That's pretty clearly camera shake on your X-T2 shots, not noise. Happens to the best of us.

My experience with the X-T2 has been that it is very impressive in low light compared to my Canon 6D. My friend shoots using an X-Pro1, and the low light performance on his images seems very similar.

X-T2 RAW files can be a little harder to work with than your typical camera, certainly more finnicky than my 6D was, and it is easy to unintentionally introduce noise while sharpening, which I'm guessing is some of what is happening here. I can't speak to whether the X-T2's RAW files are more or less finicky than the X-T1's RAW files are. But even using Lightroom it is a great sensor in all light.

edit: One other note-- I believe I remember reading that the X-T2/X-Pro2 exposes brighter per ISO stop than past Fuji X-System cameras. This might lead to more noise for the same settings because you're not really shooting the same exposure. Try setting your exposure knob -1 stop, or if you're shooting fully manual, aim for a stop lower than middle. This could also lead one to shoot at a slower shutter speed to compensate, which might lead to slightly blurry (not noisy) photos.

And these are @ 6400 with no noise reduction, just bumped contrast.   I will upload a few from my xt2 later...The files form it do not look "alive" even at 800..

OK, a person then: Shot indoors with only a ceiling light fixture holding a couple CF bulbs -- ISO 12800. For an APS class camera I think this is pretty impressive. Excellent color and noise barely an issue.

The film simulations on the X-Pro2 and X-T2 are a bit different than previous models. The auto exposure algorithm is different too. Noise in low light is slightly worse than the X-Trans I/II cameras. However, the noise reduction in the JPEGs does appear to be better. If you think the shadows are too dark, then why not set SHADOWS to -1? Or try the Pro Neg S film simulation (I find Provia to be a bit contrasty/garish myself.)

Unfortunately, for now anyway, all the new tech is bundled with the 24MP sensor. Personally, I'd love it if Fuji made a 16MP version of the X-Trans III sensor for better low light performance (actually, if I could really get what I want it'd be Bayer), but I don't think that's going to happen.

As for the plastic look, I keep the NR set to -2 or -4 (it's too bad there's no way to set this based on ISO like on other camera brands). Or you may try NR 0 to 2 with the NOISE EFFECT enabled... This produces similar levels of detail but with a less objectionable appearance to the noise. (again, it sucks to have to fiddle with this every time you change ISO...)

Also, don't forget the relationship between ISO and resolution. You may just need to accept that at 6400 ISO your X-T2 is an 6-8MP camera and print/display your images at the appropriate size.

Sounds dull. Lay 'em out on a shooting range instead.

One thing to mention here and I see it time and time again people complaining about AF in video mode. I get that VLoggers and some types of videography need it, but in my opionion one of the best things you can do to make your video look smooth and as we see on TV is to turn AF off and shoot in manual mode.

Unless you are deliberately going for bokeh effect, set you aperture for a deep depth of field, ideally F8 or so, set it so that the DOF scale is infinity and back to say 3ft ( i use the 10-24mm a lot as a wide angle is your friend with video) and keep it manual, your shot will be in focus, will tolerate movement of the subject, and won't have the horrible artifacts introduced by AF hunting, which even the best AF systems cannot totally eliminate.

Its is no co-incidence that all the high end Cine lens are manual focus only, even Fuji's new releases, yes you can buy an add on that controls AF, but these often cost the same as the lens again for a reason.

Try what I suggest above and you will see that 9 x out of 10 you will get more pleasing results, the other nice thing about this, is it works with vintage lenses and will work on any system you use in the future as it is a general no brand specfic technique.

Upgrade the software, go out and shoot alot. You do very nice pics, just try and try yourself, beside any advice.

So I traded my 3-year-old X-T1, battery grip and plate towards a new X-T2. Holy smokes. There is a steep learning curve, no doubt. I thought I knew my old camera, but this is a whole new different beast. I am struggling mostly with the video function. I believe the lenses I tried so far are too old, but the AF in video is painfully slow and often non-existent... But then again, I doubt I will do much filming anyway.

If you have any suggestions for a new X-T2 owner, please let me know. A new camera is always nice, but there are growing pains for sure until everything is set up just right...

Ok thank you all for the replies, I think I will buy the Kit with the 18-55mm now and later maybe the 50-230mm or 50-140mm. Thanks again!

I'm surprised nobody has posted their thoughts on the X-T20...

I've had mine for a few days, so here goes. I'm coming from a X-T10... seemed like an obvious upgrade. The features that attracted me were better sensor, better AF, touch screen.

The cameras are physically almost identical... same size, shape and weight, just a couple of minor button changes. I like the form factor so that's great... and any accessories like grips and cases for the X-T10 will fit.

The user interface has evolved... instead of the numbered tabs in the menu system things are now organised into themed areas... image quality, AF, flash, movie, camera settings etc. There is also a "my menu" tab where you can add a screenful of items that you choose in the order you like. This is a good idea, but the settings you're allowed to put on there seem unnecessarily restricted (I couldn't add the "sound & flash" setting for example).

The viewfinder view is very similar... there are more AF points and more of them are phase detect, which is good. The zone mode areas are now all square (one was a rectangle before). There's a setting for the number of AF points... the default is "plenty" and you can go to "all you can eat"... you'd have to have a very small object or a very particular composition.

The LCD screens are the same, including the tilt mechanism, except the new one is touch. When you're shooting, the screen can be used to select an AF point (without focussing), to focus on a point, or to focus on a point and then shoot. You can select the operation on the screen itself by touching a small control area in the top right... it cycles through the options (or disables touch). Touching the screen has no effect when the screen is off... so your nose won't take a picture while you're at the viewfinder!

At playback time the touch screen let's you flick between images and zoom in and out with pinching. Double tap zooms to the focus point. There's no way to delete an image by touch, but maybe that helps avoid accidents. It's a small screen, so a bit fiddly compared to a phone. The menu system or the quick menu don't respond to touch... so maybe it's not as integrated as it could be.

One of the function buttons has gone, but the movie button is now a general purpose function button. You can assign these in the menu system or by a long press. The four direction buttons can be used for four functions or for directly moving the focus point. Both the control dials act as buttons too by pressing them... the rear one does "focus check" by default but you can assign it to something else if you like. The front one does very little by default and annoyingly you can't assign it (other way round on the X-T10... front is assignable and rear is fixed for focus check). That's perhaps the most annoying thing so far.

I haven't done any "proper" side by side tests... and I haven't explored the effect of the various image quality settings (sharpness, noise reduction etc), but I expect I will. The JPEGs seem to be around 11-12Mb and the raw files (now compressed!) are 25-30Mb. 24Mpixel gives lots of scope for cropping... here's a picture of the moon taken handheld with the 55-200 lens.

So, I can't believe I'm the only X-T20 user here... I'd like to hear your thoughts. And a question... does anyone know if it's safe to use the old batteries, or should I only use the W126S version?
