According to Wikipedia, this is: Hemaris diffinis, the snowberry clearwing, is a moth of the order Lepidoptera, family Sphingidae. This moth is sometimes called "hummingbird moth" or "flying lobster".
This is the first time I have seen one of these out in the wild so to speak, at first I thought it was a large bumblebee.

This is my first post, Hello!
A few miles from where I live is the Dee Estuary, the River Dee being the original border of England and Wales. On the English side is the village of Heswall and the river there consists mainly of mud flats. I've posted a small selection of photos I took earlier today of some abandoned boats in various states of disrepair. This is one of those places where I always think better photos can be had when the weather is a bit more on the gloomy side. Unfortunately, today has been warm and sunny!

Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow and Old Dutch Burying Ground, 430 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591, 914-631-4497. Founded around 1685, this is the church and churchyard that appear in Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” It is often confused with the adjacent but separate Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

The church’s 2.5-acre burying ground is, of course, the purported haunt of the headless horseman, and also the resting place of local citizens who likely inspired Irving’s characters of Katrina Van Tassel, Brom Bones, and others in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

“Indeed, certain of the most authentic historians of those parts, who have been careful in collecting and collating the floating facts concerning this specter, allege that the body of the trooper, having been buried in the church-yard, the ghost rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head; and that the rushing speed with which he sometimes passes along the Hollow, like a midnight blast, is owing to his being belated, and in a hurry to get back to the church-yard before daybreak.” —The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
