Reading this thread, I wonder what the fans of C1 think about their subscription program (same as Adobe at $10month). I presume that, like Lightroom, the subscription approach will assure one of having the "latest and greatest" version as opposed to site licensing that generally implies additional payment must be rendered for the next full version upgrade.
Meanwhile, a question - does C1 offer the facial recognition capability that LR does? Having "taught" my LR across the 30K images I have, now if I want to call up all photos that include my brother (for example) it's simple to do. Looking over the Capture One site I do not see this function mentioned at all.
FInally, don't know if anyone has heard of or tried Excire Foto and Search - a new program that uses AI based image recognition to assign metadata to images. ("Foto" is standalone; the "Search" add-on is the plug in for LR). I did but it a couple of weeks back and can say it does a pretty impressive job. No individual facial recognition (thought it determines if there are one, two, three or more faces and whether they are smiling or wearing glasses) but, while not perfect, pretty impressive auto recognition of architecture, a variety of animals, etc.
Having heard good things about Irident I am going to give that a try, though frankly I have been pleased with how LR (on my Mac, if that matters) has handled the .RAF files.

Iridient reduces the amount of data. This means less quality. Why buying 24/26megapixels and then reducing the amount of data again... Makes no sense, huh? We used it for many images and it sucks, unfortunately...

I have found one issue with v21 and that is the sessions getting confused with one another, ie even when the paths were set correct for a new session images would get saved in the output folder of the previous one.
I do think in many ways  C1 is over complex especially for what should be a simple thing, images in and images out. It is also incredibly slow to load images in as well ,for example 300 raws and jpegs well over ten minutes on a machine that is gen 8 i7 ,32 gb ram and nvidia1070ti 8 gig on board, this computer can get 70fps with the Toliss airbus in Xplane 11 with all the sliders to the right! C1 is certainly not well optimised.
Having said that C1s output results are nothing short of superb, haven't found anything better and have tried most. It amazes me how much you can squeeze from a raf especially highlight recovery from bright over done skies.

    Hi!
We're using Fuji as prophotogs and LR is without any question not usable for Fuji. Period. We tried several times - forget about it.
Capture One - excellent RAW processor for X-Trans - but the App is that buggy, that we now start to search for an alternative. But - it's damned slow. Importing is that buggy, that it won't show you the content of your Card, but random old images hidden in some cache.
As it seems Capture one isn't able to maintain the source code of their own app bc. bugs that are well well known are inherited over many (5 generations at least) major releases...
DAM: Never, never, never, never, never rely on Capture One... the worst DAM we know.
    Just go for Photomechanic Plus.
So: Capture One is - as far as we know - the best of the worse alternatives for x-trans... But... honestly: if I'd been aware of the trouble x-trans creates I'd never gone for it... unfortunately...
But - the next thing I do is creating a thread searching for a Capture One alternative.

I bought C1 Pro 20 perpetual licence for Fuji last January and was locked out of it this week after running out of activations and after it let me download and upgrade to version 21 which worked for 2 days. Extremely annoying as I didn't have the previous installer and wanted to process the first rafs from my new 100v. In any case and doing the maths a subscription is cheaper so I moved to this. For my Nikon D810 files I use DxO PL4 which is a perpetual licence and works out over the years of using it more expensive than an LR subscription so it seems to me that a subscription is the way to go for a lot of things these days. Thing is there is always an upgrade with something worthwhile having  with software and this is where a sub makes more sense.

Hi, I'm relatively new to the Fuji X System having shot with a Nikon D200 and then more recently a Nikon D610. However, I recently bought an XE2 with the 18-55mm and 10-24mm lenses for travelling and have been trying the Fuji out for some landscape work. This is one of the Forth Bridge at sunrise - shot in RAW and processed with Adobe Lightroom and finished in Perfect Effects:

i do a lot of different photography and really enjoy all of them but my secret love is still landscape photography.
as a former nikon user (still using it sometimes) i wasn´t completely sure about the landscape capabilities of the xtrans sensors. i read a lot about it and wasn´t aware, until a few days ago, that many users don´t like the rendering for landscapes.
anyway i decided to buy a zeiss 12mm and adapt my 100mm filter system to it. and it works fine. let me know your experience for landscape. i´m actually using the x-e2 with xf23, zeiss touit 12mm, 55-200 & 18-55. i´m now considering a x-t1 because of tilt screen and weather sealing...

