Greybeard reacted to Astigmatism in Advertisement
What is most ironic about this is that there must be many of us here that would be interested in significant ads about the products we're discussing. I would be. I normally hate ads, but relevant ones here would actually be somewhat welcome.
What are the recent new Fuji product announcements? Is anybody offering a sale? How about 3rd party products? I mean, I actually want to spend money, more or less.

I understand the site has a need to bring in revenue but the "Advertisement" and "Ad" replies to every forum post are useless and annoying - seeing a possible response to your post and instead being sent to Amazon is just irritating - perhaps the site could switch back to normal ads.

Greybeard reacted to Astigmatism in Fuji X aperture ring
Not even manual focus on the FX 14 mm f/2.8 R, with the clutch? You engage manual focus by sliding the focus ring rearward, which reveals a distance scale that you can read against classic DOF markings for different apertures. I have this lens, and just tried turning the focus ring with the lens not mounted on the camera. Looking into the rear of the lens, I see something shifting in re the aperture stop as seen through the glass. Not sure but I think this lens design might be a dozen years old. Sliding the focus ring forward disables it and makes the lens autofocus.
I'm not disagreeing, I'm just curious. I have wondered what's going on in there.

As Olaf says and a long press on the disp/back button is a quick way of showing all the current function assignments - you scroll down to the "Q" setting.

Flicker reduction possibly

Did you check that Flicker Reduction was off?

Greybeard got a reaction from Baddoch in Photo preview after photo is taken? only via the playback button?
OK there are two things here:
- you are seeing the File Storing message because you have Clarity set to non-zero - if you don't like the message change the clarity setting
- if you want to always see a preview of each image after its has been taken there is a menu setting:
Set-Up -> Screen Set-Up -> Image Disp.
You can set it to display the image for 0.5 sec, 1.5 sec or continuous until you dismiss the display

Its a little more than just the metadata - there is also a 13MP jpg stored in the RAF file - if the RAF file was to be updated I'd probably prefer another copy.

Why not use Image Capture? It would seem to have the same functionality as Finder for importing images and its built-in on your MacBook.

MacOS Image Capture utility might be your answer.
Its a software thing - the camera doesn't appear as a remote drive but you can transfer images to the MacBook.

Greybeard got a reaction from George_P in Understanding X Raw Studio
I’m not sure which compatibility issues you mean but I’d guess it’s because the processing is done by the camera - so you can’t do anything that wouldn’t have been possible when shooting images with that camera model. If the recipe calls for a film simulation or camera function that isn’t supported then the recipe isn’t going to work properly.
Maybe you can provide links to the posts or recipes that mention processor compatibility.

I believe these only apply when you are using the Fujifim M mount adapter

Interesting thoughts - but isn’t heif really an alternative to jpg rather than raw?

Greybeard got a reaction from jerryy in Firmware updates - Need a card reader?
Everyone makes the same mistake with the file naming - it’s a shame the camera can’t figure it out

Greybeard reacted to BJP in Firmware updates - Need a card reader?
Worked like a charm, once I went into my file folders and deleted all of the previous firmware downloads. The name of the file has to be exact, it turns out - so, for instance, "FWUP24.dat (2)" won't work. In case there is anyone who is doing this after me...
Thanks again, Jerryy and Greybeard. - b

You can't use a computer but you can use a phone or tablet:

Greybeard reacted to jerryy in Firmware updates - Need a card reader?
Because of time zone differences, @Greybeard might not be seeing your post until later.
You do not need to click on the file, doing that will not cause it to update your camera.
The basic idea is you put the sd card in the card reader which is connected to your computer, copy the file to the card (drag and drop it onto the card icon). put the card back into the camera, turn the camera on while holding down certain buttons. Doing that sequence will start the process going.
Here are specific instructions:
https://fujifilm-x.com/global/support/download/procedure-x-interchangeable-ver2/
And with that, @Greybeard should eventually be back, I believe there is some sort of holiday going in in his home country at the moment, so see if the instructions make sense.
p.s. Welcome to the forum.

Greybeard reacted to GiuseppeFuji in In camera RAW conversion
Greybeard, thanks for the feedback.
I actually had in mind the camera itself because that would allow me to leave the personal laptop at home when travelling for work (company laptop nowadays is blocking every installation) and do not have a pile of pictures to process later.
Having said that, X raw studio sounds also an interesting option too bad there isn't a tablet version, especially considering that the camera is doing all the hard work.
I am sorry and I do apologise if "casual" has been interpreted as a negative or even as an offence. It was totally not my intention. Infact I am a lighroom user my self and casual in my mind has a positive meaning, like being open to whatever comes along, flexible,....
