I took a quick look at my X100T and the viewfinder and LCD produce a perfectly clean image that looks like the second photo above. You may simply have a faulty model on your hands.
Completely agree. In terms of handling, interface and focusing, the X100T is so much better than the S. I tell anyone who's on the fence to go for the T.
One thing I enjoy about the X100T is being able to set aperture and shutter speed manually but leaving ISO on Auto (within certain parameters). It's great for getting the exact effect I want and not having to worry too much about exposure.