This is precisely the issue that Fujifilm should fear with their current release policy. Welcome to the world of many X-H1 early buyers who paid a premium price for the flagship model only to find out it was undermined by Fujifilm's release policy just a few months later. No significant firmware updates anymore, topped-up by a price cut of 45% and no clear model policy going forward.
The issue is that Fuji (unlike Sony) uses the same core technology (sensor and processor) for different camera lines. That makes it very hard to distinguish models. Now for the X-E and the X-Pro that doesn't matter as these are aimed at a very different style of shooting. But in the 'DSLR-type' of cameras we have essentially 5 lines (X-Txxx, X-Txx, X-Tx, X-Hx and now X-Sxx) more or less build for the same purpose and some varying only $100 in price. It's not only confusing buyers and cannibalizing on more expensive models (why would most users buy an X-T3 or even the 4 when the X-S10 is launched? - yeah I know the weather sealing marketing trick). It also is very expensive to manufacture and maintain and after a while alienates users because they feel tricked.
I'm starting to like Sony's very straightforward model range. The APS-C cameras in the A6xxx line gradually building up in capabilities. No misunderstandings. Full-frame is in the A7/A9 line where each model (plain, S, R and A9) have a specific purpose and use case. Whenever the new generation comes along, you down-price the current generation until you take it out of production. An A9 wildlife photographer won't mind the price reduction of the A7RII because he or she knows it's a different camera with very different capabilities. Imagine you bought the X-T3 a year ago. By now you would have had 2 WTF-moments in that year: when the X-T4 was launched and now with the X-S10. The same for the X-T30 buyer who has seen (in 1 year) the price drops of the X-H1, the X-T3 almost to their level and now the introduction of the X-S10 for just $100 more! Or the aforementioned X-H1 buyer...?
I really think that Fuji needs to clean up its model policy and create a more structured long-term model policy in their -T, -H and now -S line. Many will say that diversification is a valid marketing strategy, but as a former marketeer I also know that confusion leads to indecisiveness and purchase delay amongst buyers. Your outcry Nicky, is a perfect example of that.

Which genres of photography are you in? Landscape, portrait, reportage, food, stills, animals, family ... ? I think that's what would narrow  down the possibilities considerably. I wouldn't call 23 mm "the wide end" in the Fuji X system, it's really more of a standard focal length (a 35 in the full frame world). Personally, if I could only have two lenses, I'd go with the 35 f1.4 and the 18 f.2, but that's more because of their special rendering (almost film-like, as many would argue). That would be about the equivalent of the 50 mm and the 28 mm in the full frame world, my standard kit back in film days ... For sharpness, versatility and still acceptable low light capabilities I'd chose the 16-50 and the 50-140 (+1.4 converter). But that would be huge and heavy kit ...

Without knowing your shooting preferences and style it's a hard question to respond to. In case you look for something longer than the 23mm (35mm FF equiv.), the 35, 50 or 56 are all great lenses. Depends on how much longer you need. The 56 has by the way the same filter thread as the 23 which can be convenient. If you really need 'long' then the 55-200  or the 50-140 are good additions that won't make your 23 redundant. The 50-140 however is well-over $1000, but you can look at used ones.
In case you want something wider, the 16 or even better the 14 or the 12mm Zeiss are great additions to your 23. Esp. the 14 pairs nicely since it has the same manual focus clutch as the 23 (in case you focus manually at all). The 16/f1.4 also has that, but might be too close in focal length to the 23.
As for zoom lenses, I guess you bought the 23 for a reason. The issue with buying a standard zoom next to it (like the 16-55 or the 18-55) is that you probably leave that on and might not use the 23 that much anymore. That is a pity since in terms of IQ it is one of Fuji's best lenses. Adding the 10-24 (which is on sale) is perhaps a better alternative as the long end (24) of that lens isn't the best part of that lens, which keeps the 23 a good extension.

