  1. Was in the Serengeti and the crater in dec. the lens did very well. my only recommendation is that you limit it to 380 mm - the only unsharp pics i have are between 380mm and 400 mm. From what i understand, kruger has open vehicles so bean bags may not be much help. Ask your safari provider/camps for pictures of the vehicles, and you should get an idea of what you'll need. Dust is a definite problem, so try and take 2 bodies - one with a shorter lens. I had a lioness walk right up to the vehicle and the 100-400 was just too long.
  2. Thanks. I’ve switched over to jpeg fine, and now have adequate space. Can’t try on windows now because I’m in the middle of nowhere, but will try later
  3. In Africa and stuck with a problem. Camera setting on Fine + Raw, but don’t have a RAW converter. Trying to import to MacBook. Pictures are visible but I can’t import. Can understand not importing Raw, but why are the jpegs not importing. My SD card is getting full!! Please help.
  4. Thanks very much, Doug!! HIM, I guess we both benefited from this.mThanks for your response, all the same.
  5. I used the XT2 with the included EF X8 flash, indoors, with reasonable amount of lighting in the room. Here are the settings; ISO 200 SS125 F/8 Here's what I noticed; The meter showed underexposure (-3) The LCD was very dark and I could barely make out the subject (people) The final image was well exposed. I then bumped up the ISO to 6400, and noticed the following; The meter still shows underexposure (-1.5) The LCD was bright and clear The final image was well exposed (only marginally brighter than the earlier one) Which leads me to infer (probably incorrectly), that while I do not need a high ISO to get the final image right, I do need a high ISO to be able to see (in the LCD) what I'm framing!? Does this make any sense? Is there something wrong with my thinking, or with my camera? If the flash can deliver a correct exposure at ISO 100, do I have to bump the ISO up to 6400 only because I need to see my subject while shooting? Any advice/clarification would be very welcome.
  6. Thanks. Will get the Sandisk cards as recommended.
  7. For what its's worth, I've decided on the 55-200 for my safari. I know it's not the longest or the best, but I really don't see myself using either the 50-140 or the 100-400 much after the trip, and can't justify the expense. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  8. Please be patient, because I really know very little about this!! Been trying the video on the XT2. I have a 16 GB Sandisk 80 MB/s HC1 card in it. I have the video setting on 4K 2160/29.97P (not even sure what this means). Here's what I'm facing; Before I start recording, it shows 19m48s, which I'm assuming refers to how much recording time I have. As soon as I press the shutter, it shows 10m0s. Could someone please explain why this change happens? Then after about 30 seconds, it stops recording and shows 'storing' on the LCD for about 4 secs, after which it says "write error". The 'write error' message disappears in a couple of secs, and I can start recording again. When I do start recording again, it repeats everything in steps 1 and 2 above Does this have something to do with the speed or capacity of the SD card? Moreover, if it has recorded 30 secs (in step 1 above), why does it show 10m0s the second time around (step 3 above)? Shouldn't it show 9m30s, which is the remaining recording time? Any help, in non-technical terms if possible, would be highly appreciated.
  9. I recently had an instance where my video suddenly stopped recording, and then started again after few secs. Apparently this is on account of the write speed of the SD card. What do you use, and what is the very best card that one can get for the XT2 that prevents all such bugs, video or photo?
  10. thanks drandyperry and SDBC, I've seriously considered this combination but had 2 concerns based on what i've read; a) the 50-140 is very noisy when focusing there is some drop off in IQ at the long end, which is where most of the shots are likely to be pity the 2x doesn't adapt to the 55-200....that would be a great combination for the occasional shoot
  11. That would gave been ideal CDBC, unfortunately Fuji is relatively unknown in India and there is no market for used lenses - specially expensive ones.
  12. Off to the Serengeti next month, and from what ive read the longest lens cant be long enough. Happy to get the 100-400 (unfortunately no rental possibilities in India, where i live), but mindful of the fact that I'll have little use for it after this trip. Any thoughts/suggestions/advice would be welcome.
  13. This is exactly how it would gave happened in my case. Now i know. Am off to Africa on safari next month, and really worried about something like this happening and not having access to the net to get help. Thank you Doug!
  14. Thanks Fm and dfaye, yes the AW shift was indeed the problem. Still trying to fugure out how it happened though!!?
  15. Used my Leuca lenses with the Fuji adapter on the XT2. Then bought the FX 23/2. Went back to Leica lens today and everything looks bright pink on the STD/Auto WB setting. Can someone please help?
