butterflies at my usual haunt.
  22. Tell me about it! I just picked up the last lens I felt I really wanted, but now....... That predicted 80 mm Macro that can incorporate the tele-converters REALLY looks interesting. A 200 f2.8 could also prove quite interesting. It never ends!
  23. No they don't !! That'll just flare up my GAS one more time!! Seeing as I just broke down on the 100-400; I can't afford that!
  24. I usually go on the B&H site and select the little comparison boxes on the "Body Only" cameras and compare that way. I believe you can compare up to 4 at a time that way. Many are very similar such as the XT-1 and XT-10. I find this has helped me make my decisions quite often about choice of camera or lens