Definitely agree, without knowing what you're trying to capture, it's difficult to make a suggestion. If you're just looking for general photography coverage, the 56 is a good pairing with the 23. If you're shooting video, you'll probably want to consider something significantly wider with the crop factors for 4k and 240fps (also the vertical loss shooting landscape).

You asked an open question for 2 lenses and then closed it down by saying you had decided already on the 23mm!
My 2 choices would be (and in fact are) the 10-24mm and the 18-55mm standard lens. If you wanted a third choice then I'd add the 55-200mm zoom but very often I just crop an image from the 18-55mm on my X-T2 and that suffices. With the X-T4 you'll have even more pixels to play with so you may not need a longer zoom.

DAM stands for Digital Asset Management and is indeed the Library/Catalogue function in LR and C1. LR has indeed some advantages here for users who seek very detailed filter and keyword features.
However, C1 comes pretty close for most users. You can migrate your LR catalogues to C1 and it retains all keyword and album functions. For the very large catalogues and advanced filter options Photo Mechanic is a very good addition.
When you work in projects (like most professionals do) C1 has another option which is called Sessions. I suggest to view the online C1 tutorial Catalogues vs. Sessions first before setting up C1. That should give you an idea which one to go for. You can also use both depending your workflow. For my personal work I use Catalogues (coming from LR). My paid work is in Sessions (incl. mostly tethered shooting).

After purchasing X-T1 and X-T3 and realizing Lightroom would not process RAF files out of the X-T3, I tried C1 Express and was so impressed, I bought the Fuji license version with styles kit. At this point I am thinking of going all the way to Pro version so I  use Canon files as well. The fact that they have excellent training tutorials and the system is a joy to use has me convinced.
Adobe made a big mistake for me when eliminating the perpetual license version. Not going to be locked into paying for years.

Ah the beauty of mirrorless.  You can focus and do what you need with the ND filter(s) on - unlike dSlRs. I have not had any issues focusing with ND's on my Fuji's if that helps.

teaandcake reacted to Lumens in Fuji XT-2 Raw : worm effect when photographing small leaves and flowers
Bottom line learn what it is you are working with - that is an Xtrans sensor vs a Bayer sensor.  Fuji files are created with an Xtrans sensor which is quite sharper than a file created with a Bayer sensor.  Therefore default settings in Lightroom tend to over-sharpen when translating from the RAW format; thus creating worms.  This can be proven by simply over-sharpening any image - you will get the same effect.
I use a preset while importing to my Lightroom Catalog that sets all sharpening to 0, then as Capture One does, I increase the Noise Reduction to 50.  This provides an imported image to work with no different than if it came from a Bayer sensor or if I was in Capture One.
Lately the "Go To" solution has been to use Capture One, but if you look at the default import settings it simply decreases sharpening and adds Noise Reduction to remove the worms.  Truth is both Lightroom and Capture One are both great software solutions, they simply handle Bayer & Xtrans sensors files a bit differently so you need to adjust accordingly.

Under sharpening leave the "detail" slider at 0. Thats it. No wormy artifacts. No need to change your whole workflow...

    Hi 🙂
I had a Canon 100D which was my first camera and I recently got an XT30. I feel I use it a lot more than my Canon and really like it so far.

Im still in a bit of a dilemma about which software to use. I’m used to using Lightroom and find it’s better value for money than Capture One as it has mobile apps and offers Photoshop etc. too.
Ive got the free version of Capture One but have only used it a couple of times. I think I prefer the interface of Lightroom.
