azmmount got a reaction from Franko in Introduce Yourself
Mike here. Just started with Fuji a month or so ago from (long time) Canon shooter. Looking to learn how to use the camera more better - in many ways it is so different from shooting the Canons (some good, some bad, some just different). So far, my biggest frustrations seem to revolve around the AF system so I am looking forward to the 4.0 update next month.

azmmount got a reaction from merosen in Share your workflow!
I have RAW files going back to 2001. Not only have the tools to process them improved but also the dullard behind my keyboard has gotten better at using the tools.
To me, throwing away the RAW and keeping the JPG/TIFF/whatever is like throwing away the negative and keeping the print.
But, still, I do not very often go back and reedit an image so maybe I'm just a RAW File Hoarder...

azmmount got a reaction from Blacksheep in Kaizen Again? Fuji X-T1 will get another Firmware update this year! (AS) - Which New Features would you like to get?
I'm pretty sure it's just a formula. All they have to do is plug in the new numbers if the focal length or aperture changes. I don't think it would be that much of a nightmare. It seems like an interesting idea to me and a feature that I would probably use if it were there.

azmmount got a reaction from bigbadwolf in Old school macro lenses
I was looking into old manual macro lenses to adapt to my X-T1 because I was less than enamored with the native Fuji options. The 60mm only did 1:2 and the Zeiss is pretty expensive. My original plan was to wait for the 120mm from Fuji but I found myself missing the macro capability and not liking the extension tube thing too much (too complicated figuring out which tube to use and too restrictive with composition once I picked one or both).
So I stumbled across a Super Multi Coated Macro-Takumar 50mm f/4 on the eBay in a condition I was willing to purchase at a price I was willing to pay. As a bonus it came bundled with a complete set of extension tubes, an extra "short" tube, and a bellows (all also in excellent condition - none of which I have used yet though). This lens seemed to be fairly well regarded even though it too was only a 1:2 lens (the first, uncoated version, was 1:1 but there were only 2 on eBay when I looked and both were much more expensive and in much worse condition).
I am super impressed with this lens. It is sharp. Contrasty. Has a nice smooth bokeh. Maybe I'm missing something but I just can't understand how a lens that appears to be this good can sell for this cheap (around 100USD - less if you are willing to accept one with less than near perfect condition).
Here are a couple of my test shots with it taken over the past week or so. Most (if not all) are handheld at f/4 because I'm stupid like that.

Seems like a fair price, with the stuff that was bundled. Purpose-built macro lenses tend to be very sharp, and highly corrected at short distances. Even though Pentax in the film era was regarded as entry-level/consumer-level without the CaNikon cachet, Takumar optics were respected. However, being Pentax would lower the price, and the fact that it is an f/4.0 would also have a negative impact upon pricing.

azmmount, I read your post, saw your pictures, and liked them so much that I bought the lens off eBay. I live in New York so yesterday I went to B&H and bought an adapter. One of the men behind the counter told me a lot about the lens, said it was excellent quality. I took it home, shot a few, and all of you are right. I love macro! Thank you for your post.

azmmount reacted to CRAusmus in DFW Metroplex X-Shooters
There is a "Drink and Click" event happening at The Quarter Bar in UpTown on Thursday, August 20th at 7:30pm.
The event is sponsored by Arlington Camera and Fujifilm, as well as an appearance by the folks at Westcott. It is said they are bringing all the X Series cameras out to the event, so if you have had your eyes on one, you will get to shoot it.
You must RSVP to the event.

I'm gonna be riding the train out there after I get off work at 5. If there are any DFW X Shooters it'd be cool if ya'll came out too.
You can RSVP here too if you want to try and hook up with one another while we are at the pub. Hope to see you there folks...
The Quarter Bar is located on McKinney Ave in UpTown.

My daughter wanted her picture taken while sitting on this broken tree. For some reason she held her hand out in front of her and gazed ahead to pose. I filled in the blank.

I don't normally do Photoshop manipulations but this one seemed to beg it. Comments/Critiques welcome.

azmmount got a reaction from Rose in HDR & Macro
Yes. For example, with a 16mm tube on the 56mm the distance you can focus in is like 8-10 inches (that's a total guesstimate). If the front of the lens is more than 10" from the subject you can't focus anymore. Here are two pictures with the camera set up at the min and max focus distances.
Also, I bought the generic tube set (Fotasy is the brand) instead of the Fuji branded ones. While I would imagine the Fuji's are better built the off brand was under $30 for both an 11mm and 16mm tube. Since they're really just a spacer I couldn't justify the extra $170 for the two Fuji's.
It has been a long time since I have used it but I don't remember it being too complicated.
I would go with a couple of adapters:
A Canon EF to Fuji X - I have gleaned from this forum (I forget who mentioned it) that the Canon EF mount has one of the shortest distances to the sensor of any system. This means almost any lens can be adapted to it. I would buy this one and then buy the small adapters to Canon EF for each lens you wanted to adapt. A Canon FD to EF - to adapt you Canon 50 A Nikon to EF - obviously for the Nikon If you just buy the normal adapters then there is nothing stuck between the lens and the sensor so no image degradation or light loss. The point of the adapter is partly to get the lens far enough from the Fuji sensor that you can focus with it.
