To your credit, you are correct. I did not put a great title at all on this post. It should have said this: "Anybody out there who loves Fuji but does not have a film background?" That's all I wanted to know.

I shot film for 20+ years before digital and I don't get that either. The whole "I shot film so I know more and am better than you" attitude is ridiculous.

I agree with the OP - I don't get the whole "you need to go shoot film" thing. If you fell in love with photography using film cameras then there is the nostalgia - if you fell in love with photography using digital cameras then shooting film is just stupid. There is nothing you can do with a film camera that you can't do with a digital camera. The only reason to recommend film is to feel superior - we're not superior - we're old. Film cameras required that you think about more technical things to get a decent image - digital cameras can do most of that technical thinking for you so all that is left is composition. Composition is the art - the rest is just the BS you had to do to get there. Modern cameras take away the BS and leave only the art. If slowing down is the point of going back to film then just go buy a really small memory card that will only fit a few dozen images. Same experience - virtually zero cost. Oh, and don't preview the images you took, send them to someone else and have them give you some prints in a week or two so you can see how you did. Ah yes, good times

    FYI,

If anyone is interested B&H is offering a 20% discount on much off the Peak Design stuff for Fathers Day (see here).

It also looks like you can use the promo code fathers20 to get the discount at http://www.peakdesign.com - that would get you the discount on the bundles too.

I don't know if their products are good (they look good) - I have a Leash coming today.

azmmount got a reaction from ZEN5150 in X-T1 FW 4.0 BETA: I have it and share my findings soon ;)
I think this leak is unfortunate and whomever did it is a d-bag. I also think posting links to the download on the rumors page was irresponsible and am glad they reconsidered and pulled it. It would be a poor (but understandable) move by Fuji to stop "live" testing of future firmware releases because of this. What Fuji should do is make sure the official release will not install over the leaked release without their intervention. Then should charge everyone that wasn't authorized to have the leaked release a fee to do the overwrite. I'll bet then next time people will wait the week for the official version

Or, it might be wise for them to tie beta/early release firmware to camera serial numbers. Sad that there can be no trust anymore.

    Hi all,

Today I walked into my local camera store and part exchanged my nikon gear (d7100, 35mm and 18-105 zoom) for a fuji xt1, 35mm and used 50-230. I've spent ages deliberating the switch, following fuji rumours and comparing lens systems. After a holiday away dragging my dslr plus paraphernalia for three kids I decided enough was enough. More often then not I've been leaving it behind due to its size and weight.

Tomorrow I'm off to a friends wedding and I will just take the 35mm with me. I wouldn't even consider doing this with my dslr, partly because maybe I'm a tad vein and it would ruin the look of my nice outfit....the fuji is a different story though.

I'm an amateur who fell back in love with photography after forcing myself to take on a 365 project. Kids travel and landscapes are my main subjects.

Looking forward to meeting other users and picking up advice on here. Thanks for reading and have a good weekend.

In the opening Post of this discussion I posed a simple question about whether anyone else shared my interest in (or desire for) Image Stabilization. I appreciate the responses -- especially the early ones -- and have a much better understanding now of the strengths & limitations of IS.

After fifty-odd posts, however, the Forum dialog seems to have devolved into personal attacks & sarcasm, or migrated into tangential issues (e.g. wedding photography) that deserve their own topic heading. That's fine -- consider it the Tao of Forums -- but clearly we've reached a point of diminishing returns on the initial question.

So, I propose placing a cap on this Topic, declaring it Done, and opening a new Topic to explore some fresh technitory incognita.

Hello from Ottawa Canada. I am an avid Fuji user, with both an XE-2 and X 100T (replacing an X 100). My interests are primarily sports photography (I still use a Canon Mk IV for sports most of the time) and active living imagery (for which I use the Fuji cameras). Hopefully the long awaited for X Pro 2 will put me in a position to do all my photography, including sports, with Fuji gear.

I am attaching a couple of my favorite active living images in case anyone out there is interested, one from each of my Fuji cameras. (paddler and dog taken from my kayak, holding X 100 at water level  ; snowshoe shot taken with XE-2 and 18 - 55 zoom  ).

