I have written an e-mail to Fuji re. the above asking to enable this in the next firmware update, this is their answer:

I have an X-T30 and wondered the same thing as well as almost every good film simulation recipe requires the shift adjusted.
Not sure about the X-T3 but fairly certain you can store white balance shift in your custom settings on the X-T4.
It must just be one of the corners cut to make the X-T30 cheaper.
I use the renaming of the film simulation to remind me what it should be, for example:

    Kodachrome64 +2R -5B

You still have to physically change it yourself but it speeds the process up a little. Even the ability to add a white balance shift shortcut to the Q menu would be great for me.

  2. Only really started acquiring vintage lenses recently so currently have the following:

    Konica Hexanon AR 28mm f/3.5, 50mm f/1.7 & 135mm f/2.8

    Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 Distagon

    Asahi Takumar 55mm f/2

    I also have the Samyang 12mm f/2

The feel of the Takumar is unbeaten, it’s so smooth! The Zeiss is close but not quite the same, proper heavy German engineering though. The Hexanons are solid but the aperture rings feel clumsy to me, nice feeling focus though and great image quality. My 50mm actually has a short but deep scratch close to the centre of the front element. Only cost £5 so i thought why not, use it as a trial and buy a good one later. Truth is, i honestly can’t see any effect from the scratch at all in final images!

The wishlist would probably include a really special 50mm prime and something around 80-90mm, recommendations?!

I had a Nikon ai-s 80-200 f/4 zoom back in the Canon days, it was amazing for a zoom. I believe the Zeiss Contax Vario-Sonnar 80-200 is a great vintage zoom as well for a similar price to the Nikon.
The Nikon ai-s 20mm performed brilliantly well on my 5D mkii as well.

What adapters is everyone using? I'm interested in adapting Canon FD lenses (and maybe Canon EF lenses as well) to Fuji X.

There are so many brands and models. Some seem very basic, while others are super expensive such as Metabones Speed Booster models that cost around $600+.

    Also, any bad experiences?

    Thank you.

Hi Keith, i use K&F Concept adapters and, for the price, can’t fault them to be honest. There is the tiniest bit of play between adapter and camera in the exakta mount one i have but the others are great. Shipping from China to UK was around 10 days for me (even with covid going on). All dumb adapters so using them is as manual an experience as possible.

I don’t know if you get an adapter which would allow Canon EF lenses to be used, you’d need the electronics to adjust aperture i assume. They exist for the Sony A7Rii i believe so potentially Fujifilm also. Google is probably your friend for that!

Ironically (or not...) I had the opposite experience. Transfer to the app was so slow that I discovered the resize option and happily turned it on. Now I can quickly get images for social media or family/friends and even edit them on my phone while geotagging them and automatically backing them up via Google Photos, then save the high-res original stuff for proper processing on my desktop.

It’s briefly mentioned in the camera manual but it didn’t even occur to me that it might be a setting somewhere!

Honestly didn’t see much of a difference in transfer speed, that being said, it was just a single file, a batch may be a different story entirely…

  5. I’ve only just stumbled on this information on another forum and thought i’d share it here.
I wouldn’t normally use the camera remote app to transfer images to my phone but at the moment i’m between imacs and left with no alternative!

So, this may not come as news to any of you but the camera is set by default to reduce jpeg file size to a maximum of 3mb for sending via the app.
Took me a good long while to figure out why my images looked crap, even questioned the resolution of my phone screen! :D

Anyway, if you want to get the full size files then it’s tucked away in setup menu > connection setting > general settings > resize image for smartphone > OFF

I reprocessed a RAW file on the camera and sent it again, 14.6mb as opposed to 1.1mb!

    Life changing :D

It should work through Rosetta but I’ve seen mixed reviews. Some people say C1 works well and others say it’s very unreliable 🤷‍♀️

My MacBook really struggles with LR and PS so I think I’ll need to upgrade this year. Going to wait and see if there are new M1 MacBooks released this year  16” would be ideal as I don’t have the room for a desktop

A new macbook will eat into the lens fund! 😅

i’m going for a mac mini and using the tv as a monitor temporarily, cue weird display issues… 😂

I have the Express version. It’s fine but does lack quite a few features I would use. I was going to buy C1 outright but changed my mind as a subscription means I get all the latest updates. But I think £15 per month is a bit steep. Adobe is £10 and I get more programs and mobile apps.

