The X-E4 is now a really great alternative also. If you want to shoot raw and use Capture One to process your images the 50R will be very satisfying. The 50R is definitely everything it is 'cracked up to be', you will not regret getting it, maybe you can find a used one.

your RAW image can be converted to anything ... but if you want a jpeg it has to do something (some film simulation as they call it). The default jpeg is FILM SIMULATION PROVIA/STANDARD. You can also make a 'custom' FILM SIMULATION or your own 'recipe' and use that ...

Does the 'smartphone' have an 'auto upload' setting? Maybe that overrides the 50R setting.

I haven't got my 50R yet but I'd try manual shutter speed and aperture at 100 iso. Do a white balance. set ISO to 12800-100 then select 100 maybe set WHITE BALANCE to AUTO set FILM SIMULATION to PROVIA/STANDARD actually start reading at page 55 in the manual .... that page shows how to fire off a shot in Mode P Program AE (what are the settings right out of the box? Fire off a shot using those settings)

I think there will be a good price on the new 80mm lens with the camera.
