I don't know why people always yearn for IBIS. Yes, the olympus version is quite good. But it has downsides. Also, the bigger the sensor, the less effective the IBIS gets. While its supposed to have 5 stops benefit in M43 bodies, it only has about a 2 stop benefit on the A7II. Now 2 stops, that's not a lot and I can definitely pass on that if it costs more, which_it_will.

Only the 50-140 has OIS of all the XFs I have. I'm doing very fine without IBIS/OIS mostly.

The 56 APD is a niche lens with far more downsides than advantages. Loss of PDAF, 1 T-stop, gain of slightly more DoF, higher price tag and a change in color reproduction are heavy hitters when compared to a slightly better bokeh (and only wide open and only when the situation allows the benefit to show.

Want bokeh? Go for the 35 1.4, rather than the 60 2.4 or the other manual lenses. Skip either of the manual lenses. If you want a semi-macro option, look at the 60 2.4.

Forget adapted solutions. If you buy a cheap adapter, you accept a compromise in image quality and most vintage lenses aren't all that good. By sticking a cheap adapter in the front, you reduce IQ even further. And a good adapter costs more than most vintage glass.

Stick to Fuji's own lenses. You mostly get the same color reproduction, get AF and Fuji's glass is just some of the market's finest.

Actually, the majority of X-T1s I see have grips on them.

It's a pancake design. Of course, it suffers in the corners. It also offers f/2 aperture which is rare with pancakes.

I'm with you though. 28mm on 35mm format was my favorite focal length and I miss it a bit with Fuji. I'd love to see a 18 1.4 R WR

My setup changed quite a bit.

2 X-T1 turned into 2 X-Pro2 (imo the best wedding camera money can buy you at the moment).

And regarding lenses, I currently use the 16 1.4, 23 1.4, 35 1.4, 56 1.2 and 50-140 2.8. With 2 YN flashes, 2 triggers a boat load of batteries, sd cards and a few other things that's the whole kit.

I always wondered why the images from the 16-55 looked slightly harsh, until I found out that the lens suffers severely from CA. Those CA get automatically corrected in LR and leave white edges which made for a harsh look.

I sold mine after a year of much use. I prefer the look of the primes any day. Not because of the larger aperture but because how clean the images look.

The problem with the 35 1.4's AF speed is the construction of the lens. To focus, the motor has to move EVERY single lens element present in the 35. I think Fuji calls this ALG (All Lens Group) focusing. A lot of glass has to be moved, slowing down the AF speed.

Marc G. reacted to wmiller549 in When will the pre WR lenses get updated?
It would be great if Fuji updated their lenses every few years. I'm just saying that it took Canon a quarter-century to update their original EOS primes, but some people are expecting Fuji to do it after a mere 2-3 years. That seems unreasonable, and unlikely.

    Good frickin lord...

The focus group of the 90mm is controlled by a magnetic linear motor. Without power, the focus group is, within the defined space for it, a little loose. This has been reported a few dozen times in each and every damn Fuji forum. You either never heard of the search function in a forum or just don't inform yourself about a new piece of gear beforehand.

    I'm feeling sorry for B&H.

For having customers that send back equipment being perfectly fine.

The XF90-rattles-when-being-shaken-"issue" has approximately 10-20 threads in this forum alone and is the #1 issue-that-isn't-an-issue reported about the 90.

I could understand when someone asks about it when the unit arrives and the user is unsure about it. But instantly sending back 2 units without researching?

The 56mm is my workhorse. I will gladly use it over a zoom at a similar focal length ANY time as the zooms simply cannot compare to it. Whether you do need it or not, it comes down to you. You should know already, though, as you used the 85 on your nikon. Did the 70-200 make your 85 redundant?

The Zeiss Touit line, to me, is a big fraud. The 12 and 32 aren't optically corrected, as the XF14 and XF35 1.4 are, originally cost WAY more, are not built as good as the Fujinons and are not as good optically. The blue Zeiss logo on the side just triples the price tag, unrightfully so. Besides, the Touits are assembled by Fuji btw... The XF 35 1.4 is better at 5.6 than the Touit.

Yep, good summary. I would never buy a Touit.

Good decision. I'd use the original lens hood. It is of excellent quality and serves the purpose very well!

If you want to use the standard for landscapes, just go get the 35 1.4 and use it at 5.6 for a very even and extreme sharpness. Forget the Touit, not worth even its current price. The 35 f/2 is not really made for landscape. The digital distortion correction takes its toll for images where you need even sharpness out to the corners.

What a pointless thread. I've received excellent service from Fuji Germany. So generalizing your service experience for all Fuji service points is no less than narrow-minded, especially in combination with the rant/cancelling pre-order.

Here, X series is serviced with priority. You receive a free loan camera for the time of the repair which is sent out the same day you tell them about the repair problem, so before they even have the camera.

On the other side, I also used Leica and the customer care is one of the worst I have ever experienced. Clueless people, long repair times and 60% of the stuff I bought had to be sent in instantaneously. But do I think that it's always like that? No.

Which is to be expected. The X system exists since 2012. But even after only 4 years, the service is still much faster than what I experienced with Leica. When you take the number of users and the time in existence into consideration, the Fuji service is fine. After all, it took decades for Canon and Nikon to create such a service system. You cannot expect the same thing from Fuji after 4 years. When they launch the FPS this year, it's still a miracle.
