Just had to make an account to CONFIRM and thank your findings. I had the exact same issue with everyone else. Grip not recognized\batteries showing up dead. While not having access to that thick tape, I simply put a piece of tissue (adjusting thickness through testing), and sure enough, the grip works properly again. Correct charge and recognized. Note that my grip and camera were bought since initial release, and have had the issue for the entire past year, and finally now found the fix. Thanks again, JBW1763.