I will have to wait to use Capture One when i get my new mac, i don’t think it is compatible with the new Apple M1 chip 😐

so it’ll be exclusively Lightroom again for a while!

Yes, I got filters last year and had fun playing about with long exposure on the water. There are some lovely spots around here. ☺️
I’ve tried out the new 10-24mm lens and liked that, it’s probably next on my list once I’ve saved up.

Fujifilm give free loans of all their cameras and lenses for 2 days (just a thumping great deposit to pay in some cases).
you can hire them for longer for a reasonable sum.
i haven’t seen that from other companies, they seem to have the right way of thinking!

    Hi all,

I’m a very keen soon to be Fujifilm owner! I’ve had an entry level Canon DSLR for years but will be getting an XT30 next week 😀

I’ve always used Lightroom to edit my RAW files but have read that it doesn’t handle the Fuji RAW files very well and Capture One does a much better job. I’ve seen YouTube videos where the Fuji files look horrible in LR and it seems like a mission to get them looking decent, never mind doing the edits you want.
I’m not great with LR but can do basic edits and don’t like to spend hours editing photos.

I can’t afford to pay for both software packages so I’m looking for some advice as to what may be best.

At the moment I’m keeping my Canon just as another option but if it turns out I never use it I’ll trade it in.

I keep my RAW files stored on an external hard drive and they’re all organised into folders. In LR they’re organised into collections but I’m not sure if Capture One has this option? I have the LR app on my phone and iPad but don’t use it much.

If anyone can offer some advice that would be great.

    Thank you 😊

I enjoy capture one more and seem to get better results with it to be honest.
if you go on youtube there’s a Fujifilm ambassador called Andy Mumford who has done a good video on using Capture One 👍🏽

Perth is lovely, I'm up in the North East. I've just been out locally with the camera when out for walks.

Hopefully travel will be allowed soon. I have a list of places I would love to go to.

I also have a list of Fuji lenses I would like but need to get saving. I want to avoid having loads of lenses I hardly use.

I think if i was to start over knowing what i know now i’d have the 16mm f1.4, the 35mm f1.4 and the 50-140mm and i’d be covered. Might start putting all the vintage lenses on Ebay and i’d almost have enough for the 16mm!!

Lots of potential for seascapes and things in the north east, i’m a wee bit jealous of that! I get to the Auchmithie harbour occasionally and Boarhills just past St Andrews is a good spot.

Hello, I'm from Scotland too! I had an entry level Canon which I rarely used. I got my Fuji and absolutely love it, I have an X-T30 with 18-55mm lens. Now I'm out with my camera often and have a lot more interest in photography.

I’m in Perth and hoping to have more time to get out soon, locally though, going on flexi-furlough!

Can’t wait for travel to be allowed again, aiming to get to Iceland, Prague and the Outer Hebrides this year!

Just picked up a 15-45mm lens on Ebay for next to nothing, so far it seems really surprisingly sharp (when used between 23-35mm and around f/8!)

  12. Hi from Scotland!

Came to Fujifilm (X-T30) from Canon (5D mkII) about a year ago and haven’t looked back. I’m really enjoying the X-T30 now i have it set right for me.
Been working on a budget so went down the adapted vintage lens route but, for me at least, it’s not the way forward.
I’m mostly a landscape guy and i find the old glass doesn’t quite have the resolving power for anything more than a few meters away so sticking to Fujifilm lenses for that! In the right hands though and used in the right style the vintage lenses could be used to great effect, i don’t doubt it.
I shoot in full manual mode to force me to slow down and take my time. Almost everything is tripod based (Gitzo carbon) and i use both Capture one and Lightroom.
Looking forward to being part of the Fujifilm community which seems to be growing steadily and sharing some images and info!

    Chris