I havnt used a shoulder/neck strap for years, I use these paracord wrist straps on my Fuji, they are excellent.  They cinch down to the wrist if yo let go of the camera, or someone tries to grab it from you, they are very comfy to use.

So far I'm using a lot of old Pentax K-Mount lenses and a few M42 (screw mount).

I'm definitely in love with the russian Helios lenses, the Helios 44 has this wonderful swirly-antique effect (it's based on an old pre-war Zeiss design) and comes in many variations, some older ones with more (13 or 8) aperture blades, newer ones with 6 blades (but those are sharper). Most sought after are the Helios 44 M-2 (13 blades), M (8 blades), M-4 (sharp), M-6 (sharper). They can be found for 20-30 Euros on ebay, it's also worth searching for an old Zenit camera which came usually bundled with a Helios. The 44 M-2 is a bit more sought after, also the lenses with a lot of zeros as first digits in the serial number are rumored to be better and more expensive. But I'm quite happy with my regular ones.
Anyway, they are mostly made with the M42 screw mount, a simple dumb adapter for Fuji-X will cost you about 15 Euros on ebay. Adapted, the 58mm F2 turns into an almost-perfect 87mm portrait lens. There are also Metabones Speedbooster and cheaper chinese "Lens Turbo" adapters which turn it back into it's original 58mm focal lenght and add an extra stop of light.

Other than that, I recommend experimenting. Pentax K lenses around 50mm are good and usually not as expensive as vintage Canon/Nikon lenses. Third-party P-K lenses can be found very cheap, I got a lot of "Auto Revuenon" lenses for almost nothing, apertures down to 1.7 are usually very affordable (based on your luck 10-30 Euros)- only the 1.4/1.2 lenses are quite expensive in comparison. A good alround lens I liked very much is an Auto Revuenon 50mm f1.9, got it for my girlfriend for 17 Euros and it's sharper than my own f1.7 version.

I'll have to look if I find some photos I can share, so far text only.

Edit: Here's a pic taken with the Helios 44 (M-6 I believe). The swirly effect is quite visible, even with the crop sensor. I plan to get a Lens Turbo soon for the full effect.

In camera and camera brand forums, cameras aren't "just tools". They are a hobby and a passion. This forum isn't about photography or art in general, it's about Fuji X series cameras, lenses and accessories, how to make the most out of them and how to enjoy them the most. It's about hardware most of us like or even love to use in our spare time, so of course many people are passionate about them. "Just tools"? Give me a break!

This "cameras are just tools" speech is as like saying "horses are just a means of transport" in a horse lover forum. Heck, even cars aren't just "a means of transport" in a Porsche forum—they too are a hobby and a passion.

To pretend that the vast majority in this forum are cool, emotionless pros who are buying cameras and lenses like a cleaning professional is buying vacuum cleaner bags ("just tools") is clearly off the mark.

I agree with you that the focus by wire is terrible, but otherwise finding there are too many buttons on a X-E1 is really strange, if you have greasy goofy fingers it's your problem... If anything that's missing it's an iso dial, there you could have everyone happy, the "I only need iso/speed/aperture" crowd and the ones that also like to change to square format, or jpegs only, or use a timer from time to time.

By the way I find what you do interresting even if you have ugly tastes in terms of processing. Why it's interresting is because it provokes a reaction and immediatly takes most of us out of our "comfort zone". Which is not the case with endless pages of "explore" full of flower macros, lovely sunsets and staged portraits. Carebears will always say don't shoot this or that, this is rude, I don't want to see the thrash of this world but they are just missing out on the whole picture that this world is about. Or maybe they are afraid because it reflects a part of themselves they don't want to see

Mike here. Just started with Fuji a month or so ago from (long time) Canon shooter. Looking to learn how to use the camera more better - in many ways it is so different from shooting the Canons (some good, some bad, some just different). So far, my biggest frustrations seem to revolve around the AF system so I am looking forward to the 4.0 update next month.
